Mon 3/7
Breakfast: coffee w/skim milk eng muff w/ pb (3 pts)
Ooops, forgot to eat the orange I had sitting on my desk.
Lunch: tuna w/lettuce on ww bread (1 pt) ff yogurt 2 mini-pieces of cheese pizza (5 pts) Snack: giant navel orange

Notes: Whoa, I didn't realize I have had NO fruits or veggies today -- I wouldn't have allowed myself the two little slices of pizza had I known that!
Okay, enough is enough. Time to get a handle on adding more F&V's in earlier in the day, and keeping extra starches out. I know I've got plenty of WPAs available, but having them INSTEAD of the main HG items like F&Vs is a very bad idea, and not something I want to start doing. So it must stop immediately.

Hi Kristen--I loved your thread on shopping like a French housewife. I love to cook and could easily go to the grocery every day. So anyway, I thought I'd read your journal. One comment. Way back in mid-February, you noted that you'd had pasta for lunch and were making baked sweet potatoes for dinner which made you have to count the pasta at lunch. BUT, sweet potatoes are not regular potatoes and thus would not be eating 2 restricted grains in one day. Does that make sense?
Keep up the good work! You make great comments.

Hi Ellen, Thanks for the kind words, and for stopping by! From what I've seen in the Getting Started book and from the Core food list on the WW site, sweet potatoes are considered the same as white potatoes so it's part of the potato/brown rice/ww pasta triad. Unfortunately! Thanks for the encouragement, and good luck to you! Kristen

Notes: Hmph, I stayed the same at weigh-in tonight. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, but really it's kind of a blessing. I've been cutting corners all week -- not getting all my F&V's and getting more carbs than I know I really need -- and this is just the wake-up call I needed to get focused more sharply again.
Although, if I want to make an excuse, I could blame the pasta I ate just before leaving: I could feel it sitting like a lead balloon in my belly during the whole meeting! LOL.
Anyway, I'm still on track; I did have a great NSV today, as I realized I've already gone down a clothing size! My newest khakis are WAY too big for me -- I practically accidentally "pantsed" myself at work today. Hee!
I think I might go to Kohl's and get another pair of these exact pants in a smaller size; they're just Lee khakis so they should have them for quite some time. And when I shrink out of the next size, I'll go get the next smallest. Heheheh, I'll keep a collection of the same pants in all the sizes I go through as I get down to goal! ;-)

Fri 3/11
Topsy-turvy day b/c I'm off work and won't be around for lunch. So I had a HUGE breakfast! I'm planning on crab cakes for dinner, hopefully.
Breakfast: coffee w/skim milk 3-egg scrambled egg w/soy cheese and spinach eng muff w/ laughing cow light cheese (2 pts)
Snack: banana
Lunch: 1/2 baked potato w/marg (2pts) 3 skinless chicken legs roasted cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and peas 1/4 cup cornbread stuffing (2 pts)
Dinner: 2 servings of salad w/romaine, carrots, red peppers, chicken pieces, soy cheese, ff dressing 2 pieces thin-crust onion pizza (8pts)
F/V: a little spinach, banana, cauliflower/broccoli/peas/carrots (2), salad (2), red pepper
APs earned: 0 APs earned for the week: 0
Total extra points used today: 2+4+8 = 14
WPAs used total: 8+14 = 22 WPAs left: 35-8-14 = 13
Notes: Whoa, I am blowing through my WPAs -- and I still have to go out to breakfast tomorrow, and Hubby is taking me out for dinner on Sunday for my birthday.
But the thing is, I don't feel like I'm wasting them; the lunch I had today was at a buffet at a casino, and I'm really proud of myself for only having a spoonful of the stuffing -- everything else was Core, and there were a LOT of non-Core favorite foods there. But I resisted them!
And the pizza tonight -- hell, YES, it was worth it. (Got home too late to buy and cook crab cakes.) I had a huge, YUMMY salad that looked and tasted fabulous, and I had one small piece of delicious pizza. When that didn't fill me up, I had another bowl of salad and another small slice. I've never done that -- I used to just inhale half the pizza without even thinking about it. So this felt like a big win.
Anyway, I guess I need to remind myself that I AM doing this right -- I'm just doing a lot of it at once. ;-) If all of this eating out were spread out over the week or a couple of weeks, it wouldn't impact my points like this. So I shouldn't panic, just keep going and do my best.

Hi Kristen,
I just wanted to let you know that I always like reading your posts/replies to threads. I think you have the right idea with core and are so articulate in the expressions of your thoughts. I like the way you organize your journal entries, too.
Thanks for all your hard work and sharing it with this group.

Oh yeah...Happy Birthday!!

Hi Sulee, and thank you!
Truth be told, I worked for WW for five years, so I really know all the "tricks" and reasonings very well. I left before they ever introduced the points systems, but the basic premise is still the same as ever.
Also, I'm in it this time to make a real, LASTING change to the way I eat, so being reasonable about my expectations and about Core is critical to success, I believe; obviously, although I did lose weight on WW and I did keep it off for over five years, I didn't really re-learn how to eat healthily. I want to do that this time.
Anyway, now I'm rambling. Thank you so much for the birthday wishes!

Kristen,
Right on about the reasonable expectations !! I feel that I am (yikes) kind of soft core because I want this to be my life of eating...not a 'diet'.
And thanks for your feedback about journaling strategies.

Sun 3/13 It's my birthday today, and the spoiled part of me wants to just skip tracking and counting altogether. But I won't -- I'll be as good as I can be. Lunch: tomato soup tunafish w/spinach on ww bread (2pts) pineapple
Snack: orange
Dinner: meatloaf baked potato w/margarine (2 pts) broccoli carrots
F/V: tomato soup, pineapple, a little spinach, orange, broccoli, carrots

Total extra points used today: 3+2+2 = 7
WPAs used total: 8+14+2+13+7 = 44 WPAs left: 35-8-14-2-13-7 = -9
Notes: Damn, it's much harder to get back in sync than I thought. Although, none of what I've had today is different than any other normal day for me -- the difference is right now I don't have any WPAs to spend and yet I'm spending them anyway.
Baby steps. Tonight's dinner I know is all-Core, and tomorrow I'll just work harder on no-WPA choices. Truth is, I DID try to make an all-Core "fried rice" thing for lunch today, but it came out HORRIBLY and so last-minute I slapped a sandwich together. So I am trying to stay on-track, and I should remember that.
Grrr. I sort of "picked myself" to death on WPAs this weekend -- lots of "special events" where I did very good at staying on Core and only having a few extra points. The problem was there were four of these events, and it added up fast.
Hmm, I should make a post about this.
