ok so my goal for may is to finish my first half marathon and to earn 10,000 precha points...tougher since school is out and i won't be dancing everyday! But i suspect 13 miles of walking and running will give me a little boost on the points!
Have a great active day!

Thanks, sulee, for getting us started.
I'm in for May. I'll check back later after my WW meeting. I'll post my April results and May goals then.

Hi, everyone. I'm definitely in for May. My goal is to complete my Active Lifestyle Award. Then I'll take a look at points and decide where to go from there.

Hey all!! I finally took the time to sign-up for the pres. challenge!! I have a question!! How do you record a spinning class?? Stationary bikes at high intensity?? Just wondering.......Monica

Hi Monica,
I would say that you could list spinning as "cardio machines" and then use the "vigorous" descriptor. That would give you over 600 precha points for an hour which seems ok ( to me, anyway) Using bicycling/vigorous seems not quite right as you aren't dealing with the elements like wind and friction, beyond the resistance of the wheel.
What I always need to remember is that precha points DON'T necessarily correlate with AP's so if you are counting those you'd need to go to Calories per Hour.com or use your slider.
All of the above is just hyperbole on my part... not an official anything... but maybe it'll help to answer your query.

Monica, yep - stationary bike at vigorous intensity. That's how I record a spinning class.
For the record, I record outdoor cycling as moderate intensity.

Now that I have discovered the Pres Challenge, I'll have to check in here. For this month, just to report points, to see how much I am doing, still early for me to tell, then, maybe next time, to make a goal. Great idea!

hi prechaz!
looks like people are staying active. I know for me the warmer weather helps me to want to be outside.
I just read in Runner's World something about needing to put in 20...yes that's 20 miles per week, walking or running if you want to use it as a weight loss adjunct. That was sobering for me. I've been know to do maybew 12-15 miles... that was 3 miles 4-5 days a week but i guess my frustratration with any real benefit--waistline-wise-- was that this was too few miles. Not to say that there's no benefit to WHATEVER we do physically, particularly for those who have gone from zero exercise to some exercise...well BRAVA to that! But for those who are striving to see the exercise as a way to augment weight loss (that would be ME!) it was good information.
Now that i'm prepping for this half marathon...walking and running... i've boosted my daily routine to at least 4 if not 5 or more miles a day and i feel leaner. The scale isn't moving much but I'll bet i get a nice weigh in Monday after going 13 miles! So i/m going to try and stick with 4 and 5 mile days once the event is over and see it it helps me to drop these sticky pounds. Really, 4 miles, takes less than an hour even if I'm walking so it IS do-able.
Keep at it precha gals!

I had a good workout with my trainer yesterday and we made a plan for after vacation to up my strength training and really burn the fat.
Today I earned my third Silver Award and now I'm 56% of the way to my third Gold Award.
How's everyone else doing?

Hello prechaz... I am absolutely thrilled to tell you that I just completed my first 1/2 marathon...13.1 miles. My LOFTY goal was to run 5 minutes out of every 15...or about 5 minutes per mile--my pace is usually between 14-15mph but I've NEVER walked that far. Instead I ran 93 out of 192 minutes. that's nearly 1/2 of the time spent. I really was feeling strong at the beginning... running 75 of the first 85 minutes at the beginning but I have to say at about mile 9...whew I was getting tired.
But I finished it and earned over 1000 precha points for the effort. Now off to yoga to try and stretch away some of the tightness in my legs and back!!
Keep up the good work everyone one!

whew our precha challenge is down to just a a few of us. Let's not be deterred by our small numbers prechaz!! Keep exercising and logging in. Remember, we are worth the effort of our exertions. I have updated my tracker and though i'm close i think it will be a struggle to meet my 10,000 point goal. I have much travel this month, including 2 days in the car starting tomorrow. But i will persevere. Hang in there everyone!!
ps I'm about to sign up for the Phoenix Rock and Roll (half) Marathon...doing the half on Sunday was such a boost I'm going to try it again.

I'm still here! I don't post much, because I don't struggle with my exercise goals as much as with my eating goals. But I have 5106 points so far in May, and I need 5522 points to get to 45,000 and a silver award (since January 1). WTG on that 1/2 marathon, Sulee! I can't even imagine .
