I was up a pound at WI yesterday - not too tragic but not the direction I want to be going in. At least I don't have to have an "official" WI until August. Next week things should be back to normal - I'm glad the holiday is over. We went to a wine tasting at our neighbor's last night and I ate lots of munchies and felt disgusting when I got home. Hopefully my spin class this morning worked some of it off. The weather here is hot and getting hotter, but no triple digits yet. I feel like the summer is going by quickly so I don't mind the heat, it will be snowing before we know it.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Hello quiet challenge buddies..... ;D
Quiet is OK as long as everyone is lurking around a little. Summertime is certainly busy time.
Some summer quotes for you, my friends...my fav time of year... have a good day!
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time." ~John Lubbock
"Summer afternoon - summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language." ~Henry James
"Then followed that beautiful season... Summer.... Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood." ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I'm with you Girliepurple! Summer is my favorite season, I love the beach, sand & sun. My husband gave me the screen name "shoregirl", he said if there is a "shore" near by, he can be "sure" to find me there! The JERSEY SHORE ROCKS! Anyway, I am lurking around here too. I need to buckle down and get serious again. I wish everyone would share some great summer recipes! ;D

Hi all-
Hope everyone is doing well and peeking in from time to time. I have been hanging in there, trying to get used to the Lifetime thing. Tonight I had a family party with pizza and I had two pieces and a piece of cake and I feel okay with my choice! I know what I weighed today so I'm not going to WI tomorrow but I will go to the meeting. I had to do some positive self talk to myself that pizza and cake every so often is part of life and it's okay to have it once in awhile. Pizza is still a really tough situation, tougher for me than cake. They were both really good though!
This weekend we have a 40th birthday party downtown where they are serving empanadas and quesadillas and chips and salsa. My DH and I have opted to go out to dinner beforehand rather than be starving and stcuk with nothing available but fried food. My DS is sleeping out Saturday night so my DH and I may take our bikes downtown and bike along the lakefront.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
-Beth
PS: Shoregirl - where are you from in NJ? I grew up in Old Bridge and spent many a summer at the Jersey Shore! Had a house in Manasquan 2 years in a row.

Yay Jersey shore!! 15 days until my week's vacation at Pt. Pleasant, we rented a cottage down there, cannot wait. Not to rush my summer or anything.... ;D I would never rush my summer.
I lost .4 at WI last night and I will certainly be happy about it. Even though I'm Lifetime I do like to WI each week to see the number. I must say although I am not the weight I want to be, I am pretty close and have managed to maintain within 5 lbs. of goal for year, so I have decided to add something to this summer challenge --give myself a break! Not let up on myself, just be a little more forgiving. Treat myself like I do the members I talk to, hello.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hi Chicagobeth!
I grew up in Hawthorn, NJ. It's near Ridgewood, Glen Rock, not too far from Paramus, I live in VA now. We always spent summers at Seaside Heights! Now, I still go back with my husband and kids. Love Lavellette, Ortley & Normandy. My DH prefers Pt. Pleasant but the kids love the boardwalk in Seaside. We are going up for a long weekend next week to visit friends in Lavellette. The best pizza anywhere~the boardwalk is not core friendly! ;D

Just piping in to say hello. Nothing exciting to report AT ALL. I am back on track today after what seems like a few days of being out of control. I will wait until Wednesday to step on the scale and see what the damage is. I went spinning today and hope to go Wednesday as well, and tomorrow I'll do the elliptical and maybe a strength and tone class. My Dad is coming on Thursday for a few days so I'm looking forward to that.
Dinner tonight: turkey breast, corn on the cob, tomato/basil salad.
Hope everyone is hanging in there - it is pretty subdued at Kippy's these days.

