Ema - I enjoyed reading about your day, it sounds like you are doing awesome and making great choices.
Yesterday I had a completely Core day! I was lacking in the water department though and exercise, but I'm not going to be too hard on myself about that this week with school vacation. I NEED to stay Core this week, my WPA's were wasted on junk this past weekend.
My criticism of the day: Yesterday for a snack I had one of the WW chocolate smoothies with milk and some crushed ice and it just tasted so artificial to me. Why WW is pushing these as a snack as opposed to FF plain yogurt is beyond me. Today I'm going to try and do a smoothie with milk and frozen fruit instead. I am really trying to stick to the new giudelines and see if they make a difference. I have a large split pea soup in the fridge that I am taking a little from each day and also have lots of fruits and veggies on hand.
Hope everyone has a great day today!
-Beth

Beth, try making your own smoothie with skim milk, one tsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder, and sweetener of choice (and ice of course) -- or a frozen banana! Personally, the one tweak I am making to the "new" plan is treating unsweetened ff yogurt like milk -- same calories, plus the live cultures have some true health benefits. If I don't eat yogurt for a snack, I'll just never eat it.

Coco - that is exactly what I did today... I just had FF milk, frozen peaches and fresh blackberries with a little bit of SF vanilla syrup and it tasted much healthier and fresher. I think I agree with you on the yogurt because I find I am not eating it much either.
I was not all Core today - I did have some sushi and a little bit of a soft pretzel. Dinner is steak and baked potato on the grill with brocoli - YUM. I'm off to have some water and the rest of my smoothie.

I hear you on the WW smoothies. I migrated from WW smoothies to homemade a while ago. I'll probably end up tossing the few packets of WW stuff that's been sitting in the cupboard. Here's my first check-in on the challenge: Follow the new snack guidelines - yes, except for one day when I had some leftover boiled shrimp.Stay within my WPA WITHOUT the use of creative accounting practices. Went 2 WPA over, but didn't get creative!Eat only to satisfaction, and practice safe leftover management - into the freezer! Yes - and I proudly froze 3 servings of tamale pie. Someone needs to remind me randomly to pull one out and eat it. Use the following phrase as often as needed: "Do I want to eat this, or do I want to get to goal?" Used it a couple of times...and I need to do it until it becomes automatic.Oh...and I dropped .4 at WI today. It's in the right direction, so I'll take it!

Hello, lovely ladies! I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and a happy New Year! DF and I just got back tonight from a glorious 12-day vacation . . . (I can feel the relaxation seeping out of my every pore as I type and think of going back to work!) . . . we spent the holidays with his parents in Phoenix and then vacationed by ourselves in Mexico for 8 days. YUMMY!!! I have not gotten back on the scale yet, and I can't imagine the very thought of it! Suffice it to say, that we had a LOT of fun, and I forgot every CORE rule and other HG known to man, woman and child!!! But, alas, look at me . . . here, back, and ready to rock and roll!!! DF and I are both feeling seriously guilty and about sick with ourselves! We've both committed to some serious healthy eating in 2007! My goals for the new challenge? Oh, I really don't know. I guess just the simple goals this time of staying committed, staying on CORE, and consistently losing like I did in 2005. If I can lose 1-2 lbs a week, then I'm thrilled. I did it in 2005, so I know that I can do it again!!! My only real challenge between now and V-day is a set of 4-day meetings next week when I have to be out-of-town and have no contol over what I eat. I'm stuck with what they give me. Othewise, I am in complete control and I have no excuses. I'll re-set my "main" ticker tomorrow after I weigh myself (UGH!) I'll re-set the bottom ticker as my new challenge ticker too! I'm still gunning for goal, though clearly not by V-day! Good luck to everyone! I know that everyone can reach their goals! OK, so it's Thursday morning and I've done a WI here at home (I only WI at home, so it's the same scale I've always used). I'm only up 4 lbs. I'll be honest, I expected MUCH worse, so I'm not all that unhappy. My real WI day is Saturday/Sunday (depending on how busy I get to WI before I eat, etc.) I'll see about whether I WI this week or not. Have a great day! Barney

Good morning everyone! I'm encouraged by everyone's resolve and focus on their goals. You folks are so motivating! Well, WI last night was ugly, but not really unexpected and I'm determined to get back in control (and back to goal) again. So far I'm focusing on the 8 HGs, portion control and tracking what I eat (I use the planner on WW's site, which I really like for the accountability). My next step is to pull back on the non-core foods that I've been indulging (over-indulging??) in over the holidays. Got my recipes out and ready to prep the grocery list! Have a great week everyone!

Hi all! It's a rainy day here in Northern California but I am determined to be out and about today. Mostly, I WILL go to the gym today!
Went out to dinner last night and ordered dry-grilled salmon, plain baked potato, and steamed broccoli. Trust me, I could tell that they followed my directions. It was a little spartan, but I comfort myself by knowing that I never get to eat salmon at home, b/c nobody else in my family likes it. I used some points on a beer and a couple of vanilla Coffeemates in my coffee at the show afterwards. We saw Nunsensical -- another Nunsense musical which was hysterical.
Vita -- good for you for freezing those leftovers! I'm also inspired by all of you who are back from vacation and determined to get back on track. Barney, good luck at your meetings when you can't control what they give you to eat. Now there's a challenge!

