My flaky computer crashed in the middle of trying to post my update on my goals for the week. I'll try again. - Try different meetings to find a new one that works for me in terms of leader/group dynamics and schedule/locationDidn't really make it to a meeting, as I got there just as they were closing up shop to weigh in. I don't need them to weigh me. I have a scale. I need the content and support of meetings and it was just too crazy of of a week, and I couldn't juggle all the balls this week. A WW meeting was one of the balls that got dropped. Good news for next week (sort of) is that Monday is a holiday for me and I don't have to work, but it's not a WW holiday, so I have a huge window of opportunity to get to a meeting on Monday, and the Monday leader is great.
- Flex for 1-2 weeks to return some much needed structure I'm finishing week 2 on flex. It has helped. I knew myself enough to know I needed the structure. I eat mostly core foods, cause that's what I've come to enjoy and want to eat. I'm not having rip roaring success, but I'm not feeling psychologically ready for core again yet. So, I'll probably stay on flex for another week. Doesn't sound like an impressive committment, does it?
- Journal everything honestly, whether on core or flex Did it.
- Plan meals the day in advance (especially while on Flex), putting in the 8 HG first, then the 'fluff' and WPA Did it.
- Stop for at least 15 seconds before eating anything and consider if it is really something I want to eat now or not With the exception of last night, when I was tired and frustrated, I did this and successfully avoided foods that really wouldn't have contributed to my long term success. Biggest example was Wednesday night when I wound up eating take out fast food with DS#1 after his doctor's apopintment in Manhattan. It was 7:30, neither of us had eaten and the restaurant we have always gone to after his appointments (which has great soups, salads, and healthy fare) went out of business. The next closest Kosher restaurant was a fast food burgers/chicken place. I got a steak sandwich on a club roll. It comes with french fries. I asked for a baked potato instead. And kept asking until they agreed to make the substitution. Would have been easy to give in and eat the french fries.
- Exercise minimum 3x/week cardio and 2x/week Yoga or Pilates and 2x/week strength ;Das you all know, this is where I've really shined (shone?) overall. Though this week I'm only getting one Yoga session and due to some extra work committment I made many weeks ago, I couldn't go to a second class or to Pilates this week. Really looking forward to Yoga today. Did my cardio 4 times, and did strength training 3 times to make up for the missing Pilates, so I consider this a success area!
- Check in here or my ww.com support board every day Done it.
So, hard to see how such a good week resulted in so little success at the scale. Though, thinking about it, I did lose 1.6 lbs in 2 weeks, which is just under a pound a week on average. Trying to look at the long view, and not be discouraged by a week, that by my stated goals was a good one. PS. Wrote this post while using my light therapy box for the first time. It arrived last night and fits perfectly by my computer, so my plan is to use it each morning while posting here, journaling on e-tools or checking in with my ww.com board group.

Congrats, Vita, Mikki, and Ema. You are all doing a fantastic job. I'm down a very undeserved .2 lol I didn't make great Core choices this week, but did really try to stick to eating to satisfaction. Not buying ice cream helped, also having broccoli, cauliflower, celery and baby carrots cleaned and in a large tupperware helped. I am a nibbler while fixing supper and having the veggies cut up was much better to have to nibble than the usual crap. I've been really good about making a menu and buying groceries accordingly. Helps for the budget as well as my Core plan. It's great to see so many participating and feeling strong. Keep it up Ladies Katie

HIHO and good morning...it is really motivating to read all your posts.
I lost 1.6 last night so all I can say is work the program and it will work for you!! ;D ;D Yes, cooking and having good things to eat in the fridge/freezer does help! You know, planning. LOL so I guess I did follow my plan for the challenge this week, because I got in GHG too. I am happy. Now to continue on I am going veggie/fruit shopping tomorrow, and getting some frozen chicken/pork out of the freezer and cooking on Sunday!
Everyone continue to rock on and have a good day and weekend!

