I've had a busy week and have two sick kids (a 6 year old asthmatic with pneumonia--Yikes! and a 2.5 year old with strep) and have still managed to get in some exercise each day (15K steps on my pedometer yesterday) and not come home and eaten everything in the house. I'm really hoping that this is going to make for a good result on the scale and finally the reversal of this long ugly uptick in my weight for the last 6-8 months. Even thinking of joining a gym.
I made a good chicken recipe from Cooking Light magazine's website. I'm going to post it in the appropriate recipe section. It was quick to make the night you're eating it, but also easy to make ahead and fridge or freeze and reheat.

Hi, Susie! Hi, Vita! Hi, everyone else! Beth, I hope you enjoyed your margarita or should that be plural? ;D I'm glad this challenge is so long....not starting off too good, Beth my latest stats are up 1 lb. ... ... but I know where it came from, have been sick for a week so no APs, some bad food choices....OK I'm better now so I will continue onward and downward... yeah I gotta get back on the wagon too, prepare some Core foods to freeze, basically get back to basics and choose the right food!!

Ema - that's amazing that you were able to make some time for yourself with such a stressful week! I have just one kid and it can be so draining when he is sick, I can only imagine two at the same time.
Girlie - sorry about your gain but glad to hear you're feeling better.
Vita - glad you're joining us!!
I hope everyone is okay with me posting the goals on Fridays. I've been keeping track on my little notepad of what everyone is doing!
I did NOT have a margarita last night. They were goopy looking and just kind of unappetizing. I had chicken and a baked potato w/ a little sour cream. Oh, and a few bites of chocolate cake. But I had 6 AP's from spinning yesterday so hopefully I didn't do too much damage. And luckily, there weren't plates of fried appetizers sitting on the table!!
Have a good one!
-Beth

Yesterday I came awfully close to falling off the wagon . . . yet again. I had a run-in with chips, cookies, and chocolate at school when I was alone and writing reports. I KNOW that trigger -- gets me every time, even when I think I'm prepared. But I'm proud of myself -- I journaled it all the best I could (used up all the rest of my WPAs). This morning I earned three APs at the gym, and I avoided bowls of candy sitting right in front of me all day long at a training session I attended. If I can get through tomorrow with using only APs, I can finally have an entire week of being on program.

Good job Coco, and Ema. I hope the kids are feeling better soon and that the crud doesn't spread to the other members of your family. Friday postings are great Beth. I appreciate your didication. I'm up a very deserved 1.8lbs. I know exactly what the problems are and am starting fresh today. Welcome Vita, Cris, and Lynn. This is a good time to be involved in a challenge. We all need the support through the Holidays and the more the merrier. I'm quite thankful that my gain wasn't more and I'm really needing to get back to basics. Funny how my whole body reacts to an off plan week or two. My skin is breaking out again, my back hurts more, I just have an all over feeling of blech. But one ore two meals back on plan and all those things start to improve. It really is pretty amazing. My goals for this week are to get in ALL my water and watch WPA closely. Have a great weekend everyone HIHO Katie

Glad to be back in a challenge. I need it; I've gained 8 pounds in the last 3 weeks! Most of that's vacation weight, and the food (Puerto Vallarta) was WELL worth it. I hope the bulk of it will drop back off by Thanksgiving.
Sounds like everyone is battling trigger foods. Thankfully, I feel strong this week. Made a batch of Core minestrone last night, and boiled some eggs for salads & quick snacks. I find that when I'm well-prepared going into the weekend, I have a much better week.
We're supposed to have near record-high temps today & tomorrow here in NC - 77 or 78. Bike time!

i gained... ALOT... 2.4... why? because i've been following the sulee-can-eat-whatever-she-wants-because-she's-absurdly-over-committed-and-crabby diet! including a fawncy dinner last night with lots of wine and buttery foods
we'll the week of utter madness is almost over: i'm back to just my regular level of over-commitment and i'm back to core. at least right now i'm having my core breakfast of oatmeal and blueberries. Starting the day on track DOES help.
Beth, if it's possible, may i change my goal to add, after the word 'judgemental', the words "toward myself" That is absolutely what i mean when i say this, i am my own worst enemy and feel utterly judgement-free of anyone else's process in this hard weight loss path. Thanks!!
here's to more consciousness, more vegetables, more exercise and WAY less beating myself up!
have a great weekend, gang!

