Today was my "splurge" day; I haven't ever really felt the need to use WPAs during the week. DH and I went out to dinner at an Italian restaurant. More about that later.
But first . . . I went to the health club for the third day in a row. I weighed in . . . and found I had lost another 2.25 pounds. So now I have lost at least 4 pounds. Yippee!
Breakfast -- 1/2 portion oatmeal with soy milk, cinnamon, splenda, and 1/2 pear; orange Lunch -- big salad with chicken, avocado, ff cheese, spinach, romaine, scallions, tomato, and chewy "croutons" made from polenta Dinner -- italian restaurant. 2 glasses of wine (4 points), minestrone soup, 1 piece bread (6 points -- it was big), grilled salmon, grilled asparagus (3 points -- oily), 1/2 c mashed potatoes (6 points -- very rich); later, hubbie and I went to Starbucks for ff latte.

Okay, it's confession time.
As a Core newbie, I have experienced some of the requisite confusion about what is Core, and what is NOT. I couldn't find real whole wheat pasta at my grocery store, so I bought the blend. At Costco, I saw what I thought was a great find -- a three-pack of Silk soymilk at a reduced price. When I got home, I discovered it was VANILLA soymilk -- definitely not core. And at Whole Foods, I discovered Israeli couscous, which is probably not Core, either.
Oh, well.
In the interest of enjoying new foods, keeping my life simple and yet interesting, and being good to myself, I have decided to just go ahead and treat these slip-ups as Core. Just this once. Just until I finish the packages. If I do not lose weight, I will re-evaluate. So far, I have found that the vanilla soymilk is delicious on cereal and in smoothies, but continues to act as an appetite supressant for me, just like the regular stuff. I have not binged on it or anything else since I started Core on the Tuesday after Christmas. I have not opened the pasta or Israeli couscous yet.
My plan for today: Get some exercise. It has finally stopped raining; maybe I'll be able to go for a good old-fashioned walk. Also, plan lunches for the coming week (key to my success -- having homemade frozen meals ready to go).
Breakfast: (Already eaten) -- Puffed wheat, banana, soy milk, orange. And COFFEE, of course!!!!
Lunch: (this is my plan) -- chicken avocado salad
Snack: fruit and/or fruit/soy smoothie
Dinner: Steak, baked potato, some kind of green veggie

I did not get up to exercise this morning. For some reason, I decided that I could not leave the kids alone, although they are old enough. I had an irrational fear about there being a fire or other natural disaster. I guess it's not entirely irrational, with all that's been in the news lately, combined with the very dramatic (especially for Northern California) thunder and lightening storm that was going on at the time.
Anyway, I think I am over it; in the light of day my fears seemed pretty silly and just an excuse to sleep in.
I am still full from my after school snack. I wonder if I can get away with skipping dinner without upsetting DH and kids.
Someone at work noticed that I had lost some weight today -- NSV!

That's awesome!! Congrats! Don't worry about the feelings in regard to leaving your children to go exercise. How old are they? Plus, haven't you watched the talk shows where they have guests who left their children for just minutes and some disaster ocurred? I don't think you should leave them AT ALL (depending on their ages, of course). Anyway, I'm with ya on the rain. Today was gorgeous, I'm so glad. I'm in Southern California, though. I didn't know it was bad up there, too. We've even had mudslides that have killed a few people. Pretty scary.

My first week on CORE I ate healthy harvest BLEND pasta and SF FF apartame loaded yogurt and I still lost BUT I find real ww pasta and FF unsweetened yogurt to be more satisfying, they make me feel better. So use it up and move on to the good stuff!
Good Luck!

