Big hugs to you, Cynthia...I'm so sorry for your loss. You were there for your friend, she is at peace now and just fine...you will be too. Be gentle on yourself.
Kathy - I live alone too and when I prepare multiple portions, I pack them up and put in freezer immediately...only leaving out the one I am going to eat! I don't snack so I can't help you there....I know you get in your 8 GHG and everyone knows you exercise!...it is hard to watch those portions and I'm just like you when eating out...
Happy New Year to All !!

Hi all, I've just spent the past few minutes catching up with everyone. Cynthia, I'm so sorry for your loss. Try to focus on the special memories, and the joy that this friend added to your life. You were such a strenght for her and I am sure you will be for her family also. I didn't get to go to my meeting last night. The highschool girl that was supposed to come to work so I could leave didn't show up, so I had to stay to close. Oh well, missing one week won't derail me too far. DD had a fantastic wi and that always motivates me. My neck and upper back are getting better slowly. I actually spent one whole night in my own bed, first time in over 2 weeks. However last night I was back up at 2:00a.m. and spent the rest of the night in the recliner. I go back to the Chiro, Saturday for another adjustment. We are having dinner with friends tonight at their home and then have no plans for NYE. Sometimes it's not bad being married to a non-social person. lol Fewer food temptations that way. I like the idea of a get back to goal challenge, but am concerned that maybe it will stop some from joining if they are farther from goal. Just a thought to throw out there. Happy New year everyone. Katie

I did WI today in Florida and MIRACULOUSLY I stayed the same. The next week still holds a lot of temptations - not the least of which is BAKED CHEETOES waiting for me in Wisconsin this weekend where we are staying with friends.
I also am very big into freezing portions. I love to have something hot for lunch in the winter, sometimes salads are just too chilly for me! Plus many times my DH isn't interested in what I've made or works late or whatever so it's great to have something to pull out of the refrigerator. A great thing to make that ensures leftovers is Core lasagna, it also freezes really well.
Kate - I agree about the challenge. Maybe the challenege should be to get to your own goal, whether that means losing 5 pounds or exercising a few times a week or getting to WW goal.
We leave Florida tomorrow and I won't be checking in until after the New Year. I think I met many of my challenge goals this time around and I did see 130 although I'm at 131 right now. Best wishes to all of you here for a happy and HEALTHY New Year. I'm so glad you have been a part of my 2006!

LOL at "baked cheetos in Wisconsin"...as if Wisconsin has been stockpiling them in order to increase national cravings, and then lures innocent visitors to their caloric doom. (Wisconsin's my home state, so I get to make fun of Wisconsinites.)
I don't think we should have a "get to goal" challenge. But those of us who are interested can keep ourselves motivated with special goals within a broader challenge.
And now for a confession. I HATE freezing things. I cook my little heart out, and put cute little bags and containers of stuff in the freezer. I feel so proud. Then I promptly forget about it all.
I think it's because I don't like defrosting stuff, and I don't like heating up frozen leftovers. When I think about "what's for dinner?" the last thing I want to do is root through all the tupperware in the freezer, and contemplate which thing sounds the least yucky to microwave and shovel down.
So I make something new, and maybe (after overeating, of course), I even freeze some of that. Consequently, my freezer is always a cemetery for unrecognizable hunks of freezer-burned food. What's wrong with me? Is there a system that I never learned in home ec? Do I need to join Leftovers Anonymous?

haha!! "Leftovers Anonymous"!!! I too am allergic to freezing stuff! Not allergic to frozen fruits and veggies, btw, i always keep bags and bags of berries and cherries for oatmeal and snackis, and even throw bananas in the freezer for smoothies but will never make a casserole for later contemplation! So in addition to tending to overeat my creations, i also tend the eat the same thing day after day after day, ad nauseum, till it's gone.
Very unimpressed by my performance so far since re-joining ww on Tuesday. I feel that the first weigh is may be a sad and sobering experience. I'm not giving up tho' dag nabbit!! I see everyone's persistence and it really does help me see the possibilities.

Vita, you are so funny. The bit about the leftovers reminded me of myself, as well -- I freeze things to take for lunch, but for some reason I NEVER label them. So I bring these anonymous containers, stick them into the microwave at work, and am surprised. People always say, "Ooh, that smells good. What is it?" And I am usually forced to say, "I'm not really sure, but I think it's ......."
Gotta start labeling, and I also need to think of some clever names to make my leftovers sound more appealing!

Happy New Year everyone,
Well I agree to several things: I am completely not motivated to eat leftovers. A source of stress in my marrage... I think that having folks set their own goals has worked in the pass but as is often true there are thread of thought that run through each individual challenge. We can definitely focus on cooking, planning and goddess forbid eating leftovers.
My summary for this challenge. Well not too bad. I think I ended about where I started and I will give myself credit for maintaining during a stressful few months. I also think I discovered a few really important things about how to eat and not be so fixated on food with my no sugar, no snacking, no seconds rule...
I am all about stress reduction for this next challenge. Focusing on realistic goals and trying to let myself relax and enjoy my healthy body and heart...
Thank you all for your support around my friend's passing. It means a lot to me to have such a great and supportive on-line community.
Wishing you all a healthy and stress free 2007. Cynthia
