Kally, I DO need a breather!!
I have done nothing but meet, meet, meet, and write, write, write in an effort to wrap up our project and defend it, and get our paper published. The last 8 weeks of this program are proving to be incredibly exhausting.
The good news? I'm too busy to think about food! I went a bit over on WPA last week, but am not beating myself up about it since I got in a lot of exercise and lost 1.5 at WI on Monday, putting me at 3lb lost total since the start of the may day challenge.
I broke my laptop this morning by being a klutz and spilling my shredded wheat & bran and soy milk all over the keyboard. My right shift key and my left arrow key are now out of commission. Small price to pay for such a huge spill - at least my hard drive is intact and the thing is still useable!
I'm still focusing on exercise this week, and am going to buy a bike lock today so I can ride to school again. I was all excited to start that yesterday - pulled the bike out of the attic, lubed the chain, replaced an innertube, assembled the parts, cleaned it up, put on a new seat, adjusted the brakes, hopped on to ride and realized I lost my bike lock. Ugh. So much anticipation for no reward! I had no choice but to drive to school .
The bike it is though, from now on! Once I get my saddle back in shape (meaning, as soon as my butt gets used to having a piece of rubber wedged in it again) I'm going to make a concerted effort to ride everywhere I can, rather than taking the car. It really doesn't take a whole lot longer to ride the bike. A 5-10 min car ride is a 10-15min bike ride, especially if traffic is bad, since the bike can speed right past the lined up cars.
Anyhow, enough for now. I have to go be productive. Little time for dawdling these days. Will try to keep up as best I can when little moments like this pop up!

;D Good morning, ladies! Nice to see a note from you when I logged in.
I'm still having a hard time getting used to typing with the left shift key. I'd never used it before yesterday, so it's like a whole new motor pattern. Maybe I'm building brain cells by using the opposite hand to do a frequent task!
I'm going to aim for getting my food logged today. And I think I'm going to give Sandy's high protein breakfast thing a whirl. I've been having shredded wheat & bran with soy milk every morning, which I love and look forward to every day, but change is good. I'll give it a try and see if I note any change.
I'm also going to get back on track with eating primarily core foods. Going over on my WPA last week while still seeing a decent loss made me a bit complacent at the beginning of this week. Time to get back to journalling, and stop 'figuring I haven't eaten that much'. Maybe I really haven't been eating that much, but inevitably, every time I think that and then start writing down what actually made it in my trap, it ends up being a lot more than I 'figured' I had eaten. Took me two days to catch on to it, which is way less time than it usually does. I think that's a good sign.
OK, gotta plug in a journal and then cook some breakfast. I already went for a nice walk with DF to the bus this morning, so that's a good 30 minutes of exercise to start my day! Even though I haven't been that focused on eating exactly right, I have been getting in that exercise almost every day, 30-60 minutes - usually closer to the 60+ mins side. Baby steps!

I'm making a new goal for myself. This is kind of a scary one. I really need to limit my time 'plugged in'. When I do have downtime, I'm finding myself very unproductive because I'm plugged into something. Internet or TV - I'm wasting time getting absorbed in them. And when I get absorbed, it's really easy to eat mindlessly or to feel hunger more frequently.
Today is my day off from school, and our paper was due today so I had the afternoon free once the paper was handed in. This would normally mean HGTV, TLC and FoodNetwork circuits while I surf the net. Today I turned off the TV, turned on the music, and ended up cleaning my whole kitchen - cupboards, drawers and all! And I felt so much more accomplished than I would have if I'd taken the afternoon 'off' to unwind, being unproductive and wasting time. Now every time I've opened the cupboards or drawers tonight I've been happy. Why am I rotting my time being plugged in?! It's almost an addiction. When I don't have work to do, I plug in. So I'm trying to beat it - and hopefully staying busy on my days off will keep me away from the fridge, too.
Step one was turning off the TV this afternoon. Step two is turning it off right now, since I've been on the couch for about an hour and a half. Took me long enough to realize I was 'rotting' again. I'm going to go work out, and write my resume.

Daily Reflections: Thurs, April 13 I got in a short workout last night after turning off the TV, and started reading a book I've been wanting to start for a while. The Out of Sync Child. About kids with modulation problems because of sensory integration disorder. Pretty much every pediatric patient I see in PT has this problem, so it should prove to be an interesting and enlightening read. I want to finish it before I get my job so I can apply the concepts to my practice.
Going to keep up on the limited TV today. I think life will feel much more fulfilling.

I so need to limit my plugged-in time for exactly the same reasons. Good luck keeping it limited and thanks for the reminder. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Yes, night - the TV cut is already making a big difference. I made a great dinner tonight, and last night too, actually, because I felt I had the time. And then cleaned up after it! This may seem like a simple nothing to most, but for me, it's new. I usually throw something together, plunk down, and stay down. The dinner dishes stay on the coffee table, and I deal with them the next day. Which makes me grumpy because I hate doing dishes in the morning, and I really hate when I'm running late and have to leave them all day because then they pile up the next night. But when I unplug, it seems I have time at night to deal with those little tidbits - and then my morning runs smoother. An added benefit? A friend dropped by unexpectedly today after class, and it was OK - because I'd had time to clean the night before.
And tonight, because I didn't sit down and plan on staying down, I felt more energized - enough to add a run in at the end of the day that I wasn't even planning!
It's only been a couple days, but I'm really not missing the boobtube all that much. I watched a half hour while I was working out today - that's it! Go me! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

I don't have a tv and don't miss it. I work at home and would just pllug in all day long to watch garbage. I am online enough as it is. Congrats on a wise decision.

Daily Reflections Fri, April 14Had a busy day today - surprise! My car battery died again because I left my lights on again. Duh. And I need to get new wheel bearings. I can't wait until I get a new car. Going to make sure one of the features is auto headlight shut off. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)
Food-wise I've done all right, and got my walk in this morning. Need to get in some more activity though. Been sitting on my butt all day in meetings. Hoping DF will walk to the waterfront with me tonight and have dinner looking over the river. Restaurant soup and salad is always more satisfying than when I make it at home...
Update: DF was more than willing to walk to dinner with me! We went for a half hour jaunt downtown and had some Thai, then took the long way back. Had a great time!Breakfast Was ravenous this morning! Daily Reflections Sat, April 15I ended up using a lot of WPA last night after dinner. I'm not sure what went wrong yesterday, but 16 in one day is a lot more than usual for me. I'm thinking it was probably the lunch without protein, and the very light dinner. Spring rolls and soup - though bulky with fiber and water - don't have a whole lot of staying power, I guess. Especially with all that exercise. I should have gone for a more core-friendly treat than PB&J with lots of PB. Better next time, I suppose. Real life happens every once in a while! Only maintained this week. I haven't been quite as good as I had been the previous two weeks, but didn't think that I'd see no loss at all. Kind of a bummer, but just a reminder that I need to pay attention to what I'm eating. Grazing tends to get out of control as stress levels elevate - which is exactly what's happening again this week. Need to get back into the exercise, which I slacked on the past 4 days because it's been cold and rainy out. Even though it's still nippy I'm going to ride my bike to school instead of have a friend pick me up (like I did yesterday b/c of the rain).
And I started my day off with shredded wheat and soy milk again. That seemed to be a ritual that worked for me the previous two weeks. I definitely eat more on the days I skip breakfast.
Hopefully will have time to throw a journal in today, but it'll be another very busy week with my research defense on Friday!
