OMG, Harry Potter hands down!!!!! I had to buy two copies of it because 3 of us are reading it. Yes, mom has to wait until the kiddos are in bed to read it!! Actually, they finished it yesterday (ds, 13 read it in 2 days) and now I have both copies all to myself. Sigh....I'm half-way through it and savoring every word because I know it will be YEARS before the next one comes out!!! Monica

I guess Harry is the consensus. It has my vote too - I've loved all of the books. I kind of feel like you do after you wolf down a slice of pie - damn it, it's all gone!!
I plowed through the book in two days, and now I'm just left wanting more. I should have paced myself ...

Our 19 yr old DD just finished it and is planning to start re-reading it right away. I'm especially thrilled because reading has always been a challenge for her and she never read for pleasure until the Harry Potter books came out. I'm looking forward to reading it when DH is finished. Should only be a day or so more.

I have been reading Jan Karon's Mitford series - the setting is so charming, and so are the characters. They're centered around a small southern town and follow the citizens and their lives. There's a new one coming out in November, I can't wait!

So far this summer I've read Invisible by Lorena McCourtney ( a good, wholesome, mystery with a middle-age marm central character), and Eleven on Top by Janet Evanovich. Seems like there was another one, but my mind is blank... :-) I work in a library, so the books just seem to come to me...I always have a pile of wanna-reads. I just started the Kite Runner, as mentioned earlier. Wishing I had more time to read.... :-)

I'm reading Embroidered Truths by Monica Ferris, the newest (and, hopefully, not the last) in a series of cozy mysteries set in and around a needlework shop called "Crewel World." I'm enjoying.
I also recently enjoyed the latest Mary Higgins Clark, but I can't remember the title and I loaned my copy out.
Does anyone else like the cozies?

Oh, yes -- I LOVE the cozy mysteries! Have you ever tried any of the "Murder, She Wrote" books? They're supposedly written by Jessica Fletcher with a co-author, and are all about her solving mysteries -- just like the TV shows. Every one has been great! There's also the wonderfully humorous series of "Bed and Breakfast" mysteries by Mary Daheim. With titles like 'This Old Souse,' 'Fowl Prey' and 'A Streetcar Named Expire' you just know they're going to be a good read. Another series I recently discovered is the "Hannah Swenson" mysteries by Joanne Fluke. The main character is a professional baker in a small town who solves murder mysteries. There are always about a half dozen recipes in each book... too bad none are low cal!! And then there are The Cat Who... mysteries by Lillian Jackson Braun. I stumbled across one about 5 years ago, got hooked and went back and bought the whole series. I love it when a new one comes out!!

Just finished Alibi by Joseph Kanon. I recommend it to those who like novels based on historical times. This is mystery set in Italy just after end of WWII.

Thanks, Becky. I think I saw a display of Hannah Swenson stories in a bookstore over the summer -- I think I'll try one of those.
I used to love those The Cat Who... books, but then I got tired of them. I haven't read one in a while, though, so maybe I'll go back to them.
Have you read any of the Lighthouse mysteries by Tim Myers? I've enjoyed the couple I've read so far.

Keli -
You know, I read the first one of the Lighthouse series, enjoyed it -- and then forgot all about them. I should check those out again. Thanks for reminding me of them!

I also LOVED The Kite Runner. I've recommended it to my reading group. We're reading "Reading Lolita in Tehran" for the month of August. Haven't started it though.

I've read "Good in Bed", it was terrific!
I'm just finishing "Colony" by Anne Siddons ______ (what's her last name??), it started out slow but I'm enjoying it.
I also read whatever Steven King puts out, and I'm a huge James Clavell fan (Taipan, King Rat, Noble House, etc).

I finished Harry P and now am at a loss. I have been reading a series of mysteries by Donna Leon, set in Venice. We have a shelf at work for people to leave books they've finished. I recommend this as a way to find good new books and to get rid of ones you've finished.

Another good cozy series is M.C. Beaton's books featuring Agatha Raisin. You need to start early in the series because there's actually some personal development from book to book. However, the very best, in my view, are Dorothy Sayres' Lord Peter Wimsey.
