Despite a little rain and wind, the occasional cat fights between the kids, and a close encounter with a rattlesnake, we had a fun-filled few days camping in the desert and the mountains. I ate simply and used WPAs (6 in all) wisely on things like ff flavored yogurt (all I could find out there!) nuts/seeds and whole wheat bread. I earned and ate 2 APs a day with light to moderate hiking and bouldering, and I'm eating pizza now (15), so that leaves me 14 WPAs for the rest of my week. My favorite Core coup was this: sitting in the car during a rainstorm at Joshua Tree. DH and kids had a picnic under a rock, shivering and watching the rain fall. I enjoyed a moment of warmth and solitude and whipped up an impromptu goulash of blackbeans, tuna, papaya, and avocado dressed with fresh lime juice. I even took a picture of it thinking I would upload it so you all could appreciate my mountaineer's fortitude . I realized on this trip how important grains are for rounding out a meal. The only acceptable ones I had were some whole wheat mini bagels, which I ate in moderation with my salads or with avocado. I got plenty of protein, which certainly holds the blood sugar steady, but those grains, boy do they fill you up.

good ideas on camping. Something I often do is buy a Primo veggie soup or one of those type and add a can of corn to it and heat it up. I sometimes add a bit of couscous or whatever. That and a piece of bread and that is a camping dinner with very little fuss.

I'm such a dork, Kally. I didn't even thing about canned soups. Duh. And couscous...what a great idea. It's funny, because I keep things like that at work for quick, nutritious lunches. Next camping trip I'll plan better, though I guess I didn't do too badly this time.
Food today: coffee, oatmeal, egg, ff milk, baby carrots, popcorn, 1/2 banana, ff cheese, ff refried beans, and salsa in a 0-pt tortilla, quinoa and garbanzos, 1 pizza crust (1) beef stew (3), potato, maybe pudding or a ww shake; we'll see.
5 servings F/V-- iiiii 2-3 servings nonfat dairy-- ii 6(8 oz.)glasses water-- 3L 1-2 servings lean protein-- iii Daily vitamin(s)-- y Limited sugar / alcohol-- y 2 tsp. healthy oil-- y Choosing whole grains-- y Eating only to satisfaction-- y Daily Exercise-- kettlebells

Thanks for all the kind words in my journal yesterday. You are so right about exercise! I haven't been doing enough and I miss it. You're right on about PMS and exercise, too. You're ALSO right about grains. I wasn't getting enough--and it makes a huge difference. Wishing you a fantastic week.

hiya K...
thanks for your empathy in my journal when i decided to lay off for while. it seems to be helping for the time being so I'll just be reading everyone else's for while more!
Brave woman...camping where there might even be a hint of a rattlesnake. My idea of camping is, well... not camping! I am SUCH a city girl!
Keep up all your great work!

Oh such a chaotic, frenetic, endless day. On days like this I feel like I should earn APs just for getting through them. I stayed very late at work and missed my book group, which was a baked potato potluck (host provides the spuds, guests bring toppings). I had my ff sour cream all ready to go! Boo hoo. For a consolation I had two slices of raisin Ezekial toast when I got home. How silly that toast (and sprouted grain toast at that) makes me feel downright subversive! Well, had I gone to the group tonight I probably would have indulged in the french silk pie and cookies and bad bad potato toppings and would now be feeling like a failure, so I'll look at the silver lining, I'm OP!!
Food today: coffee, 2x hardboiled eggs (a pink one and a purple one), banana, oatmeal, milk, beef/bean/veggie stew (3, just because I don't think it was the leanest beef), carrots, popcorn, diet pepsi, ww shake w/milk, toast (2) w/ mashed avocado, shredded wheat, more milk.
5 servings F/V-- iiii 2-3 servings nonfat dairy-- iii 6(8 oz.)glasses water-- not enough, maybe 1.5 L 1-2 servings lean protein-- iii Daily vitamin(s)-- y Limited sugar / alcohol-- y 2 tsp. healthy oil-- y Choosing whole grains-- y Eating only to satisfaction-- y Daily Exercise-- none (unless a crazy 14 hour work day running my butt off counts)