Gosh, it's gratifying when someone replies to your journal -- makes me feel validated somehow. Thanks, Nydah and Tender!
I have had a couple of days of frustration. I think in the old days, it would be binge time. It is hard to explain, but it has to do with food and probably a vague feeling of unease. Anyway, during these times, I used to eat and eat . . . all junk food. Anything I could get my hands on, but it couldn't be healthy. I have had this same feeling the past two nights. I felt a little bit hungry (stomach rumbly and empty feeling) but nothing sounded good. Therefore, my logical side tells me that I was NOT really hungry. Last night, the dinner I made tasted gross -- the turkey was processed (once again, bought the wrong thing!) and we ended up dumping it out. Luckily, the kids seemed to like dinner and ate their portions. After dinner, I tried several things -- wasted a lot of food in the process. I poured myself a bowl of cereal with my yummy Silk soymilk. It tasted like sawdust. I poured it out and made cream of wheat with milk and splenda. It tasted like paste. I dumped that, too. Finally, I ate an orange and felt satisfied.
NSV: We had my formerly favorite munch food, Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal in the house. I had just bought it for my daughter. I did think about just having a bowl of that, but didn't do it. Today, I am glad.
So, yesterday's food:
Breakfast -- 2 eggs, orange Lunch -- homemade bean soup, a couple of small pieces of "fried" polenta, apple Snack (with the little ones at school) -- grapes Snack -- 1/3 bag of 94% ff microwave popcorn; small bowl of yogurt with a packet of splenda Dinner -- turkey, rice, artichoke heart, mushroom goopy yucky casserole (did not eat the turkey after one bite), yummy salad with avocado, good greens, and the dressing I call Core. Snack -- bite of icky cereal; bite of icky cream of wheat; orange

I have had kind of a frustrating day. My coffee maker exploded on me -- hot water and ground coffee everywhere. Not what you want to have happen at 5:30 in the morning! Anyway, here's my weird food for the day:
Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled, with Canadian bacon a cup of very murky coffee, which I salvaged from the exploded coffee maker
A venti nonfat s-f vanilla latte from Starbucks (my splurge to help myself feel better after feeling anger at DD and DS for various reasons . . .)
Carrot-ginger soup apple Diet Coke
a couple of orange slices
Snack: eggs and canadian bacon (weird, I know, but it was so good this morning!)
A glass of red wine
Now I am about to eat steak, baked potato, and salad.
I exercised for 30 minutes today. I was lucky to get it in!

Well, I finished up the exercise week strong; I had entered a challenge posted on this site to get 210 minutes of cardio and two strength training workouts in. I did 225 minutes of cardio this week, and yes, barely got in the two weight workouts. Yay, me!
I was motivated by someone else on this site who mentioned how beneficial exercise is, not only for health in general, but also for weight loss. Yes, I KNOW this. I need to make it a strong habit again. I know that the better shape I am in, the more I enjoy exercise. Being as heavy as I am now, it pretty much is no fun at all. But I am beginning to have moments of joy and that wonderful "runners' high" when I exercise. My knee hurts, though, and so does my back. This is not good. I have never been a person with knee or back problems; why now?
Food today: Breakfast -- oatmeal with frozen blueberries, skim milk, sugar-free syrup, orange, coffee Lunch -- soy/banana/yogurt/strawberry smoothie; 1/2 bag popcorn; 1 oz. steak (kind of a strange, on-the-run lunch -- I definitely was NOT practicing mindful eating!) Snack -- skim milk latte, apple, two small pieces of cookie given by Whole Foods as a sample Dinner -- lean hamburger patty, oven fries, salad, glass red wine
With the wine and bites of cookie, I figure I used 4 WPAs, but probably earned at least that many with 55 minutes of cardio and 20 of weight training.

Today has been a strange day. I decided to eat raisin bran (not core) for breakfast. I don't know why; I just felt contrary and wanted to use WPAs! I am saving them for . . . what, exactly?
DH is having buddies and their (male) offspring over to watch football, including all the football-related junk food and beer that they MUST have. So I have excused myself from the house for the day. I mall-walked -- definitely NOT an experience I want to repeat soon; for some reason I thought it would be fun and different. But the reality is, I HATE malls!
Now I am at work (but not working, obviously!). It's nice and quiet here. My food for the day so far:
Raisin bran with skim milk and banana, coffee
The next time I was hungry, I tried to make an omlette with canadian bacon but for some reason after about a bite I felt stuffed. Weird.
Chipotle stew with soya cheese and avocado
Subway sandwich with chicken, veggies, mustard (7 WPAs); nonfat latte
I feel like I have eaten a lot today, and it is only 4:40 in the afternoon. I'm sure I will want something later tonight; not sure what. Maybe soup.
It sure felt good using those WPAs today, though, even if they were healthy choices. (I was tempted to get some soft ice cream but decided not to feed that nasty sugar monster!)

LOL- Sometimes I feel contrary and often non-CORE cereal is the soapbox from which I stamp my impudent foot. I had some frosted rice chex not too long ago.
Sounds to me like you are working out some emo-eating vs real hunger issues, CORE brings those right to the forefront for me. I'm glad you are writing it all down.