Morning Valentinas,
Here's my weekly recap. Sorry I've been a bit of a writing slacker... the first week of school is always a killer, time-wise and this semester....OY... I am so over committed, it's going to be a challenge till the end!
+ to attend weekly WW meetings I did it! I went to a meeting. I was rushed so i didn't stay long but i got weighed and this leader, whom I'd never seen before was SO non-judgemental that it's clear to me that I'll be seeking her out! oh and yes I'm up .8 ++ to exercise each and every day Not so good! AGAIN! This time it's because I sustained an injury dancing and it's VERY frustrating to me... +++ to eat in a core way Successfully added more protein and i feel like I'm eating less but that feeling isn't substantiated because I've not been very faithful about.... the next goal ++++ to journal everything, even if i go over weekly points or it's painful for me to admit to Alas, no +++++ to Lose weight, period not yet... but i will!!
So I had a little epiphany as I left the ww meeting yesterday...inspired by a few things but a lot by Ema's two weeks on flex. I think i really am NOT in touch with my satisfaction/satiation sensations. I know I've been eating well, I know I've been eating less. But i gained weight. I think i need to see what "less" really means... as compared with regular. And to see if my portions are so out of whack that this is what's maintaining my voluptuousness!
So I'm not saying that I'm doing flex, Rebel-Girl here has to be careful with proclamations! But I am going to be mindful of portion sizes as i eat my core way...just to see.
Have a great week everyone!! I do read at least everyday... of everyone's wonderful progress and accountability and revelations. You are all so inspiring!

Hey fellow challengers-
At WI today I was exactly the same! The first half of this week with our houseguests and B-day celebrations I had a lot of bites of cake, snacks, etc. but I exercised Monday-Thursday and was on plan the second half of the week so like Ema I was hoping to eek out a small loss at the scale. It is what it is, however, and I'm onto a new week!
-following the new Core snacking guidelines (did well with this most of the week) -writing down WPAs (nope - definitely a plan for this week) -trying a new recipe each week (YES! Loved the Rosemary Chicken in the crock pot).
Additional goal for this week: back to spinning (YES! Twice!!)
And my biggest success of the week (thanks to info and encourangement from Ema and a little friendly competition from Barney) was completing 2 of the first 3 days of Week 1 of Couch to 5K. I am excited to see if I can really do a 30 minute non-stop run at the end of this.
Challenges for the upcoming week: Saturday night a romantic dinner celebration with my DH for my B-day. I have the menu of the restaurant on-line and I should be able to manage okay. I'm looking forward most of all to sharing a nice bottle of wine and relaxing more than the food. Otherwise it should be a "normal" week.
My plan this week is to exercise Sunday-Thursday and hope for a loss at Friday WI.
Girlie, Kate & Ema - way to go on your losses!
Sulee - way to go on being honest and accountable! The scale will soon follow.
Cynthia - hang in there - I'm sending hugs your way.
Night - WHERE ARE YOU??
Hope everyone has a great Core weekend! I'm thinking of you all as I drink my SF/NF Cinnamon Dolce Latte (try one if you haven't - they're awesome!!)
-Beth

Hi everyone! Here's how I did this week on my goals:
Track WPAs, even if I go over. -- Yes! Exercise 4 times per week. -- Yes! Went to the gym or ran outside every day this week and am planning a six-mile run today. Post here or in my journal at least twice a week. -- Yes! Eat only to satisfaction. -- I have to say I've done pretty well (for me) on this! My one downfall was Thursday when I got into some Wheat Thins, but I counted the WPAs and moved on.
I am down one pound from last week, but my weight fluctuates all month long. Next week's weigh-in is the one that will really mean something . . .

Hi there! I am back from my oh-so-exciting meetings . . . UGH! Do they set out to make them as BORING as possible?! I was not so good with my eating while I was there, but since I had been so good before I left, I am still down 1 lb. (This is since I'm back from vacation and starting the challenge, so a little over 1 week). My only real goals this time were staying committed, staying on CORE, and consistently losing. I was committed (other than these darn meetings), I stayed on CORE (other than a bit at these darn meetings) and I lost! So, I'll gladly take 1 lb! Beth - awesome on getting to day 2! I start tomorrow, so I will keep you posted . . . I hope that you are all well. Have a wonderful weekend!

Well, more children vomiting stories. DS#4 crawled into bed with us (a frequent occurance) and semi-woke up wimpering when I made a mid-night trip to the bathroom (a frequent occurance), followed by DH doing the same (we're soooo middle-aged!). Realized as I tried to settle him down that he was still mostly asleep and about to vomit. Sat him up so he didn't aspirate, which was good, but had a miserable mess to clean up. Happened again a few hours later. While I'm tired, I'm glad his half-asleep wimpering woke me up so I could get him sitting up. He's asleep again now, and I'm hoping he's OK. Had hoped to take him to the gym kids room while I worked out and let DH have some quiet time, but we may have to rething that plan. Hope it doesn't mean my losing my workout.
Got some payroll tax paperwork done while sitting by my lightbox this morning, for the accountant who's coming by for it tonight. Wanted to have it ready in advance as DMIL is coming for a visit this afternoon and staying overnight.
Have a good day.