Tired and a little depressed and anxious today. This is where I start slipping, binging and bailing. Got to keep my focus, stay the course. Weigh-in tomorrow, though I have to do it at home to start with... going on a field trip with DS's 1st grade class during meeting time. Maybe I am subconsciously thwarting to sabbotage my weigh in? (what a redundant sentence!) Hmmm...
Coffee, ff milk, oatmeal, hardboiled egg, banana popcorn bean/veggie soup, 1/4 c. potato salad (4), grapes, pretzels (2) chicken, cauliflower, salad, quinoa
5 servings F/V-- iiiiii 2-3 servings nonfat dairy-- i 6(8 oz.)glasses water-- 2L 1-2 servings lean protein-- iii Daily vitamin(s)-- y Limited sugar / alcohol-- y 2 tsp. healthy oil-- y Choosing whole grains-- y Eating only to satisfaction-- y Daily Exercise-- 2

Looks like I'm down a pound, maybe a pound and a half. I'll wait to change my ticker until after I get on a WW scale, probably on Saturday. Yesterday was such an emotional day. Today seems better. Coffee, eggs, egg salad (made with nayonaisse, no points) on ezekial bread (2), (enough with the hardboiled eggs, when will they be gone?!) carrots, avocado, big salad at an Italian restaurant w/fixings worth, I dunno....5 pts? That sounds good (5), 1 teeny slice of the most delicious pizza (6). Pudding. 5 servings F/V-- iiiii 2-3 servings nonfat dairy-- not really! just a little in my coffee. Add: pudding 6(8 oz.)glasses water-- not enough, getting more now 1-2 servings lean protein-- iii Daily vitamin(s)-- y Limited sugar / alcohol-- y 2 tsp. healthy oil-- more, on the salad Choosing whole grains-- not so great. ezekial bread is sprouted grains, though Eating only to satisfaction-- y Daily Exercise-- walking walking walking. but no points taken wpas 13/35, 22 remaining aps does chasing a bunch of 7 year olds around the Wild Animal Park get me any APs?

A pound, that is great. I would settle for a pound a week. I think chasing kids counts for points too!

Thanks, Kasha. So, how many points DOES chasing kids getcha? Do you get more if they're ADHD? Do you get more if you have to carry their lunches?! Oy. Well, I'm recovered from yesterday and back to work today.
Food: coffee, nf milk, ww shake, oatmeal, leftovers for lunch (chicken, quinoa, cauliflower), apple, popcorn, pudding, carrots, steak, brocolli, a little bit of yam. Done!
5 servings F/V-- iiiii 2-3 servings nonfat dairy-- ii 6(8 oz.)glasses water-- 2L 1-2 servings lean protein-- ii Daily vitamin(s)-- y Limited sugar / alcohol-- y 2 tsp. healthy oil-- y Choosing whole grains-- y Eating only to satisfaction-- y Daily Exercise-- oh no...I'm losing it! Got to get back in the zone!

a gazillion aps at least. Well at least that many thoughts of appreciation from the school staff that you helped out by doing some of the chasing.

Can I use some of the gazillion aps to cover the li'l binge I just had?
Food today: Coffee, eggs, oatmeal, applesauce, baby carrots, tuna/ff greek yogurt/couscous mish mash, flour tortilla (4...that's what the ww book says, is this true?!), popcorn then...a spinning class, a really really intense one (at least 6 aps) then...salad and Oh no!!! chinese food, lots of it!, and jelly beans and gum drops for crying out loud!!!! I don't even want to consider the points I just ingested. Certainly what I had left, probably more. Aaargh...but it was SO GOOD!!!!

Everything will all balance out. You are doing a great job of being on plan and keeping track of what you are doing. Someone once said, not sure if here or at my meeting, "face it and move on" such great advise. Have a great day and take care Katie

Yes, Katie, excellent advice. I had a very nice binge yesterday; it had the desired effect (I had felt it coming on for a few days). I am not beating myself up, for better and for worse, and it wasn't even that bad, all things considered. Now, onward -->
Food today: coffee w/ nf condensed milk, 1/2 c oatmeal, lentil soup, 2 eggs and soy cheese, pudding, baby carrots, apple, all-core leftovers for dinner with salad and lots of veggies.
