Great going, ladies! I actually ran outside yesterday in single-digit windchill weather. Now it's snowing so if I plan to run probably for the next week I'll have to go to the gym.

I did week 1 day 3 on Friday and am planning on starting on week 2 tomorrow. I'll do it at the gym on the treadmill, it's too cold and icy outside! Marcia

I've been stalled at week 7 for about a month now. I think I will try to step it up to week 8 today at the gym. I signed up for the challenge here and I've got to get my tushy moving. ;D

Hello! I began C25K in December. I repeated week 3 for 3 weeks because it was right around Christmas and I just didn't feel comfortable to move on. But, I am now up to Week 6. I completed Day 1 yesterday and will be doing Day 2 tomorrow. Before starting C25K, the only times I ever ran was when I was about to miss a plane or if someone was chasing me So, I was a total beginner at running. I've been on a weight plateau for 5 months now and am hoping that the added intensity of running will help me get off of it. No change so far, but I'm still hopeful! ;D I do the workouts at the gym on the treadmill for now. When I complete C25K, I plan to start running around my town. There is a 5K run/walk scheduled for early April in town that I plan to run in....my very first! I am amazed everytime that I finish a workout...I never, ever, in my life thought that I'd be running...or that I'd be enjoying it!! Anyway, I'd love to join your challenge. JB

I am really, really enjoying these workouts. I have to talk myself out of doing the treadmill jog/walk EVERY day! I think I may injure myself, because these old legs and knees of mine definitely ache. But it's a good ache, do you know what I mean? Like they're saying, "Yeah, we're complaining, because we're not used to being shaken around so much. But we'll still let you chase after those kinders."
Anyway, today I did week 2, day 1. I was a little bit nervous, but not to worry. By the end, I felt so great. I'm excited to do it again on Wednesday!
Any ideas for cardio for the alternate days? I cannot do the elliptical; it really DOES hurt my knees. Bike is okay but b o r i n g. I may try one of those stair climbers, or just warm up then focus on weights.

Sounds like we're on the same schedule, Coco. I just did week 2 day 1 yesterday also.
As far as other cardio, I sometimes will do a step aerobics class or water aerobics.
I wish I could find some kind of pattern for my breathing during the jogging part of the workout. I tend to feel like I'm getting out of breath and am wondering if there's some kind of breathing pattern you can do. Does anyone know?
Keep up the good work everyone!

Good morning! I completed W6D2 (week 6, day 2) this morning. I'm really nervous about the rest of this workout. I'm done with any walking. From now on, it's straight running. But, I will push on! W5D3 was 20 minutes of straight running. Thursday will be 25, so if I could make it through 20, I can surely get through 25! As far as breathing goes...I asked that question at the C25k site shortly after I began and didn't get many responses. The ones I did said that if you are out of breath, then you are running too fast. You should do the talk/sing test. You should be able to talk, but not sing. So, if you are truly out of breath, my advice would be to slow it down slightly. You can work on your speed after you get through the whole program. I've noticed that breathing does come easier naturally the longer you do this. It's not easy for me by any means, but it is easIER! As far as other cardio, two days a week, I do the elliptical, exercise bike, or if it's nice outside, I take my dog for a brisk walk or go for a hike. Good luck to everyone! JB

Marcia, This is what I do to help regulate my breathing when I am exercising hard: I make up little mantras or rhymes and say them in my head as I breathe.
Usually something like this:
"I-am-having-lots-of-fun" [breathing in] "In 90 seconds I'll stop this run" [breathing out]
Sometimes I'll just repeat, "Thank you God for making me strong" once on the inhale, once on the exhale. Add your own deity or source of inspiration.
Kind of silly, but works for me!

Thanks JB and Coco for the tips on breathing. Today I'll do week 2 day2. Wow, I can't even begin to imagine running for 20 to 25 minutes straight! That's great!! I like the idea of the mantra. Now that I think about it, I think that worked pretty well for me 2 years ago when I did a beginners running program through the Y. My weight came off really well when I was doing that program. I'm having a heck of a time with this darn 40 pounds that I've put back on. Hopefully, between WW and this running I can get it back off! Marcia

Ok....I'm rather tremulous as I write this...BUT...I am going to join you in this endeavor. I'm scared. Really scared. Because I'm going to be 50 years old in July, and this feels like pushing my own personal envelope. I know people jog much older than I, but this feels...scary...to me. (I hear ya, little limiting voice inside my head. "You're too old! Too fat! You'll get hurt! You're crazy! Why do you always have to be so EXTREME!? Why can't you just walk like everybody else?")
Ok...now I'm talkin' back:
"Ok...so what if I'm fifty? Dr. E (my physician) runs daily, and he's pushing 70. Nobody's talking about Olympics, here. We're talking about a 3 mile distance!!!!! It's NOT crazy! If you take it easy and train gradually, there's no reason on earth you can't do it. Just don't try to do it in one damned week!"
It's funny this invitation should come at this time. Monday, I ran two 13 minute miles on the treadmill at my gym. I told the gym owner (I had tears in my eyes...I was so happy) and she said that I should run a charity 5K with the gym's group in the spring.
So there ya have it. I have an invitation to run a 5K in the spring. I have a challenge posted here on this group. And I'm accepting. And I'm scared.
Is anybody else scared?

CoCo, GREAT idea on using a mantra to regulate breathing! I will also have to try that!
Susie, I completely understand where you're coming from. When I started C25K in December, I was also very scared. Heck, I'm scared to do tomorrow's workout! It seems I'm always scared before I start the workout, but once I get going that fear subsides, and when I'm done, I ask myself "Now, that wasn't so bad...so just what were you scared of?!"
Like you said, there are many others out there who are older than us and weigh more than us who've been able to do this. So why not us?!
Good luck to everyone!

Susie, it sounds like you are practically THERE! Nothing to be afraid of. I keep telling myself that I don't have to stick to the "official" training pace -- it is just a guide. If any week is too hard for me, I can break it into smaller steps.
That being said, I am having a great time with this, and so far feel like I can actually "exceed" the pace they set by tiny amounts. That makes me feel really strong and successful.
About the breathing . . . I had to laugh at myself, because I was thinking about those mantras that I wrote down and realized that I really don't say them at such a quick pace -- each breath is good for about two paces or syllables. I guess I match my breathing to my feet. Does that make sense?
Did week 2, day 2 this morning. I almost didn't go to the gym -- tried to roll over and go back to sleep, telling myself, "I'll do it tonight." Luckily, myself didn't believe me (would you?) and my body refused to go back to sleep.

I just got back from the gym. I did another two miles in 26 minutes and then tacked on a third slow walking mile for a total of 41 minutes. I'm not so scared now... Thank you, each of you, for sharing your training, your goals and your accomplishments here. If it weren't for you, i wouldn't be attempting this! Susie