Hi Girliepurple!
I live in Stafford, VA it's about 45 minutes south of DC or 20 minutes north of Fredricksburg. I'm heading to the Jersey shore (Lavellette) Friday night just for a few days. I go back several times through out the summer. I am really struggling with core right now. I am not eating exactly core but I am very active! Summer is hard for me, I don't eat a lot, but what I do eat is not good. (ice cream, pizza, pork roll!) These are summer foods to me, the rest of the year I could care less about them. So far so good today; Breakfast: mutigrain cheerios (not exactly core, but not too bad either) FF milk & a banana. I should start a journal for everyones entertainment!

Hi, summer Kippy friends!! Here is a link to a calculator that gives you your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). health.discovery.com/tools/calculators/basal/basal.htmlVery cool - I got it from Hungry Girl, I get her e-mails every day. This is what she says: This handy dandy tool will tell you how many calories your body would burn if you stayed in bed all day and did absolutely nothing (sounds like a fun day to me). There's a formula that takes into account your height, weight, age and gender -- and based on those things, it tells you how many calories your body burns per day. This is your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). Remember, if you do more activity than just lying around all day (which you probably do!), your body requires additional calories to fuel those activities. So, just the calories from your BMR wouldn't be enough to sustain you on a daily basis. In other words, don’t use your BMR as the total number of calories you need to eat in a day. Use that info as a baseline from which to add calories for activity. If you want to know more about this topic, consult a doctor or nutrition professional. FYI -- they say depriving your body of food can actually slow down your BMR (a very BAD thing!), and doing lots of cardio can actually increase it (which rocks!). Definitely forward this email to everyone you know, because there's probably not a person on the planet who isn't interested in finding out this magic number.Very interesting and good to know! Have a good day!

My dear Kippy friends... I have not fallen off the face of the earth, although it feels like I've crawled into a cave and can't get out. Well probably not that dramatic. The past week I have been off work, with problems with my neck and shoulder again. Just like I had at Christmas time, however this time I ended up in Emergency with the pain. I had a mri yesterday and am waiting to hear the results. I'm guessing it is a bulged or herniated disk, won't be surprised if I end up in surgery. So I can't lift anything over 5lbs, or over my head, or unload trucks, or do any of the things I do at work. I'm on prednisone, valium, and loratab. Pretty powerful drugs for someone who only takes an occasional ibuprophin. I'm bored and grumpy and prednisone makes me want to eat all the time. The up side is that my family and boss have been wonderful and understanding and compasionate. And I feel bad for being such a grump. The highlight of my day yesterday was to re-organize my recipe box. Not much more to report, I'll try to check in when I can type for a longer period of time. Take care everyone, I think of you all often Katie

Hi, Katie!!! I'm so sorry to hear about your neck and shoulder problems and I hope they are solved soon. Hope you don't require surgery but if you do that it's very successful so that you are back to your old self again! Take care and don't worry about being grouchy LOL it doesn't sound like your situation is a lot of fun. Keep us posted. Hope everyone else is doing good today and that you have a nice weekend!

I went to WI and I was down .4 from my last WI which I ws surprised by, mostly because my scale at home said I was up 1.2! Whatever, I'll take it. I feel like I had an epiphany this week and I needed to slap myself. I've worked way to hard to have the scale go up!
My Dad is in town and we have a fun weekend planned, the weather is beautiful. Hope everyone has a good one.

Hiya Gang,
I've been travelling so much this summer that I've been a rare contributor, not that I haven't lurked regularly! My eating has spanned the globe from core to not-core, but I have done a surprisingly great job of keeping the walking/running thing going... in NY, New England, Vancouver and home...no breaks. THAT is a nsv for me as travel usually puts all my routines into a tailspin.
I'm in the Midwest for just 6 more days then back east again for 10. I'm very very busy this week with rehearsals so if yesterday is any indication, I may be making some good choices eating wise...i bought some good stuff on the weekend to have on hand...fresh greens, fruit from the farmers market.
So sorry about your neck Katie... that really is a drag. Hang in there!
Seems like we're all in a summer mode!
Virtual hugs to you all!
