I lost 1.6 today and I'm extremely close to goal which is scary. I don't want to sabbotage myself this week so I'm going to just try and stay the course. I think part of my loss today had to do with my gain last week not being a true indication of the week, more a result of a big dinner the night before. In any case, I'm excited. Coincidentally, today's meeting topic was on maintenance and what you need to do to stay a successful Lifetime member. I am really excited to get there, it is something I have always wanted to achieve.
Not too much planned for this weekend but it is supposed to be warm and sunny here so we should be able to have some family bike rides and outdoor time.
Do we have an end date for this particular challenge? I'm glad we all are continuing to check in and motivate one another even though this seems to be a quiet time for folks.
Have a wonderful weekend!
-Beth

Way to go, Beth -- don't be scared!! You can do it! Guess what - the journey never ends cuz once you hit Lifetime you keep doin' what you always did ... maybe a few more points but you need the same vigilance. So staying the course is a good plan. But oh the feeling of pride and happiness when you have accomplished your goal! ;D Soon for you, very soon. I forgot when this challenge ends, June 15? I could have looked at page one first... I hope everyone has a great weekend too!

Hey everyone...I'm back from a 2-week trip to France. Up a bit, thanks to the fact that I ate about 50 times more cheese than I do at home (which is a double whammy...the calories and the jolt to the GI system, if you KWIM).
The nice thing about long plane rides is that I can catch up on my reading. I read a book called Intuitive Eating by Tribole & Resch. Everyone needs to read this book!!
The premise is that those of us who've dieted all our lives have created unhealthy food relationships and done more damage to our bodies than good. We can only correct these if we STOP dieting.
Some of the behaviors that demonstrate a "diet mentality": Meticulously counting carb grams Eating only "safe" foods Eating only at certain times of the day Paying penance for eating "bad" foods Cutting back on food Pacifying hunger with coffee or diet soda Limiting carbs Putting on a "false food face" in public Competing with someone else who's dieting Second-guessing or judging what you deserve to eat based on what you've eaten earlier in the day, rather than on hunger cues
The authors believe that if you stop obsessing, and start eating what you like, in time, you'll eliminate all your food phobias. And you won't gain a ton of weight; ultimately, you'll gravitate naturally towards a healthy diet of 90% healthy choices and 10% "play" food. This in turn will allow you to maintain a healthy weight for life.
I can see that during my journey, I've applied some of their recommendations, especially since I found the Core plan. But I suspect that by their standards, I'm still "dieting." It's an incredibly thought-provoking read that I'll return to from time to time.
Sounds like everyone's busy - hope you're all well.

Hey Vita - you didn't tell us what you did on your trip! What did you see? Did you bike?
I am guilty of so many of those bullet points, I must admit. I wonder once I get away from losing mode and onto maintenance if I will feel less fearful.

Hello everyone, Well I have had a few good days. I have actually started to count calories again (using fitday.com) to try and get a handle on what I am actually eating. The snacking definitely adds on the points quickly! Vita it sounds like you had a wonderful trip. We went up to Point Reyes, CA. Beautiful. This is chimney rock with Drake's Bay on one side and the Pacific on the other. We hiked a bit, but were overwhelmed by the extreme winds which were sweeping over the point. Hope you are all well. No change here...not sticking to the plan and thus...not seeing a change on the scale. I read in THE SECRET that what one thinks about and feels becomes manifested in their life. So, by the writer's thinking...if we think fat thoughts we bring fat to us. If we think about food all the time we will manifest too much in our life OR if we are obsessed with our weight weight will become an issue. I have to finish the book and see what I think but...it was an interesting thought to contemplate.

Oh, it was a family visit to my sister's house. She has a new baby, so grandma and I went to see the baby and help out with the kids (her other child is a 2 1/2-year-old tornado).
No biking, regrettably. I was hauling so much stuff for the kids that I couldn't take the extra suitcase with my folding bike, and I wasn't able to borrow a road bike while I was there. But never mind...I'm back on the road today!
Cheering for you, Beth - I know the scary feeling of being really close to goal!

