Hey everyone. I just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year. May it be full of peace for the world, civil rights for everyone and family relationships that are healthy.
It was strange last night at my MIL. I was sitting on the couch with our son and with his dad (who is my partner's brother). My MIL came up to us and said of look at this "family". It felt strange I guess because it felt like somehow she didn't see my partner, myself and Max as a real famiy. I just looked at her and said, "Yes, one of our many variations." It was a little odd. Overall our families are very supportive but occasionally we get the not very subtle "vibe" from my partner's parents that we are not quite good enough. It hurts...sigh...
I am glad we have this thread going. It feels good to share with everyone. Back to CORE we go after the carnage of the holidays.
Peace -xena

Hey slimcris, I've spent a bunch of time up in Bangor... some for work and also a bunch of time working on the last presidential race. We had about 10 staff people going up there, and I was the "advance" for all our union members/volunteers. The first night I was in town a few of us went to a tiny little bar in the middle of nowhere, which had just a very few other people there. Eventually, while we were eavesdropping on their conversation, we realized they were trying to eavesdrop on us. We had both figured out the others were campaign staff/volunteers, and they turned out to be Senator Edwards advance team. It was cool. We watched the Red Sox game together - no where better than maine for that!

Happy New Year Everyone!
Cycle, that is funny. Amazing where you meet some people, people you'd never expect. Bet watching the game was fun.
Xena, sorry that happened. Family dynamics are interesting, to say the least.

Happy New Years everyone. Thanks for all of your support. Overall we are blessed with a VERY supportive family but occassionally something like that happens and it makes me wonder where folks really are at.

hi there,
I just got home from Brokeback Mountain, and though it's been said before, it really is a beautiful movie that crossed all gender-preference-stigma-stereotyping lines and told a profoundly compelling story about two PEOPLE. I went with three gay friends and we all, even me...straight girl(!), could relate to the the characters on so many deep levels. Plus the film is visually pretty stunning.
So if you have a spare few hours, I would recommend it, highly.

My partner and I went and saw it a week ago. We came home and were just silent for the longest time. It really affected us. The movie is beautifully done. It mostly made me feel really sad because undoubtedly this story is still happening around the world. Both the love and the violence. I am glad that it has managed to be so accessible to such a large audience. That inspires hope in and of itself.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! I just got an email from Human Rights Campaign and thought that those of you that read this message board would enjoy it. www.hrc.org On the main site, they have a Valentine's Day message from couples, along with pictures. Very cute.
