Seriously. What is it about school stress that makes me want to snack constantly? Anyway I'm there with you in spirit.
Hope the rain eases up and you get to enjoy some outdoor time.

Daily Reflections Thurs April 20thI don't know why I'm having a hard time. I think I'm just not paying attention. But I woke up this morning feeling like failure at this. It's so frustrating, and such an integrated and long-standing (bad!) habit to eat what is comforting. I haven't even been eating badly - just too much of the healthy stuff I've been making. I'm keeping up my activity, but am really bummed out that I haven't had the stick-to-it-iveness that I needed to reach my goal for graduation. Just keep swimming, I guess. Gotta find that balance between quality and quanitity, and get over this damn slump I've been in, at the 29-32lb loss mark. Fluctuating within this range is really starting to irk me.
Can you tell I'm having a bad day? *sigh* Going to focus on eating less, even though eating a lot is satisfying when stressed.
On the up side, I got my resumes sent today. Daily ReflectionsYesterday started off as a bad day, as you can tell - me feeling sorry for myself. But even as I was discouraged with my progress I just made it a fresh day. I really focused on getting back to roots, with only core foods. I made sure I got my exercise. Then last night, DF and I went on a major grocery shopping excursion to restock the freezer, pantry and fridge with fruits, veggies, beans and lean protein. Everything is full again, and I ALWAYS feel better and more in control when I have good food on hand.
It has been slim pickings lately in our house, with few healthy snacks - leaving me to forage for myself and create snacks or meals out of whatever happens to be left over. Since we didn't have a car all last week, and I've been busy preparing my research defense, we hadn't made it to the grocery store.
So last night I bought a ton of fruit, including a mango - love them but never buy them, so it'll be a treat! I also got lots of eggs, and boiled 12 of them. I like them a lot as a fast snack, and I can peel them, toss them in a baggie and keep it in my backpack for my morning snack. A wide variety of veggies for salads, lots of yogurt and cottage cheese in the fridge, the freezer restocked with bags of stir fry vegetables and the pantry with canned fruits, core soups and beans, and I should be good to go!
Renewing faith with a positive attitude. Maybe I can turn it around for WI this week.Breakfast Coffee w/ soy milk Shredded Wheat Soy MilkBananaLunchYogurtHB EggNo time for a full lunch today, w/ the presentation. SnackCottage Cheese & FruitDinnerWent to Chili's for dinner. I made a great entree choice, and had a mango margarita (6pts). Where I fell into trouble was when they brought us free appetizers. Everyone (including me!) was STARVING because we arrived at 6:15, hoping to have a table by 7. Didn't get a table til 8. Because of the wait they gave each couple in our party free appetizers. Did they have any veggies or anything? Noooo. So while we waited the additional 45 minutes after being seated to get our entrees, the table was filled with triple play appetizer platters and loaded nachos, and chips and salsa. I had 5 chips with salsa, 2 loaded nachos, & 2 egg roll 1/2s. It could have been a lot worse; it was hard to have restraint when I was so hungry! Just wanted to stop by and say, GOOD LUCK! on your defense today, Cris.
I know what a stressor that is and what a huge relief it will be when it's over. It really helped me when i went in with the attitude that the committee really did want me to succeed even tho' they were asking SOOOO many questions.
And good for you for continuing to be mindful of your eating in the midst of the academic madness.
Congratulations in advance!

Daily Reflections Well, my research requirements are over. The hard stuff, anyway. There are still some paper revisions to be made before publication and a couple of poster presentations. But the defense went fairly well. There are a few things I would have liked to have done better - the pressure made me nervous. I don't usually get nervous, but all that focus is on you and it's quite nerve-racking. Questioning went well, and now I'm just glad it's over!