I am glad I am not alone in the weight gain category this week - but I actually had a good week with spinning 3 times and stayed within WPA and Ap's. However, I did have a lot of salty food this week, including last night a big stir fry out for DH's B-day. Not sure a 2.2 lb. gain was deserved but whatever it is, it is. There's always room for improvement! This week I will try and keep the salt level down, increase water and try to increase veggies also. I hope once again to go spinning on Saturday, Tuesday 7 Wednesday and yoga on Thursday. Onward and downward everyone!
In good news, I bought a Size 6 pair of pants today for the first time!
Here comes the goals...

Beth, congratulations on those size sixes!
I would have made a whole week on program if I had not gone out to dinner with hubby last night. Our 11-year-old was at a slumber party and we decided to splurge with our free time. Yes, I could have made better choices, but I'm okay with my decision.
Sooo . . . no loss this week; I stayed the same. But the water drinking and exercise, and the feeling of being in control of my food, is pretty good.

I had a great week on program and even exercised and logged over 10K steps 5/6 days that I wore my pedometer, and the scale didn't notice! How dare it! I'm convinced it will catch up with me next week, and I'm not changing a thing at this point.
Found a recipe for my pear-cranberry crisp with a much more reasonable topping that came out great. Also made my favorite squash kugel (something between a pudding and a souffle that is traditional Jewish fare). Overate a bit at dinner last night on the chicken, but wound up without lunch and got in 1.9 miles in 33 minutes, so that was a good walk/run. Today was very appropriate eating, but no activity. Couldn't get my younger kids out of the house to synagogue this morning and spent the afternoon napping to make up for the insomnia that kept me up after 3 AM this morning.
Now about to have a rare night out (with a female friend) while DH stays home with the kids. Then tomorrow will be out again at a friend's wedding, that DH is passing on and he'll be staying home with the kids. My goals are to eat reasonably and dance a lot! My friend is marrying for the first time at 48. It promises to be a very festive wedding with very lively dancing.

Ema, I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating. Best wishes to your friend.
I've had a pretty good weekend. I couldn't find my usual Bob's red mill steel cut oats at my regular grocery. I tried a couple other stores and couldn't find it there either, so I got a bag of 7 grain cereal. I like it. There is hard and soft wheat, oats, barley, spelt, rye, and triticale. I have no idea what triticale is, but it's in there. I made a big batch cooked with an apple and cinnamon. I also made Sulee's chai tea. Again couldn't find cardamom pods, but used ground. Dh and DS even liked it. I shared on my journal that Dh's company is in financial trouble and he may be out of a job by the first of the year. We are cutting back on unnecessary purchases. When I got groceries, I didn't buy any junk. Amazing how when you don't buy it you can't eat it. lol This is a very stressful time for us. We were both a bit testy over the weekend. It's so hard not knowing. This is when my faith has to kick in and take over. I KNOW we'll be ok, it's just letting go of my worries.... Katie

Sorry about all the stress Kate. I think the only thing that weighs on us more than worries about losing a job and the related money stress is serious health issues.
On a more mundane note, I love 7 grain hot cereal. I buy some brand that comes in a cardboard cylinder (like a traditional oatmeal container) but has the same ingredients. I kept meaning to google "tricitale" and see what kind of grain plant it was. I had never heard of it either. I've tried cream of rye, which is OK. A cereal called "Rice and Shine" which is a hot rice cereal, consistency of cream of wheat but slightly different taste, and also Quinoa flakes hot cereal. The 7 grain, hot wheat and steel cut oats are by far my favorites.
My older 3 sons are all wearing pedometers these days. I got inexpensive ones at Target on Friday for them. They are 9.5, 8 and 6. It's interesting to see how it's motivating them to be more active. You're never too young for these lessons.