Good day everyone,
Well I have been being just okay with food. My current goals are my no sugar, snacking and seconds plan. I have been kind of hitting and missing the last few days so today I am really going to focus on making that happen today.
I did have a good moment yesterday. I was walking around grocery shopping and had been craving sugar intently for the last couple of hours. I wound up standing in the baking aisle thinking, "What is really going on here because I am definitely not hungry. I just had a huge lunch so the sweet thing must be about something else." The more I stood there the more I saw that my feelings were really about the upcoming funeral for my friend and grief. Suddenly I could see that the brownies were on one side of the aisle and the feeling were on the other and neither of them were in reality connected. It was definitely a WOW moment.

I am intrigued by the "freezing leftovers" discussion here! (Amused and intrigued!) I live by the freezer! How do you survive without it?!?! Before I met DF, I cooked for 5, ate 1 portion and then always had ready made Core meals at the ready! I cooked 2-3x per week, froze 3-4 portions of each, and had the freezer OVERFLOWING with chicken, beef, pasta, fish, soups, stews all cooked and ready to pop in the oven as if they were microwave dinners (but far healthier and all Core). I don't know how anyone can possibly make it on this diet otherwise! Sometimes, I would cook 2-3 dishes all in one day (on a lazy Sunday) and just be done for the week. I would throw together a salad when I got home from work and pop a dinner in the microwave. Now with DF at home, I usually cook M-Th. What we don't eat, we freeze and eat on the nights that we either get home too late, or a week that I don't get to the grocery. I will purposely freeze a portion instead of eating leftovers the next night just to be sure that we have enough dishes in the freezer for these nights! We love those nights, to be honest -- no cooking or doing the dishes!!! Non-leftover/freezer-ites, you are really missing out on a great opportunity here!!! Barney

Hi hi and happy new year all! I've missed being in touch with you.
Did you hear that there are FOOD SHORTAGES in SAN FRANCISCO?!!!!
That's because I ate my way through that city. ;D
So I gained 7+ pounds, but did so with a clear conscience. Now ready to rededicate myself to the core path, grasshopper. Like many of you, I am avoiding number goals for this challenge. Instead I vow to:
Increase my activity--shoot for 2x a week minimum. Consider my food choices carefully--beforehand. Stay within core/snack/35WPA range
Cynthia, I love the personal goals weekly check-in! And I also love that it means less work for the person maintaining the challenge. Yay all around!
Hugs to you all--cheers on your successes and nods of understanding about the challenges of the season. We're back, we're fierce, and we can't be beat!

Barney - I agree with you wholehaeartedly! Those frozen meals have been a big part of my success.
Night - SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU!!
Cynthia - what a breakthrough. Does hard candy help with your cravings? I really like the Life Saver sugar free Creme Savers.
I also must share with you all about Starbuck's new Cinnamon Dolce latte that you can get w/ sugar free syrup, skim milk and no whipped cream and it is SPECTACULAR. I wouldn't lie to you about food. They are advertising it quite a bit.
Congrats to everyone on getting your New Year's weigh in's out of the way (mine is tomorrow) and for stocking the fridge and pantry with Core foods. WE CAN DO THIS!!!
-Beth

HIHO everyone. I've been a naughty girl and the scale registered a 2.2 gain. Funny how I feel now compared to when I've been eating clean. In a weird was I was glad to see the gain. Sometimes I eat terribly and don't register a gain and it lulls me into a false sense of what I can get away with. So to have a gain helps me get motivated back to reality. So my goals for this challenge is to get back to my personal goal weight of 165, then start working towards an additional 5lbs down. I don't have a time schedule for this addidional 5lbs, but really feel that it's time to head that direction. My plan for reaching my goals are to follow the healthy 8's, and concentrate on the new Core plan guidelines. IT's great to see so many feeling strong and motivated. We're on our way. Katie

Good morning everyone - so great to "see" you all again! ;D
Hi, Night! Hi, Katie! Hi, Beth! Hi, Barney! Hi, Coco! Hi, Cynthia! Hi, Mikki! Where's Sulee?!
I so agree with cooking and freezing. When..I said when...I do it, it helps so much. I went food shopping last night and I have a list of things I'm cooking and freezing tomorrow. I don't food shop every week though, except for maybe fruits/veg and soy milk, so that's my problem...even though I do it on-line I hate food shopping and tend to do it every paycheck (approx. 2 weeks)...so when the food supply is running low / the freezer gets unstocked...I don't eat as well. Duh!
No one is naughty...we ate more than usual, we were mindful that we were doing it, we enjoyed our holidays, we're better off than we were last year at this time...and we're all motivated toward our goals!! We rock!!
