Welcome to the journal clan. I'm really excited to read what you eat. Being from the middle of Iowa, we are a pretty meat and potato culture, and I love to see the different things people eat. Katie

Well, yesterday was MOSTLY Core but not entirely...know what to do to improve the choices I make...just need to DO IT!
Thanks Katie for the comment...hope you find something new, unusual or of interest to read in what I eat. I lived a number of my elementary school years in Iowa and my son went to college and graduated from Iowa State and now is in Omaha...and...my duaghter (who spent her university years in North Carolina) will be moving with her husband to Missouri soon where they will both be working on the Colombia University campus....

Hi, Cathy - nice name! ;D Welcome to the journal forum. Except for the bread it sounds like you have a wealth of Core foods available to you! And you do you have those 35 points. No time limit - you will reach goal in your own time!

Cathy...are you a Catherine like I am or??? At on point in my life I wanted to be a Kate/Cate but it never worked out that I was called by that so I grew into being a Cathy...think I envied the Kate in my class...funny how kids are.
The food is plentiful and great here but there are no diet type foods or legal cereals or...well...the foods are great that ARE core so I am focusing on that on my way to a healthier and thinner me.
My wake-up call was on the 19th when I saw 180 on the scale didn't see me back on Core immediately but with three days back on and a few days trying something similar first I can say I am down to 175 in my pajamas and 174 naked when I stepped on the scale this morning.
March 26, 2007
Breakfast coffee 1/2 cup leftover bulgur 2 eggs labne tomatoes green tabasco (couldn't eat all of it so left some for the chickens)
Snack 1/2 avocado banana
Lunch whole wheat spaghetti meat sauce nonfat milk
Dinner nonfat yogurt strawberries all-bran (sometimes think for me this and bran flakes should be legal or a tweak since there is no fiber one at all or shredded wheat)
wine in the evening

Yes, I am Catherine too! ;D I like it spelled with a "C", looks better ...but no offense but I hate our name! LOL Everyone spells it with a "K" automatically, makes me crazy. You are doing really good with your food choices and getting in 8GHG at the same time since you have such good stuff available to you. Are you getting in your water too?

Cathy -
I hope you had a better last name than I did growing up. Mine was Huston but said as if it was Houston. I was called all sorts of things along the way. Then, when I married, I thought I would get something like smith or jones or robinson or...whatever but instead got Geha that really should be spelled Jeha but...isn't so have had even more fun with that moniker! I did, at one point on ICQ opt to put in as my name Lady Catherine and felt quite special then. I am not sure why but it seemed more important. I am more of a Cathy than a Catherine but don't mind either as much as I did when younger. I sometimes wonder what I would rename myself if given the chance? In French classes in High School we were given the option to name ourselves and I chose either Chantal or Giselle and both are on parr with Catherine.
In fact...our names do not define us but instead we and what we do and how we are seen by ourselves and others does this for us.
The 8 HGH are EASY to get in here! NO troubles at all! Limiting portions might be but otherwise...no problem at all!

LOL if I told you my last name you would not believe it. I'm not married so I've been living with the combo a long time. Not only is my first name spelled incorrectly, my last is mispronounced and misspelled!! I am American with Russian ancestry, no one can ever pronounce my last name. I myself was mispronouncing your last name in my head all along! ;D You got that right - our names do not define us. There are very few first names I like anyway - male or female. I definitely prefer Cathy to Catherine for myself too. My full name is just for driver's license and other official things... I think you are going to do fantastic with Core this time around!

Could be worse....you could be a Kathleen! Also constantly misspelled, which, along with my easily-mispronounced, easily-misspelled 4-syllable last name, allows me to feel your pain. I still use my married name (Slovak origin), though I'm single again, because even though it's longer than my maiden name (Czech origin), it actually gets screwed up a bit less often. --The other Kathy (just had to chime in )

Day four journal...back on core. I find that if I have a bit of wine in the evening it can become more than a bit...wonder if I need to put it into baggies or portion it out or??? Anyway...here is what i ate...
March 27, 2007
Breakfast dry oats (about 1/2 cup) mixed with 1 cup nonfat yogurt and strawberries, chopped and 6 almonds (1 point) and 1 teaspoon carob molasses (0.3 points)
Lunch whole wheat spaghettie with meat sauce nonfat milk banana
Dinner polenta topped with mashed garbanzo and kidney beans topped with avocado mashed and mixed with labne topped with tomatoes (chopped) and lettuce green tabasco wine
Kathy and Cathy...I seem to be in great company and isn't it strange that we all ended up with tricky to say last names?

