Today is Day Two of the rest of my life ... I re-committed to Core at my WW meeting last night. I joined in 2004, made Lifetime in 2005, and wandered off the plan and gained back all but 3 pounds! Ugh! But, I know Core works for me and I'm looking forward to getting back on the right track. I actually rejoined WW in July on Flex, but realized it wasn't for me. I'm not a numbers person and the counting drove me nuts. I'm anxious to see what effect Core has had on my weight loss when I weigh in next Wednesday at my meeting. On Flex, my weight fluctuated up and down, but in reviewing my little meeting weigh-in booklet from a few years ago, I see that my weight loss was more consistent on Core.
I know that I need to work on getting in all of my water, fruits/veggies, milk and oil, but I'm pleased that I at least don't veer away from Core foods - they're so satisfying that I honestly don't feel the urge. Why in the world did I wander from Core? That’s what I’ll be analyzing within myself as I go through this journey again.
My menu yesterday was:
B – FF iced latte, boiled egg, oatmeal made with water & Splenda S – Boiled egg L – WW pasta with olives, egg, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, tuna and FF drsg, grapes D – Grilled hamburger patty with salsa, FF cheese, tomato and pintos S – Smoothie made with FF milk, 1 tsp cocoa powder, frozen banana and Splenda
I realize cocoa isn’t Core, but as I recall, 1 tsp is zero points. I need to expand my options for breakfast, but since I’m getting back into the swing of things, I’d rather reach for a definite Core item (a boiled egg) that’s handy until I can do the Plan with my eyes closed.
Today’s menu was:
B – Boiled egg, fruit, FF latte, oatmeal S – Boiled egg L – Grilled hamburger patty, ff cheese, tomato, salsa, banana D – Taco salad (lettuce, ff sour cream, ff cheese, salsa, ground beef, taco seasoning) S – Homemade chocolate smoothie
Again, taco seasoning isn’t Core - will use WPA.
These are the types of menus I followed that got me to Lifetime two years ago, so I’m not going to fix something that’s not broken. If I find that I’m not losing, I can always adjust accordingly.
--------------------
Found a thought-provoking saying that I really like:
IT’S NOT A FAILURE – IT’S FEEDBACK.
If you find that you’re not doing well on the plan, don’t look at it as a FAILURE – look at it as FEEDBACK – an opportunity to analyze what you’re doing and take steps to correct it and not repeat.

Hi, CL!! ;D Welcome to Kippy's! Congrats on re-committing to WW and Core for yourself! We all need to re-commit every day...sometimes I feel I should be committed LOL. I love your saying about feedback, not failure! Fantastic, just what I needed to hear today. I will have to remember that one. Have a good day and see you around the Kippy threads!

Thanks for the welcome, Cathy!
Today was a good day:
B - Boiled egg, serving of fruit, FF latte
S - Boiled egg
L - Leftover taco salad made with Core ingredients, FF cottage cheese with pineapple
S - More FF cottage cheese with pineapple
D - Grilled chicken breast, 1/3 baked potato with ff sour cream, ff cheese and salsa, mushrooms grilled with olive oil
S - Homemade smoothie
I still need to work on getting in all of my veggies.
------------------------------------------
On my home scale, I'm down 1/2 a pound since Wednesday. I've always weighed myself every day (except for that period of time when I was doing Flex and didn't attend meetings for two weeks). I understand the fluctuations and don't usually become discouraged by the number on the display - I like to gauge my progress by how my clothes fit instead.
It's sooooo good to be back on the Core wagon!

Will be a busy day today - DS's are home and we're planning a lunch tomorrow for DH's aunt. We'll grill hamburgers and hot dogs, so that will be easy and I'll have a Core friendly hamburger patty on lettuce and make a salad out of it.
So far today:
B - Shredded wheat cereal w/ff milk, ff iced latte
When I wake up ;D I have housework to do!

