Hey Ema - can you share your squash kugel recipe? It sounds like a good one.
Sounds like everyone had a decent weekend. We did as well. I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week already! We are traveling to NJ a week from tomorrow but my stepmother (battling cancer) has been in the hospital for the last 10 days or so and I'm not sure what next week will bring. In any case, we will hopefully all be together and this year it definitely will not be all about the food. As you said Ema, health issues are very stressful but they do put things in perspective.
Here's to a successful week for everyone!!
-Beth

I'll try to post the squash kugel recipe in the side dish section of the recipes and post a link to that post here.
Happily, discovered two coworkers, both of whom I find pleasant, though I don't know either very well, have just started walking at noontime. I joined them yesterday. One only had 30 minutes to spare and peeled off early, but the other one and I walked for 50 minutes. It was great to take a break midday and get outside, despite mediocre late fall overcast damp dreary (do you get the picture?) weather. I had to stay late for a mandatory training session (that I thought I had already attended, but was mistaken) from 6-8 PM, when I usually finish work between 4-5 PM. So I had no reason NOT to take a midday break. It was so nice, I think I'm going to try to join them every Monday and the Tuesday's when I work (twice a month, not today). Generally I work 3 days a week, and exercise 3 of the 4 other days in the week. This gives me either (1) more flexibility with what I do on my non-work days or (2) an extra exercise session during each week. Either way, it's good!

Good for you Ema, finding extra exercise that you enjoy. And you get to know these co-workers better. Beth, my continued prayers for your family. You are so right, health issues, job issues, family issues, do put things into perspective. I am feeling a bit better. We at least have a plan, that DH will seek out a second job, and if needed I will also. We know how to work, we know how to pinch pennies. It's not what we want to do at 53 & 46, but we will do what we need to. As I've said, I'm not a stress eater so that at least helps.
With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, I'm concentrating on the day I'll spend with family, and the things I truly am thankful for. Everything else?....that will take care of itself. Have a great day Katie

Hello!
I'm back! The 3-Day walk was this past weekend and it was amazing! So much love and support. There were 4,500 walkers and we raised more than $11 MILLION for breast cancer research!!! I will share photos very soon.
Now that I'm back in the real world, it's time to focus on my weight again. I didn't WI last Friday because it was the first day of the walk and I'd carbed up the night before, so it wouldn't be accurate (excuses, excuses). I was horrified by how I looked in a lot of the photos from this weekend. On Saturday, I'm going to my first ever WW meeting (right now, I'm an online-only member).
Ema – I hope your kids are feeling better.
Sulee – I’ve been on the eat-whatever-I-want diet for the last week!

I lost 2 pounds this week! I stuck with the exercise, ate CORE and I tried a new dish (tofu with ww noodles and vegies).
This challenge helps. I thought of myself "reporting" to the challenge and made great choices.

Susie here for my Week #1 Check In. I weighed in Monday and had a 1.6 pound weight loss! I was able to stick to Core and count flex points (used 15 for the entire week). Attended 2 WW meetings last week ( Monday and Thursday ) Exercised 6 days last week. Ate in a restaurant 3 times and had no trouble at all finding Core foods to eat. Felt completely satisfied and content. Mailed my resume to WW to become a leader!

I feel good, am eating better and I'm ready for the challenge of this weekend and next week/weekend ... Thanksgiving is only 1 day and I will make the best choices, and the other days too! Hey guys! I was so busy updating my journal that I forgot to post over here! But in my few days back to complete core (you know, not "farting around core"), I have noticed some things about what keeps me full and what doesn't. Wondering if anyone else has to follow similar patterns?
1. For breakfast I need to have protein. If I have some good high fiber carbs with it too, like cream of wheat, I get more of an energy boost, but for staying full it is most important that I get good protein. Otherwise I'm ravenous by 10. 2. For lunch, protein doesn't really do it for me. I need to have some carbs. For the longest time I did salads with chicken or tuna in them, and even if there were huge I'd be starving a couple of hours later. Now if I have whole wheat bread, oatmeal, etc... I'm fine. 3. For dinner, it has to be a combo. I'm not satisfied with either one on its own.
Is this weird? If I switch any of these up, I don't seem to be satisfied, regardless of amount. And I'm kind of curious as to why. On the other hand, I love that I figured it out! Because I have been able to maintain a much more even keel of satiety. Any insight?

Hi all I'm delighted to report that I removed my 5.4 pounds of vacation weight gain, all in one week! I worked hard this week - the key was journaling faithfully. I also got enough veggies in on all but 2 day - need to do better.
Cris, I find that I have to have protein & carbs at every meal. I can get away without protein at breakfast if I have a busy morning, but it helps to add 1-2 Tbsp of cottage cheese to my oatmeal. If I miss either the carbs or the protein at lunch or dinner, I'm famished 3 hours later.

Wow Vita, Congratulations. Hard work does pay off. Cris, I have a combo every meal too. I started just having cereal and fruit for breakfast and was not satisfied, now I have cottage cheese or and egg and that seems to help. I still get pretty hungry by 11:00, but usually can hold off till lunch time 1:00, if I drink some water. I also was having a salad for lunch, but now I'm having soup along with fruit and baby carrots, and that seems to hold my till supper time around 7:00. That's what is so great about this plan. Each person can taylor it to fit their body and lifetstyle. Just like a well made suit. Wi is tonight and then I go back to work. We are having an evening Holiday open house, and I get to work. Also I'm working Saturday, as our highschool football team is playing for the state championship. I'll work so the highschool girls can go to the game. Have a great day Katie

Hi hi everyone!
I've been buried in course work and have missed you all terribly. Apparently, I've missed exercising too because I gained 2.6 lbs this week!
It's a message to rededicate myself to the path, that's all.
Looks like we have some new folks--or just people I don't know. In any case, welcome!
Grats everyone on their fabulous progress!

Susie, lcd and Vita - WOW! A big WOWEE for Vita! Pretty amazing.
Night - I've missed you! Sorry you are so busy and stressed.
Cris - interesting question you pose. I probably have eggs for breakfast 2-3 times a week but I don't find it curbs my hunger for a mid-morning snack anymore than when I have yogurt, cereal or oatmeal with fruit. Regardless, I am usually pretty hungry by 11:00 and need to have an apple or something. For lunch I definitely need protein and usually don't have a carb with lunch. However, I usually have oatmeal or cereal (whichever I didn't have for breakfast) at around 3:30-4:00 and that holds me off until dinner at 7:00. Dinner tends to be my biggest meal with a protein, carb and veggie. In the evening I usually have SF/FF pudding or hot chocolate. If I eat early like 6:00 I will sometimes make a baked apple for an evening snack.
I'm feeling kind of blah this week, anxious I guess about next week. I donated blood today and it helped me remember all I am thankful for. I'll check in after WI tomorrow.

Night, this is just a small detour in this journey, and I know you'll get back to the right path quickly. Great to hear from you, hopefully things will balance out soon for you. Here's your best advise back to you: take time to be good to yourself. I'm down 2lbs. I guess stress might be good for something? lol Here's to a great weekend everyone Katie