LOL, my given name is Kay and I'm constantly asked if I'm really Katherine. I've been called Katie since I was a kid. Only older relatives and ornery brothers still call me Kay. My married name is Lightbody, how's that for a former not light bodied person. lol for the first time in my married life, I fit my name.
Congratulations on your success with Core, you are doing a great job. Katie

Hi, Cathy/Kathy/Katie!!! LOL
Cathy - Summer is happening in June ;D and I want to be 2 lbs. under goal so I have some leeway with summertime fun activities. I'm not doin' so good.
Kathy/Vita- and we 2 are of Slovak origin too - how funny!
Katie - Love your last name! So interesting and easy to pronounce!
Cathy/Geha - I'm not sure if you posted this somewhere, but you seem to be tempted by bread because a lot of your foods over there are eaten with bread....I see you make polenta, do you also have access to brown rice, couscous (whole wheat, or even the plain kind, no flavorings), potatoes? You could supplement your dinner meal with these instead of the bread. Also other grains like bulgar and quinoa are good to serve with veggies. Just a suggestion.

It would seem there are a lot of Cathy/Kathy/Katies doing CORE here...it is nice to be in such good company! Cathy - You asked if we have grains here that I can have with meals instead of bread. In the markets there is bulgur in coarse and fine grind, wheatberries, oatmeal and in the health food shops you can find most whole grains. I picked up whole wheat couscous one time but still have not made it. The trouble seems to be that most of the vegetable and stew based foods are just scooped up with bread...think it goes back to the time before plates and forks when all ate from a community pot using bread to get the food out with. Also, it was a way of extending the meal and calories of the meal for those on low incomes. Anyway...I will adapt and perservere Thanks for caring and sharing! March 28, 2007Day 5 on Core (sort of)...Breakfast½ cup dry mixed grain rolled oat type cereal mixed with 1 cup nonfat yogurt topped with grated apple 6 chopped almonds and LunchWhole wheat spaghetti Meat sauce Nonfat milk mixed with banana and vanilla DinnerFul beans with garlic, lemon and olive oil Strawberries Nonfat milk (2 glasses) ½ avocado SnacksA few sugared hazelnuts ExerciseWorked in the garden – planted vegetables on lower landing morning then in the afternoon took orange blossom buds from trimmed branches...not sure if we can use them for anything, though, since the buds have not opened and usually the flower is used. Journal Day six back on Core but day 10 of being back on some sort of program. Tomorrow is official day to weigh in (Core) but if I started on the 19th then by the 26th I had lost about four pounds and as of this morning am down (since the 19th) 6 pounds...something must be working. First goal is to be below 170 again...four pounds and I will be...or perhaps five since four will take me TO 170 ļ
Breakfast Coffee Polenta topped with Mashed beans and Guacamole made from avocado and labne Egg on top of all Green Tabasco Orange
Lunch Potatoes and eggs with onions and ketcypo Nonfat milk Orange
Dinner Hindbe (chicory greens) boiled and served with chopped onions, olive oil, lemon juice and salt Nonfat goat cheese Nonfat mik
Exercise More time in the garden trimming pomegranate trees and being with Mounah to assist with grapevine tying. I believe we have more grapevine tying to do today and will be meeting up with the man that will be turning our old olive oil into soap...should be another busy day...oh...the plow is also coming to till the earth or at least SOME of it.

Hi - Fall Muffins are a muffin (all Core ingredients, but I know baked goods aren't Core... ) that someone, I think Chicagobeth, put on the appropriate recipe thread, or maybe I did, I don't remember.... They are made with canned pumpkin, apple, pear if you want, oatmeal instead of flour, baking soda, etc. the usual ingredients to make muffins except no flour. They are good to have for breakfast or as a snack sometimes so I like to freeze them plus keep some in the fridge. I'm sure they are on the breakfast recipe thread, take a look! So good. Have a great weekend!
