the President's Challenge for April, 2006! What is the Presidential Challenge? It's a free, easy-to-join opportunity to challenge yourself to greater fitness. And, in case you're concerned, it's completely nonpolitical (except that our society as a whole benefits when we get healthier). All Core folk are welcome (newcomers, returning Challengers, beginning exercisers, fitness buffs, and all others) to join us to motivate and inspire one another to better fitness. The Challenge works in a few ways: 1) it gives us each individually a way to record and monitor our progress with our personal fitness regimens; 2) we can each set a personal goal or challenge (number of points, say, or "earn my X award by such and such date") and then let each other know how we've done; and 3) we can compare our points totals with one another. You'll see this last feature on the President's site (I think it's called "compare with others"). You enter the Hard Core Challengers in the check box, and the date parameters you want to compare (for example, 1/1 to 1/31/06), and it will tell you what percentile your points total places you in. If you want to be really competititve, you can aim to be in the 80th or higher percentile of total points accumulated. But, if you don't care to compete with others (if you don't find that motivating, for instance), you don't ever even have to look at this. You can use this thread as a place to chat, report your individual progress, etc. We strive to be supportive, motivating, encouraging and informative. I think it was Sulee who dubbed us the PreChas, as in Core preachers and President's Challenge abbreviated. So welcome, new and returning PreChas! Post your personal goal for the month, and let's keep moving and "reporting to the President!" Here are the instructions to participate: YOU'RE INVITED TO JOIN THE PRESIDENT'S CHALLENGE HippoMommy has started a group to take the President's Challenge together: Hard Core-ner Challengers. Welcome, everyone!
My goal for this month is to get 9,000 points. I want to lose another 2 lbs or so this month, and although this isn't a weight loss challenge, I know that the activity will help to get me there.
I also intend to earn at least 23 APs per week, working up to 28 most weeks.
My ankle is still healing from that sprain, and when I can, hopefully this month, I'll be getting back to spinning, so that is another goal for the month.

Shaddox, if you're doing points, you can expect to earn about 300 pts for an hour of moderate intensity cardio work. More like 500 for an hour of high intensity cardio. Your goal will really depend on how active you are now, and how active you want to try to be. What is your fitness schedule like right now?
And Stillsearching, the confusion is because the President's Challenge points are not the same as WW Activity Points. The President's site gives points (if you're in the Presidential Challengers area, as opposed to the Active Lifestyle part). The President's points seem to roughly correspond to calories burned, but only very roughly -- don't count on these totals being precise. So if you're aiming to use APs in the challenge, that's okay. If you're making up a ticker, use APs, not PreCha points. . . .

Hippomommy... I go to Curves 6 times a week and now that the weather is starting to get nice here in Maryland I plan to walk and ride my bike as much as possible. I will keep entering my info at the Presidents Challenge site, do I need to enter something here or just post periodically? Wasnt sure if the group got some kind of totals from the Pres. Chall. site since we are reg. as a group.
