Happy day after everyone! The weather in Florida is rainy today so we'll have to find an indoor activity. I have definitely hit my 35 WPA and then some but I have been trying to be active each day as well. I definitely feel relaxed and not stressed and I definitely needed that. My DH went back to Chicago last night, DS and I are here until Saturday and then we are going to the Wisconsin Dells Sat-Mon (his 5th B-day is Jan. 1 so we'll be there for that). He doesn't go back to school until Jan. 8 so it will still be awhile until we get back into our regular routine.
I am debating whether or not to WI here in Florida on Friday or just skip it and wait until I am home at my own center next Friday. Does anyone have experience weighing in at a different location?
Kate - I hope you find some relief soon and can be pain-free.
Sulee - hang in there, it's a great time for reflection.
Ema - way to go on the exercise! This is probably a great week to be at the gym because so many people are away.
Vita - hope your trifle was as good as it sounds!
Coco - good for you for getting on the scale, sometimes that's what it takes to get you refocused again. I know you can do it.
Does anyone have any exciting New Year's plans?
Enjoy your week, hopefully it's a restful one.
-Beth

Katie, I hope your back feels better soon. Take it easy, okay?
I loved reading about how everybody else spent Christmas . . . we are really such a diverse group, and yet have a strong connection here at Kippy's.
I ate mostly Core for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. DH cooked a roast which I thought was Core, but when I looked it up in my Food Companion, it says that Rib Eye roasts are not Core. I really don't care; I had one nice slice and it sure seemed lean to me.
On the downside, I've contracted another terrible cold. I've got two weeks off and I sure hate to "waste" it being sick! Except for making a few phone calls, I'm going to spend today very quietly -- no exercise, mostly trying to rest and beat this thing.

Hello all,
Well weigh in was tragic at best but what can I expect after all the beer, sweets, and food of the last 3 days. This week I am up 3.2, but for the month of December actually down a total of 3.2. So not as good I hoped for but not too bad either.
The hard part for me today is getting away from the sugar and snacking. I get in the habit and it just keeps going. I am definitely going to work out and hopefully that will help me get motivated. Wish me luck. The trick is life is keeping these detours short and refocus quickly.

so this challenge has been a real bust for me... but i sure hope that we decide that a v-day challenge might be do-able. I have no travels projected till early Feb and that, in addition to officially re-joining ww, will really help my efforts, i hope!!
xx's and oo's to all of you for hanging in there with me as i have struggled to find my way back to better choice making and weight loss.

Hi! Good morning everyone and happy after holidays! Oh right - they're not over yet LOL at least not for me...a party this Fri. and then New Year's Eve and New Year's Day events...oh well... I did not overeat on Christmas Day but I did eat too much and drank too....WPA's?? what are those?...DBF was sick with a slight stomach virus but still the day was blessed and we had fun...lots of family and friends around. For New Year's Eve I am cooking dinner for just me and DBF, crock pot pork loin with sweet potatoes, it's Core, I forgot where I found the recipe...then some champagne and turn on the TV at 11:45.. ...New Year's Day my DBF's family always has another celebration. I did exercise yesterday finally. I was up 1.2 at WI Wed. but it was expected...today's WI should be more of the same but when I look at the big picture...I'm maintaining. I want to lose, but maintaining is good...next week I am Core with a vengeance! Everyone -- REFOCUS! Glad everyone had a nice holiday!

Well, this probably isn't the way to do it, but my huge gain from last week is gone. I've still got this blasted cold, so my appetite isn't as large as usual and it's been very easy to just not eat all the treats that are still around the house. Also, against my better judgment, I did go to the gym this morning for 30 minutes on the elliptical -- I was dying to try out my new iPod!!!!
Sulee, this challenge has been kind of a bust for me, too, but I'm glad that we are both here -- imagine where we'd be right now if we just gave up!

Morning!
(i can't believe i'm posting before 6am... agreed to sub for a 6:30 pilates class, double ugh...i am SO not a morning person!)
i just have to say that i feel more committed to making good choices since going to one meeting. That in your face accountability may have something to do with it; or maybe just reaching a point where i said, 'enough, already!' But i made great choices all day and not such bad choices at a party last night!
I agree, Coco...just Imagine where we might be with out this amazing group!!n And please be kind to yourself... i believe you noted in your journal that you are one pound under goal! You Go Girl!!!