CHECK-IN:
Hello everyone,
Okay I am doing my first check-in for this challenge. My actual WI is tomorrow but I need to refocus and make sure I am clear on what I am doing this week.
No Sugar - I have been eating sugar the last few weeks but not too over the top. No Snacking - Snacking has been at a minimum but still definitely doing it. No Seconds - YEP been not doing that as well. 240-300 minutes of exercise a week. - Here is my saving grace. I have been very good about exercise and for this reason alone have only gained a lb in the last two weeks.
For the upcoming week my goals are:
To really stick with the above goals and check in everyday in my journal as to whether I am achieving them. I am also going to focus on having the same breakfast everyday.

OK, I DID it! Day 1 of C25K!! I even got DF to the gym with me. He, of course, is FAR too manly to start slowly and do the program, so he just ran next to me and *killed* himself! He used to be a pretty good athlete, hockey player type, so it's tough for him to have to start slowly at anything! (though he hasn't played hockey in over 10 years). Oh well - he'll pay for it tomorrow! I have Day 2 slotted for Wednesday.
I'm having a decent eating weekend - not perfect, but I'm counting points and tracking anything non-CORE, so I'll see how the rest of the week plays out and play with points on other days to stay within my budget.
Happy Sunday, everyone! Barney

Barney, great job on both maintaining a loss this week despite those meetings, and on starting the C25K!
Cynthia, you are doing great. You have a lot on your plate right now; take care of yourself.
Ema, I can definitely relate to the vomit-in-bed story; when my kids were little we had quite a bit of that too. Why is it that they want to be in OUR beds when they barf?
And Cyd, you'll do great! You can get into the groove.
Ema, I also want to tell you that you've inspired me with your dedication to exercise over these past few weeks. I'm working up to those 28 APs/week (had 26 this week! Woo-hoo!!!!!). My running goal has actually made exercise fun again.

Barney--great job starting the C25K today. It's pretty exciting the first few weeks, just knowing you can get through the intervals. Then it stays exciting as you do longer and longer runs. I did the first of my week 8 couch-to-5K workouts today. It was especially challenging, as my iPod crashed when I turned it on, and so I didn't have any podcasts for running prompts or even any music to distract me. I ran at a slightly slower pace than at my last run, and just used my HR monitor watch and the time on the treadmill to time the warm up and 28 minute run. I had the visual from the food network that is broadcast in the gym, but no sound. Not very effective distraction. Nevertheless it was unbelievable! I RAN FOR 28 MINUTES WITHOUT STOPPING! How cool is that? It was hard, but I wasn't ready to collapse at the end. I walked with some elevation in the treadmill at 3 MPH for about 10 minutes after the run to cool down.
I keep thinking about whether I'm enjoying the running. I am, and I'm not. I'm enjoying being able to do it. I'm enjoying progressing. I'm not sure I actually enjoy the running, though. I don't hate it, by any stretch of the imagination. It's just still so much work that I'm not yet at the point where I would do it for fun. I do see that I'm able to do so much more than I could even two weeks ago, and I can see getting to the point where I can do this without it being so effortful. I can see gradually getting faster, though I can't yet imagine being at the 10 minute/mile pace the C25K program describes as running pace. I did the last week 7 run at 4.5 mph, and did today (which was 3 minutes longer running) at 4.2 or 4.3 MPH. Combined with my warm up and long cool down, it was 3 miles.
Eating wise, I didn't exactly have the day I planned, but it wasn't a bad day, either. No mindless munching, and protein and veggies or fruit at every meal, and plenty of water. Never have trouble with my water on days I run, LOL!
Have all the ingredients for the chicken breasts with rosemary that Beth posted (I have the same cookbook), and plan to make that for dinner tomorrow night.
Coco, thanks for telling me that I've inspired you with my exercise. I'm stunned that I'm doing so well with it myself.

Forgot to mention, a friend of DS#1's showed me how to reset the iPod, so I will know what to do if it crashes again, and I should have music and/or podcasts for tomorrow. No, not one of his 4th grade classmates, a college student who comes to work with him through a program for kids on the spectrum.

Sounds like everyone had a good weekend!
Yesterday I finished the first week of C25K and I agree with you Ema, I'm not sure I'm enjoying it but I like the fact that I'm able to do it. Week 8 and 28 minutes seems a very long time away - congrats on getting there! I'll start Week 2 on Wednesday.
The public schools are off today but my DS is at a Jewish pre-school so he has school today, so I'll be able to go to my spinning class at 9:30. I hope to have finally found a good chili recipe that I'm going to try out tonight with some extra lean ground beef I had in the freezer. If anyone tries those chicken breasts let me know!
We got a little bit of snow here but not as much as expected, thankfully.
Hope everyone has a great day!
-Beth