HI, it's great to have you back. We all take detours and often they are the most memorable part of our journey. I'm a cereal and fruit girl for breakfast. I like a 7-grain hot cereal for the cooler weather we are experiencing. Looking forward to your posts. HIHO Katie

Katie - Thanks for the welcome back! ;D And, thanks for the breakfast tip - I really do have a tendency to get into a rut with breakfast. -------------------- In addition to my boiled egg breakfast standby, I also like hot instant oatmeal. I found a brand I really love - it's organic and comes out super creamy with hot water - I like to save my milk serving for my latte and cottage cheese with fruit. The timing of my meals yesterday's menu wasn't typical for me but was at least Core. For lunch I had taco salad with leftover taco seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomato, ff cheese, ff sour cream, and salsa. Had cottage cheese with fruit for snack. We didn't get home until midnight last night (went car shopping with DS1 and we live almost 2 hours from a major city). Ate at midnight which I hate to do, but had 1/3 leftover baked potato with FF cheese and FF sour cream. Also had a serving of cottage cheese and pineapple. According to my home scale, I'm down 1 pound since last Wednesday. (I know some people don't believe in weighing in each day, but I have for years. I'm well aware of the fluctuations we go thru, but weighing daily keeps me aware.) ---------- Today we're having relatives over for a mid-afternoon lunch (they move a little more slowly than we do), and will grill hamburgers (I have my lean ground beef) and hot dogs (won't touch them). I'll have my hamburger patty with melted FF cheese and salsa and make a side salad with my burger veggies (lettuce, tomato, etc.). I love that I can cook for everyone and adapt what I eat to Core. I'll pass on the pecan pie and ice cream and have pineapple chunks. The thought of eating all that sugar makes me gag anyway - goodness, what has Core done to me? Will check back later!

Hey CountryLoser,
Please tell me how you make your latte's. This sounds like a yummy way to get your milk in. Thanks!

Paula - Hi!
I get my FF iced lattes from Starbucks. But, I also make my own smoothies to get my milk in.
I make a homemade Frappuccino that I love:
1 cup ff milk 3/4 cup warm water mixed w/2 tsp of instant coffee 2 packets of Splenda or equal splash of vanilla extract (if you want vanilla flavored) 1 cup ice Blend really well in blender or smoothie maker.
--------------------- I have one homemade Chocolate Banana smoothie each day:
1 c ff milk 2 packets Splenda 1 frozen/sliced banana 1 tsp cocoa (not Core, but zero points once a day) I like mine w/o ice, but you can add 1 cup ice if you like. Blend really well in blender or smoothie maker.
I know that the mixes may contain more protein, but I've just never liked the taste of powdered smoothie mixes.

Thanks so much!
I'm so boring with my eating. Very plain. I get such great ideas reading the site here. Don't post much, but love to read!

Paula-
I'm a lot like that, too- I get into a routine menu and before long, it's totally repetitious. I tend to prepare a food item and then eat the leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day as well. I really do need to venture out more and be more daring in my food choices. I guess that I'm just so pooped after work that I don't feel very adventurous. I tend to take a little more time on weekends to try a new dish or two occasionally. I really have no excuse though, because it's just DH and I at home now.
-----------------------------------
I did well yesterday and stayed on plan throughout our grill out. I served all the typical grill out non-Core items to everyone and I stuck to my guns (goodness, do I sound like a native Texan, or what?) and had my lean hamburger patty served on top of a salad. I was so busy serving everyone that I forgot all about having my pineapple for dessert ... scooping up ice cream and pecan pie for everyone distracted me. LOL!
Today my menu was:
B - Boiled egg (surprise!), cantalope, FF iced latte (Starbucks)
S - FF cottage cheese and pineapple chunks
L - Leftover hamburger patty, lettuce, salsa, FF cheese, FF sour cream, grape tomatoes (yum!), and a banana
S - Boiled egg
D - Not sure yet - probably another leftover hamburger patty salad, or I may whip up some chicken salad with FF mayo. Hmm - will give that some thought.
I had a homemade smoothie when I got home from work, so I'm not really hungry right now.
My WI day is Wednesday and I'm really looking forward to it - I know I'm nuts, but it's my first full recommitment week back on Core (after trying Flex for two months) and I want to see my actual WW scale WI results since it always differs from my home scale.
I've made my lunch for work tomorrow - grilled chicken breast (cubed) covered with black beans, salsa, FF sour cream, and FF cheese. I had the cooked chicken breast in the freezer, so it's quick and easy.

