Well, I guess I have begun the final stages. I ran a full 30 minutes today and my pedometer said it was exactly three miles. It was perfect weather for running and it felt great! I can't wait to do it again.

Way to go, NikkiT! I did wk 3 day 2 today, and it went well. The breathing went a little better today. Maybe I should get some music to listen to. I've been watching the news (on the treadmill), bit maybe music would be better. What do most of you use, a CD player, mp3 player (not even sure what they are), or a tape player? Thanks, Marica

I couldn't run without music - especially on a treadmill. TV doesn't really hold my interest enough, but I can get lost in music. But everyone's different. I have a mini iPod, which is an MP3 player. If you don't know what one is, you might do better with something a little more simple. CD players tend to skip when you run, unless you get a really good sports one. If you have a ledge on the treadmill to rest it on, it might be okay. I used to use a cassette walkman years ago that I still use for work sometimes. I love my iPod, though.

Where do you buy an Ipod and about how much do they cost? I'm beginning to think that music might really help! Thanks, Marcia

Well, you can buy any kind of mp3 player, really, in an electronics store such as Circuit City or Best Buy or even Wal-Mart or Target. I think they carry iPods too. I have had regular "generic" mp3 players, but I am really much happier with my mini iPod. It holds 1000 songs and has an armband so it doesn't really get in the way when I run. There's the regular iPod that holds like 10,000 songs also, and now they have a new one called the iPod Shuffle that's really tiny - it's the size of a pack of gum and you can wear it around your neck - and I think it holds 240 songs. You would need to download music onto your hard drive in order to put it on a mp3 player. You could either download from the Internet or you could take songs off CDs you already own. Here's the iPod website if you want to read more. www.apple.com/ipod/It might be a good idea to maybe start another thread about mp3 players and see if anyone wants to add their two cents.

Nikki, Congratulations on your 30-minute, three-mile run! WOW!
I "ran" outside today and it does make a difference. It was a beautiful, sunny, absurdly warm day here. I did my week 3, day 3 on the path outside my house, and did not turn around until about ten minutes after I had finished. On the way home, I saw three deer grazing on a hill, then a little later, three wild turkeys trying to cross the street!
All in all, I was out for about an hour (and was amazed at how much further I could go with just that little bit of running! Very motivating!)
Coco
P.S. Regarding the iPod conversation, my son recently bought himself one and the minis are $250; I saw the new "shuffle" one advertised for $99 but it shuffles the songs for you (it doesn't have a screen). I'd like one, too.

Thanks for the ipod info, Coco and Nikki. Running outside does sound appealing but it's still too cold here. Whe I ran with the Y program 2 years ago, it was outside, and I really enjoyed it! Marcia

I finished week 3 today. It is getting easier. This is the point where I quit last time I tried Couch to 5k.
Week 4 looks like a challenge; it may take me two weeks to complete.

Rebe, I'm right there with you! I finished Week 3 today, too. This week, running outside a couple of times really helped me; I hope the weather holds out next week as well. I'm excited for Week 4. Each week we get stronger!

Rebe and Coco. I just finished week 3 today too. I'm still struggling abit with the 3 minute runs; I haven't checked to see what is coming up for next week. I tried listening to some music on my sports radio today, and that helped a little. Hard to use a radio though, because some of the songs are fast and some slow. Maybe I'll look into the mp3 player. Marcia and Rebe, It does look like Week 4 will be challenging -- running for 5 minutes, and the longest walk in between is 2.5 minutes. Just remember that we CAN take longer or personalize it as needed. I am going to try not to run at all today and focus on weight training, then do Week 4, Day 1 tomorrow when I can run outside. I think that will be more inspiring.
Does anyone else do the Couch to 5K program more than 3x/week? I know we are only supposed to do it 3 times, with a day of rest in between, but other forms of cardio just aren't as much fun for me. I feel so good after I complete this workout, and it doesn't take long.

Also, I was thinking that I could slow down to 4.5 mph on those 5 minute runs. Whatever works.... I'm still doing the huffing and puffing breathing at times, and I want to get that under control! Marcia

Since doing the program I have been running every other day, pretty much. Sometimes it's like four days a week. But I wouldn't really recommend doing it on two consecutive days -- you need to give your body a chance to rest.

Okay, I did Week 4, Day 2. I am getting a cold and today was tough; heck, those 5 minute runs are very tough. Today I "cheated" a little bit and made sure part of my 5 minute runs were downhill! Since I'm not feeling so well this week, and don't feel like I'm giving it my all, I'll probably repeat the same workouts next week, when I hope I'll be healthier!
How are all the rest of you 5k-ers doing?

Well, today I finally got through week 4, day 1. I tried on Monday and my knee hurt the minute I started jogging. I have been able to keep up my usual routine: strength training, treadmill for walking and climbing, and stationary bike, but jogging just wasn't going to happen. Today it felt much better and I got through it.
Week 4 may take me a while, but I am determined.
