Oh, and about the hummus - I don't make my own. I buy it at a local organic market in tubs - they make all kinds of flavors. My favorite is the dill, I think, although their garlic lovers is also fabulous. They make both regular, and tahini-free versions. I took a quick look online and they don't market themselves beyond our local area, so I guess you're out of luck there! But there must be some recipes online for tahini-free. Even if not, you can reduce the amount with little flavor impact, and not much of a point-hit unless you eat the whole recipe (like I've been known to do! lol)

My prayers for your Mom's successful surgery. It is stressful, and I hope everything goes smoothly.
Congratulations on the move and on maintaining. What a great moving plan. Take care Katie

Hey Katie, thanks for the messages! It's nice that someone always leaves me love when I'm away for extended periods!
UPDATE TIME!
1. My mom is doing wonderfully. The tumor was removed with no nerve damage, the incision is healing beautifully, the anesthesia didn't make her nauseous and most importantly, it is non cancerous. Whew!
2. My fiancee's aunt passed away last week, which created a little more family distress. It was expected as she's had a lifelong illness, but sad nonetheless.
3. We finished our move! We are now in our new apartment and we LOVE IT. We don't miss ANYTHING about the old place. Everything here is an upgrade, as far as we're concerned. We truly couldn't be happier with it!
4. I'm finally coming back to Core. Everything in my life is finally fairly even-keel, now that family crises are over, the move is complete, I'm all unpacked, and life is a bit calmer. I have been eating well, but it's been more on the flex side, because I've been pressed for time to do the core prep. I'm anxious to hit the quinoa, scrambled eggs and oatmeal again! I love cooking in my new kitchen, I have a nice new, much larger fridge in this apt, and I've been having a great time cooking up healthy meals for the last three nights. So far this week we've had lean hamburgers smothered with sauteed onions and mushrooms and 2% cheese (no roll) with oven fries, american chop suey with whole wheat noodles, fresh tomatoes and lean burger, and last night was crockpot rotisserie chicken with healthy herbed mashed potatoes and summer squash sauteed in garlic. It has been great, and DF is loving it as well. He's cooking tonight: salmon with quinoa and broccoli.
That's about it from this end. Oh! And I did meet my goal for the Halloween challenge, the week before halloween. Then my mom had surgery and I ate my way back up a couple of lbs, but hopefully they'll shed quickly! Gonna run and check out the next challenge!

Cris, thanks for the update. I'm so glad that your mom's surgery went well and that there is no cancer. Those are the most amazing words anyone can hear. I'm glad that you are all settled and things are getting back to normal. Take care Katie

Daily Reflections I had such a great weekend! Went out with some friends on Saturday night that I haven't seen since graduation in May. Drove home really late (well, really early Sunday morning), something I haven't done since I was in undergrad, 4 years ago. It kind of wiped me out, but that was great because I took 2 naps on Sunday, and didn't do anything. I mean, NOTHING. I didn't leave the house. I did change into clean pajamas. But pajamas just the same. I didn't clean, take out the trash, cook, or grocery shop. I read almost an entire novel, I slept, I drank coffee, and I watched some TV. I haven't had such a quality, nothing day, for as long as I can remember. Years, at least! I caught up on some much, much needed rest, and was able to go to work feeling refreshed for the first time in weeks. I really needed it, too, because work has been starting to wear on me.
Today proved to be far more effective - I got a ton of progress summaries written at work, and went grocery shopping this evening. Came home and made some baked oatmeal, cleaned the fridge, and used up all of last weeks leftovers in a big pot of soup. Tons of veggies, leftover rotisserie chicken, and garlic out the wazzoo. The kitchen smells great! And I have few quick lunches ready to go - soup in gladware! Hope tomorrow follows todays' lead! I think that I had forgotten how invigorating core can be, too. I've been a long time in that "gotta feel hungry to lose weight" mentality. I caught me telling myself at least 4 times today that it was OK to have some more pineapple, because I was hungry, or that I could have the second glass of milk, because I hadn't had enough calcium yet. Oh how good it feels!Breakfast Coffee Cream of Wheat 2 eggs, scrambledSnackBaked Oatmeal square1C SF instant puddingLunch1C oatmealCottage CheesePineappleDinner2 Bowls of Chicken soup with tons of veggies!2C skim milkSnack1C cooked 94%FF Kettle Corn8oz H20, 16oz Crystal Light__________________________ Dairy: 3/2 F/V: 5/5Protein: 3+/2 Grains: 3 H2O: 6/10WP's:0 WPA Remaining:0 ExerciseNo workout today, unless you count the 60 minutes I spent busting through the grocery store ... Daily Reflections Thanks, Kate! I'm deciding to try to start each day with a positive attitude. Maybe that is the key! Instead of rolling around in bed and grumbling b/c I was still tired, I decided to just get right up and start my day. It ended up giving me an extra 15 minutes! As it turns out, that 15 minutes of moaning and covering my head with the blankets doesn't really make me feel any less tired. So why bother? I had plenty of time to get ready this morning, and even left on time and didn't have to rush! That helps a lot in terms of peace of mind. I feel organized and ready to tackle the day, frazzle-free!
My goals for today are to fix what I missed yesterday - increase my water intake, and get in a real workout. I'd also love to have another completely core day!

Cris, what can I say. Thank you, thank you thank you. I appreciate your perspective on family so much. Our kids are 26, 24, 22, 20. and they have pretty much said what you did, but it helps to hear it again. As parents you want to give your kids the world, but we also realize that, that would have been the absolute worst thing for them. I love your new perspective on starting your day. It does make such a difference what attitude you start out with. Have a fantastic day Katie

Daily ReflectionsI wish that I'd had time for my workout lsat night, because it would have made for another perfect day. But I guess that's real life - unpredictable! Despite the busy night when the non-core me would have picked up a pizza on the way home, I asked DF to cook up the steak and squash in the fridge while I was picking up the table. *pat on the back* I'm glad I did, too, because it was awesome! Another good day on the slate today!
Oh, and I had WI this morning. Maintained, which puzzles me a bit because I've been a model of core behavior. But it could be that TOM is approaching. I'm a little bloated, as my rings are too tight. Whatever it is, I don't care. If I've learned anything it's that this plan works when you follow it! And follow it I shall Breakfast Coffee Cream of Wheat scrambled eggsLunch32oz H2OBaked OatmealYogurtChicken Veggie SoupSnackCottage Cheese2C homemade fruit salad DinnerSnack

Cris, you had a fantastic week and the scale will catch up to that soon. Monthly fluctuations are such a pain in the butt. I'm sure you did get a workout putting together your new table. Lots of lifting, squatting, stretching. How fun to get new furniture. A couple weeks ago DH was going through old paper work and came across the receipt for our table and chairs. It is 27 years old!!! We still use that table and chairs, we got a big chuckle out of still having the receipt. Brought back lots of memories too. Have a great day Katie

SO great to see you back and posting again. I've missed your attitude and bright outlook. ;D
And look, I've permanently changed to a blue font in your honor!
I'm so impressed with the way you're sticking to your plan...and your acceptance of the realities of life. Keep it up...and know that you're encouraging others by doing so.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