Country - it sounds like you are doing really awesome on Core - i'm sure your WI will be a good one. Thanks for your note - I hope a year from now you can still say you're following my lead! It's a slippery slope... I made Lifetime just a few months ago in June so the novelty hasn't quite worn off yet. Working for WW will help keep me on track because I have to do employee WI once a month. It's something I think we need to make a commitment to every day I think (although some days are better than others).
Have a great day!
-Beth

Hi! I do make my own polenta. I don't even know if I have the ready-made kind in my supermarket. Polenta is only corn meal cooked with water or broth, it's easy to make, even in the microwave. Here is the polenta recipe I use for breakfast. I thought I had the pizza crust one, but I can't find it! Quick Polenta BreakfastPut 1/4 cup cornmeal in a large bowl with a dash of salt. Slowly add 1 cup of water and stir. Microwave for 2 minutes. Then, stir, add a slice of ff cheese (break into strips first, or simply add a bit of shredded ff cheese if you prefer). Stir well and microwave for another minute. While it cools, you can cook an up egg to serve over the polenta. Let us know how you did at WI! You will do great on Core.

Beth- I think that's where I fell off the wagon ... I stopped weighing in at my meetings, and when my clothes got a little snug, I went into denial and even stopped weighing in at home. A hard lesson learned!
Paula- I work at a rural hospital. We moved here to our little farm area from the big city. At a small facility like ours, staff members wear many hats and job duties overlap some - not as specific as in large companies. DH and I live on acreage and keep up 50 acres with cattle and hayfields - there's always something to do! I always joke that I traded dodging traffic for dodging cow poop! LOL
Cathy- Thanks so much for sharing your polenta breakfast recipe - I can't wait to try it! Sounds so yummy!
-------------------------------------------
I sort of "ruined" my appetite yesterday evening by having a smoothie right away when I got home from work, rather than as my evening snack. Sooooo ... I wasn't hungry for dinner (hey, that may not be a bad approach! LOL) ... I had a few bites of chicken salad as I made it to refrigerate for a lunch later this week. Made the salad with canned chicken breast, FF mayo, chopped onions and a few chopped green olives. Later I had a 1/4 cup black beans.
Today's menu was:
B - FF iced latte from Starbucks (a daily staple) and oatmeal made with water and Splenda
S - none
Lunch - Black beans, salsa, FF sour cream and FF cheese melted over chopped grilled chicken breast, and a pear.
S - Banana
D - Again repeated yesterday and had a smoothie when I got home from work. Then, I had 1/3 hamburger patty and a serving of shredded wheat with FF milk.
S - None
(Boy, do I need to get more veggies in!) ------------------------
Will not repeat having a smoothie right away after work - at first it fills me up, but then mid-evening my hunger returns with a vengance. Will go back to having my smoothie as a snack after dinner.
------------
Tomorrow is WI at my meeting and, unfortunately, I feel TOM coming on and I feel bloated. Darn the timing! I really wanted to get a true picture of my weight loss after my first recommittment week on Core. Oh well, it will give me a baseline to compare to next week.
I'd like to eat out tomorrow with DH and noticed that Applebees has a Core steak with portobella mushrooms (served with potatoes (not mashed) and steamed broccoli). Sounds yummy! May do that if we have time after my meeting tomorrow evening.
Good, bad or ugly, I'll report tomorrow on the results of my WI.

I weighed in today at my meeting and I lost 1.8 pounds this past week!!! Needless to say, I'm thrilled. After being on Flex since mid-July and yo-yoing weight loss, it's nice to know that I can get back on Core and on my way to my goal. I had no clue that I lost over 1 pound and I surely didn't expect almost 2! So now I've been initiated and have to stay the course. ------------------------- Today's menu: B - Boiled egg, ff iced latte S - None L - Salad with lettuce olives and beets, FF drsg, steamed broccoli S - None D - Applebee's Steak & Portobella dinner (Core from the WW menu). Steak wasn't very good, but broccoli, mushrooms and potatoes were great. S - Homemade chocolate smoothie ----------------------------------- I don't expect to lose as much weight each week from this point to goal - I'm 9 pounds away from the top of my WW range and I know not to expect large losses each week at this point. My meeting topic was interesting (do all meetings have the same topic on the same weeks?) ... had us thinking about our WW resume - our strengths as it relates to WW. Very thought-provoking!
