On the WW exercise board yesterday, I found a thread of people who are doing CoolRunning's Couch to 5K program. It really inspired me; a few years back, when I had lost a bunch of weight, I had taken up running. I credit running with the great shape I was in back then, but it is very hard on my body -- especially now, with 50 pounds to lose! Anyway, I am going to try again. The website is: www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtmlAnybody wanna join me?

I'm thinking about it. A few years ago, I reached goal while doing a running program at the YMCA.I am a very SLOW runner, but it sure worked to get the weight off. I went to the website you listed and to the WW boards, and I'm possibly going to start this. I'll have to run on the treadmill at the gym in this weather though. I'll post later. Marcia

I will TOTALLY join you!!! I was looking for an excuse to start that program (like health and fitness isn't good enough? lol).
I am training for the Avon Walk, but I wanted to add some more aerobic work to supplement my walk training. I can do walk training in the AM, and the couch-5K in the PM... Or vice-versa.
When are you starting?

It's a great program. I got up to about Week 7 and hurt my ankle, so I'm still kind of lingering there. I may be a little bit ahead, but can I join you guys too?

I started this training last year and didn't get very far. I got distracted by strength training, which I still love and do. Now that my knees are stronger, I'm ready to go again. I'm starting week 2 today. I expect to have to repeat some weeks down the line, as I'm a very slow runner, but I'd like to get through the training this time.
I'm in. Becky

Well, I started TODAY. It was so much fun; the time on the treadmill literally flew. I thought I would have a really hard time, but it was fine (I just went really slow -- I'm sure many of you could WALK as fast as I can run!). And best of all is that it didn't bother my knee, which has been acting up every time I use the elliptical trainer. Funny that I can run, but not do the elliptical trainer, which is so low impact! Oh well . . .
Go get 'em, girls! We can do this!

Good for you getting started right away! You will notice the time will fly by. It makes it so much more fun on the boring treadmill. I went to the gym last night and tried to run but had all kinds of problems. My ankle has been bothering me and then my headphones wouldn't stay in my ears, which was super-annoying. I can't run without music - it just ain't happening - so after about 20 minutes I called it quits. I think I'm going to buy a new pair today. I really prefer to run outside, but it's 12 degrees here today, so I don't think that's happening today. I start a kickboxing class tonight that I'm looking forward to.

I did it! I started the Couch to 5K program today at the gym, on the treadmill. Too darn cold and windy here to do anything outside. It went really well; this might just work! Marcia

One of my personal goals has been to run a 5k in September at our local marathon. I started jogging in October and have slowly progressed to 4 miles now. The first month was painful and hard, but now it amazes me how good I feel when I jog. In the past I couldn't even fathom the idea of running to the refrigerator, and now I actually crave the feeling of a run more than food. I would love to continue sharing ideas and types to reaching our 5k goals. I'm excited

Gosh, you guys are inspiring me! I just got back from doing Day 2 at the gym -- more running 60 seconds, walking 90. It really does make the time go fast. But I worry that as I progress, it will get more boring -- I mean, running for the whole 30 minutes, without getting to change the speed on the treadmill.
Okay, now I'm just being silly! When I can run 30 minutes without stopping, I will be totally psyched! I will still play around with the speeds and tilt of the treadmill. I will find ways to keep it fun and exciting.
Go, girls!

Coco,
That's kind of my problem....I get really bored on the treadmill. I highly recommend running outside when the weather permits. It's really much less boring and you can't quit in the middle of your run because you still have to get home! It's not even that bad in the cold weather if you dress properly....from what I understand it's easier to run in the cold than in the heat. But it's only about 10 degrees here today, which is a bit too cold for me. I think I will use the treadmill today myself.

I did week 1 day 2 today on the treadmill. Felt great! I watch tv while on the treadmill, so don't get bored. Marcia

Well, it snowed here today, so I had to go to the gym. I spent about a half hour on the treadmill, only 15 minutes running. I got bored and I'm not feeling so hot today, so I called it quits. The TV doesn't work to keep me from being bored at all. Music helps, but it's still boring on the treadmill. I tried to read a magazine today but couldn't read once I was running (too much bouncing). I think I will run outside tomorrow - no matter how cold it is - as long as it's not too icy.

I'm in - I actually want to run a marathon so I guess I need to take baby steps. I was up to 8 miles of a run/walk program and then... Anyway, depending on what marathon we register for I'll be running in DC in October or Disney next January...
I think it will be fun to make the progress together
