Substitute for sun-dried tomatoes?

I don't guess I qualify as a newbie, but I think this is a basic Core question, so here goes:

I know I'd have to count points to use sun-dried tomatoes in a recipe, which, to me, isn't a good use of points.

A recipe I read this evening called for reconstituting cup of sun dried tomatoes with 1 cup of boiling water.

- Would the reconstituted tomatoes be Core?

- If not, do you see any reason I couldn't use regular tomatoes in the recipe in place of the dried ones?