Last night when I got home, DH was still watching football with the guys, and I didn't feel too sociable, so DD and I stayed upstairs in my room and watched TV (she had already eaten dinner). I ended up just not eating, so I was starving when I woke up (at 4:30 a.m.). I ate often today, but all were small portions. Bowl of shredded wheat with skim milk and blueberries Polenta slices with poached egg and Canadian bacon Honeydew Polenta with blueberries and sf syrup Polenta with ff refried beans, salsa, chopped tomato, and guacamole ff latte from Peet's More polenta with beans, etc. All polenta, all the time -- can you tell I finally learned how to make it today? Today I started the Couch to 5K program -- it felt so good! And didn't bother my knee at all. Later, I took DD bike-riding on the trail (she rode; I walked). So all in all, I got in 30 minutes treadmill, 55 minutes fast walking, and 15 minutes weight training.

Gosh, it's hard to go back to school after a three-day weekend! But at least I wasn't grazing all day long, like I did for the past couple of days. I did not exercise today because of all the pain I was in last night -- and I am still a little ache-y today. Tomorrow I will get up early to do Day 2 of the Couch to 5K program; I am excited about it!
Food today:
Oatmeal with blueberries, skim milk, and yogurt -- I only ate about a third of this concoction because I ran out of time! I ate the rest of the FRESH (on sale) blueberries over the course of the morning.
Bean soup, apple, water
Banana, strawberry soy smoothie
Dinner (baking right now) Lemon pepper pork loin with red new potatoes, peas
Can I say it again? I LOVE CORE! All this good food I have eaten today, and not had to count a point. Plus, I was really never ravenous. Woohoo!
[later...] Okay, I have just eaten a delicious dinner, but overate the potatoes. They were DELICIOUS...but definitely a food to watch out for, Core or not! Oh, well. Funny, but "BC" (before Core) I would have eaten too much, then gone on to eat MORE. The worse I felt, the more I'd eat. Right now, I am thinking, "I don't like the way my stomache feels right now." Viva la difference!

Okay, not a bad Core day at all. I got up early and did my Couch to 5K program. I ate a very small portion of shredded wheat with blueberries and milk, and a cup of tea before I went.
My health club has one of those coffee pod machines, so when I was done, I made myself a "to go" cup. There's motivation for a coffee freak like me -- first, go for a run . . . THEN you can have your coffee!
For my "real" breakfast, I had 2 poached eggs with Canadian bacon on top of some polenta, with a slice of melon. Mmmmmmm.
Over the course of the morning, I ate a banana, blueberries, and some grapes, along with a tiny container of cottage cheese for my on-the-run lunch.
At my meeting after school, I stayed away from the unhealthy snacks, and ate raw red pepper strips, a few handfuls of pistachios (I counted 5 points; really I have no idea how to measure . . .) and diet soda.
Dinner was leftover pork and potatoes, with more grapes for dessert.
I'm very tired, but looking forward to doing some strength training in the morning before work! ;D

I just noticed that I am a Core Guru! Who knew?
Yesterday I had 2 restaurant meals. I think I didn't do too badly, especially since I had saved most of my WPAs for just such an occasion.
My mom and I had lunch at Chipotle's. I got the Burrito Bol. It had lettuce, grilled chicken (seemed dry, so I didn't add any WPAs for oil), black beans, fajita veggies (I think cooked with oil, so I counted 2 points but could also be my oil requirement!), guacomole, corn salsa, and hot red salsa. It was delicious - - like eating a taco salad. I noticed as I was eating it that each bite was mostly lettuce, a little corn, a little bean or chicken.
Then for dinner DH and I went out for Chinese. I am a little frustrated this morning, because I can't find the points value for everything, but basically, none of it was Core! I made the best choices I could and stayed away from those crispy fried things. Here goes: 2 cups hot and sour soup - 4 points 1 cup beef and brocolli - 4 points 2 Mushu pork pancakes with duck sauce - 6 points (estimate -- not sure about the pork, which is steamed, mostly veggies, but the pork itself didn't seem too lean. Pancakes are 1 point each, duck sauce 1 point per tblsp, I think.) About 2 cups "dry" cooked green beans (yeah, right -- delicious, but there was definitely oil involved!) 4 points (again, my guess) 1 Beer -- 3 points
So, a huge meal, although I did try not to overeat, but worth every bite!
I didn't get in the milk requirement yesterday. Today I am sipping a glass of milk RIGHT NOW, first thing in the morning, along with my coffee. Gotta work on that.