Daily Reflections Tuesday, April 25thOK. Playing catch-up here, as I am in every other aspect of my life!
Saturday: I decided to do some container gardening. OK, a lot of container gardening. Not sure what instilled the desire, but it was strong! So I planned the whole thing, drew pictures of where all my veggies would go, and started shopping. So far I have peas planted that will grow up one side of my deck, and cucumbers in hanging baskets that will soon be dangling high above the ground, on a pulley system so I can water them.
Sometime this week (hopefully tonight if it's not raining) I'm going to plant my cold-hardy veggies. Carrots, lettuce and spinach in some pretty baskets I got yesterday at salvation army for super cheap. And I'm going to start my herbs inside this week, too.
Once fear of frost is gone and it's a bit warmer out, 2-3 weeks, I'm going to put grape tomatoes in hanging baskets, green peppers in buckets on each side of the stairs leading up to the deck, pole beans up the side of the deck that the peas aren't on, herbs outside, sugar baby watermelon on a trellis against the far wall on my deck and strawberries hanging on a thin strip of wall that leads up to my balcony. The strawberries are going in a plastic hanging shoe organizer - soil and plants in the pockets will create a cascade effect, or so I envision.
Green and yellow Zucchini are going on yet another trellis up the side of the apartment. And morning glory will be running up my balcony railings that I'm going to extend with a homemade fishing line trellis. This will create a screen effect on the balcony so I don't have to look at the ugly parking lot below when I sit up there.
Along with all the gardening I want to put a bench and a couple of chairs up on the balcony, along with our tiny grill. The bench (probably a board across cinder blocks stacked 2 high and painted a pretty color) will serve as a table/footrest when it's just DF and I, or extra seating if we have someone over.
Pretty ambitious, huh? It didn't sound like this much when it was in my head ...
Sunday was spent shopping and planting. And yesterday was spent at school all day, and it rained last night so I didn't get to work any more on the garden. But I DID finally get the main living space of my house cleaned up. What a mess it has been! Mostly from me just coming home exhausted, dumping all my junk and leaving it wherever. Feels so good to look around and be able to see things like my recliner, my table, my coffee table, and my kitchen counters!! ;D
My weight maintained again. I'm not getting mad about it. I'm accepting the fact that my life is crazy with school right now, and maybe I shouldn't be expecting to be losing scads of weight on top of all the other stress I'm dealing with. I have been exercising like crazy, eating mindfully (though obviously not perfectly) and if that results in only maintenance for now, I'll take it. At least I'm not gaining. And I can focus on eating better in 2 weeks when I'm done with school forever. I tend to have unrealistic expectations so my new goal for the next 2 weeks is to continue maintaining. I'm eating as mindfully as I can without making it a stressor, and if I lose, great! But if I don't I'm not going to cry over it. This is a lifestyle - and a big reality of life is that we have ups, downs and plateaus. And we need to make the best out of each of those scenarios. Finally some good news in this crazy world of mine! Though completely unrelated to weight loss ...
I have a job interview for a pediatric physical therapist position! I submitted my resume to four places last week, and was getting nervous I hadn't heard back - but got an email this morning they were going to call to set up an interview. So the hard part is over - I get some face time! Now I just have to go and get the job! ;D

Daily ReflectionsHi Kate! I will definitely post some pictures! Won't be for a couple of weeks, as I'll just post some from the evening I wear the outfit.
It's been a great day so far - presented my poster at the American PT Association meeting today, and then did a bit of shopping w/ DF. It has been beautiful out all day, bright and sunny and nice and warm, so I put all my plants out to get some good sun, and let the cats out to play in the driveway for a bit. They've always been indoor cats but have had such spring fever we felt mean keeping them in. We were afraid at first they'd wander into the street, as we live on a busy one. But they're really really good about staying right in our yard and on the porch, so we feel better about letting them out. But only when we're planning on being home for a while.
Started marinating some chicken with a homemade marinade of salsa verde, cilantro, onions and lots of garlic with a bit of oil. Going to let them bathe for 3-4 hours before I slap em on the grill, so it should be nice and tender - and flavorful! I think I'm either going to wrap them up in fajitas or make a salad of the grilled chicken, corn, black beans and chunky fresh veggies. We'll see what I feel like after it's cooked!
Hope you are all having a good weekend as well! BreakfastWent out with friends before our poster presentation. Made good choices, despite the french toast calling my name!