Good morning all! Thanks for all of your cheering. This week should be pretty "normal" - as in no special occasions or anything like that so I'm hoping again to just stay the course and try and do what I did last week which was really change up the variety of food I was eating. With the weather getting warmer I've been really into making tomato, cucumber and avocado salads with balsamic vinegar. I had that for lunch yesterday with a turkey sandwich and it kept me full the entire afternoon!
This morning I did not get a workout in and chances are will not tomorrow morning either. On the flipside though, we did sleep in (if you can call 8:00 sleeping in) and DS slept until 9:00 which was a treat to have some coffee by myself on the couch. It is supposed to be in the 70s today and the 80s tomorrow. We are going out for dinner with friends tonight and I think I'll wear a skirt and sandals - how summery!
Geha - your post is interesting and I do believe that our mind and outlook has a lot to do with this weight loss/maintenance journey. Many days these days I wake up feeling healthy and strong and that keeps me motivated to plan meals and make good choices. And for me, as I'm sure with many others, unfortunately the weather plays a lot into that and I have a very hard time feeling positive energy in the winter. Hooray for the summer - I can't believe May 1 is next week!
Keep HIHOing everyone and enjoy your weekend.
-Beth
PS: On a separate note - we are heading to Disney for the first time with our 5-year-old in October. If anyone has any tips or suggestions on restaurants or anything else please pass them along!

A quick post and then I'll be back later to read. At first glance it sounds like everyone has a ton going on! I just looked at my challenge goals and, guess what? I've essentially accomplished all of them!! I can't believe it! I have stayed away from sugar, followed GHGs, broken through my plateau, reached my personal goal, excercised regularly, and made Lifetime! I was going to go run around the park this morning, but my family just made a decision to blast up the mountain, so that'll be my celebration. I'll be back later to actually read what others have written. Have a great day everyone.

Mighty that is so cool that you have done all your goals. It sounds like it is just becoming part of your day to day life.
It makes me ponder what has become routine for me that I do when all else fails.
Drink water (especially at work) Exercise (especially at work as well) Eat salad without dressing whenever possible Have a light breakfast of shredded (no sugar added) wheat No eating mayo or cheese on sandwiches No drinking liquids that contain calories - except for the occasionaly beer or magarita
I guess part of the postivie thinking is acknowleding what we are doing correctly right now. I also have seen many folks get sucked into 'the secret' thinking. I guess it has its value but should be used in a balanced manner and not expected create miracle. My friend who died of cancer last year was all into the secret and I think it encouraged her not use any modern medicine to help with her treatment (even just for pain). Just my two cents.
We've had a lovely day so far. Swim lesson for my son, then made a bat costume for him for the school play next week, walk down by the pier in Pacifica and now people are reading and taking naps. Life is good.
Peace to all of you. Cynthia

I am checking in now while I can. I am HAPPY to report that I continue to do well so far on my challenge:
My goals: check in at least 3 times a week-- DONE THAT! exercise at least 3 times a week--Got in three, and a few extra brief walks while doing errands. go to a meeting at least every 2 weeks--Went to a meeting yesterday DH was a dear and kept DS#4 so I could go to the meeting and the gym. eat 2 fruits and 2 veggies a day--so far, so good' most days getting in more than 4 F/V for the daystop eating before I feel stuffed--so far, so good most meals Lose some weight--DOWN 0.4!! While not a huge loss, it's the second week in a row with a loss after my steady uphill climb. Besides, I had sushi on Friday afternoon and Popcorn (which tasted salty) to me on Saturday, so if could be an artificially low loss due to water retention. I'm prepared to stay the course and see if it balances out next week

First of all Congratulations Beth on a wonderful loss and being so close to goal. YOU CAN DO IT!!! Welcome back Vita from France, and congratulations on being an Aunt again. Fantastic Karen on reaching all of your challenge goals... have you set any new ones? Xena it's great to have you back here at the challenge. You always encourage me... thanks for posting that beautiful picture. Geha, there is a lot to be said for postive self-talk. I think we all focus way too much on the negative of life. I know that for me when I feel positive, almost everything falls into place. I skipped WI last week. Lots of reasons, but don't feel bad about skipping. I had a good weekend, both food wise and life wise. I'm going to re-paint our 2nd bathroom and started on the prep work yesterday. It feels good to be acomplishing something. HIHO and take care Katie

Katie, have I set any new goals? THANKS for asking the question, because, while I have vague goals, nothing concrete. SO, here goes:
1) Reach my new personal goal of 120 lbs and maintain it. 2) Continue excercising 4-5/week including: 3) Start the Couch-5K running program in the mornings with the dog! 4) Investigate 2 new fitness options: Sweat Bootcamp and San Diego Track Club, and join one of them by the end of this challenge.
Yippee!

Just dropping a quick note. I had WI and I am down 1.5. I'm not sure how I am going to handle the next few weeks. I found out on Friday a good friend went into hospice. I will be flying out this Wednesday to spend an afternoon with her and hopefully again in another week. It brings up so many emotions for what is happening to her and reminding me of my past when my Mom past away. (Just thinking about it makes me start tearing up.) So I may be laying low. It will all depend on how I am feeling. I just feel like I am surrounded by death lately. In the last few weeks I have either know of someone passing or a friend/college was dealing with a loss. I don't remember ever being aware of so much death before in my life. Sorry to be a downer.
Pam