Sulee, Coco....this challenge has been a bust for me, too. Up 1.8 this week. I have to admit that I got 1.8 pounds' worth of enjoyment from my food & drink choices, though!
Fortunately, New Year's eve is the holiday I most dislike, so I'm less likely to overindulge. I'm spending it at the house of some friends. I intend to plan to use modest numbers of WPAs, plus my gym's open both NYE and NYD - yay! And if the weather cooperates, there will be a NYD bike ride instead.
I think I need to make some significant changes in my eating plan. Can anyone suggest some "get to goal" goals and strategies for the next challenge?

Sulee - I am proud of you!!!
Vita - I am with you on the "Get to Goal Challenge" - I am 6 pounds away.
I still haven't decided whether or not to WI in Florida tomorrow or not. Unfortunately the next week is still a tough one for me! My DS's 5th B-day is Jan. 1, we are going away with him and friends NYE weekend, his B-day party is Jan. 6 and we have 5 out-of-towners staying with us, and my B-day is Jan. 8. So maybw Jan. 9 things will get back to "normal".
Glad you are all getting to the gym! I've been having some really nice walks here.
Have a good one- Beth

Up .6 for me last night....not too bad as I was expecting another pound lol but that could still be to come at next week's WI, you know how it catches up with you....oh man....but I am back to the exercise and good choice eating, that is until the parties start again....1 meal, it's just 1 meal...
HIHO and hang in there everyone!!! My suggestions for get to goal challenge (I need to get back there!) is plan, Plan, PLAN! PLAN your meals and make them, make and freeze meals and soup, stock your pantry properly, have dairy and fruits/veg on hand so you have all the proper food you need and don't buy any junk! If I do that it's all golden for me because I do get my water and exercise in.

New Year's Eve IS a pretty crazy holiday - I mean, once you're an adult and can make your own decisions, you can drink any night of the week! I don't need a special holifay to imbibe! ;D
That being said, I am using NYD as a day to review the past few months & re-energize myself to Core & staying OP. I've been lazy, there's no two ways about it. Girlie is right - it's all in the PLANNING.
Hope you all have a safe & memorable New Year's celebration.....

Vita,
I guess my only strategy is to pretend like you are starting over as a newbie . . . read those materials, plan ahead, track WPAs, recommit to exercise. I know you are already an avid exerciser. For me, the "new" Core couldn't have come at a better time. It's forced me to evaluate my snacking habits, which I admit were getting out of control.
I took my iPod out for a four-mile walk this morning. That thing is like magic. Who knew that exercising to music could be so darn fun? It was cold and windy; my nose was running; my hands froze. But I just didn't care because I was grooving along to Ray Charles' Genius.

Good Day all,
Well so far this week I have done 2 hours of exercise so I am half way to my weekly goal. Music is great for working out! We had a workout tunes thread running here for a while. I will see if I can find it and revive it.
On a sadder note: My friend and fellow firefighter passed away today from breast cancer. It has been a long sad haul for everyone involved...especially her wife and their son. I am glad that she is finally at peace. Frankly I feel relieved that this part of losing her is over. Watching her die has been one of the hardest things I have had to do in a long time.
I have wanted to do nothing but eat sugar ever since I heard the news which is a clear indicator that I manage stress/grief with sugar. I am hanging on...dinner is soon and then early to bed.
Peace to all, Happy New Year, Cynthia

Hey Cynthia - I am so sorry to hear of your tragic loss. As everyone said to me when my stepmom passed, don't be too hard on yourself with the food cravings right now - this is a difficult time for you and you will need to just get through it.
My thoughts and prayers are with you tonight- Beth

Cynthia, so sorry. I have a friend who began her battle with breast cancer this year, and her courage is inspiring.
Cathy, good advice re: planning, but I already do all that. My problems are:
Sloppy snacking - like Coco, I hope the new snack rules will help.
Portion control - I live alone and basically cook once for the week, so I make multiple portions of each dish. With all that food, I find I have to work very hard to stop at satisfaction. Last night I made 4 portions of a pasta frittata (very tasty!) and it was the very devil to stop at one portion.
Going over my WPA - I have an active social life, and eat out 1-2 lunches and 1-2 dinners a week. I refuse to be limited to restaurants where I can order a plain grilled chicken breast and a baked potato. I can eat that at home! But even with careful planning, I tend to overeat when eating out, and I suspect that I also underestimate WPAs.
Just writing this down has helped me think through it. Hopefully I can be more aware. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
