Congratulations to all of you!!! Fantastic losses Ema, Vita, Night. I'm slowly getting the hint that additional exercise is what I need, but am resisting the necessity of it. I have changed my eating routine from what it was before WW. I made the decision that I could eat this way for the rest of my life and be very content...however exercise is a different matter. I need to make the decision that I can and will do some form of additional exercise for the rest of my life....must work on a plan. I've been a lazy cook lately...DH doesn't eat many of the good core foods that I love so, instead of fixing us each something I just eat what I cook for him. It doesn't take any more time of effort to fix us each something and usually only a pan or 2 more dishes...so last night I decided it's time to take care of me again. While frying a burger for him, I made talapia with tomatoes and black olives...fantastic! I feel better when I do that. Usually the only difference between what he eats and what I eat is the protein and vegetable. So...back to cooking what I want!!! Sometimes I'll slip him a little something good for him and he will never know the difference lol Have a FABULOUS day everyone Katie

Thanks for the welcomes, friends. I've missed you too. Silly things we do to ourselves sometimes...... *sigh*
One thing that gave my inspiration a nudge was reading some of "You on a Diet" during a Barnes and Noble date with my DP. I meant to glance at it and instead took notes for 4 hours! I think I'll start a thread elsewhere to share some tips--it's very similar to core.
Katie, sometimes I wish we lived in the same town and I could ask you to be my daily walking partner. The activity is the single hardest thing about changing my life. Wishing you strength and motivation!

Hey all you runners who may be thinking about a 5K, You really don't have to be able to run the whole thing. Plenty of people walk most of the way. Whatever you do, if it is a sort of big race, you will fit right in. Set your own goal for the race, sign up, and have fun!
Also, about the hip pain -- I've had that too, in the past when I tried to run regularly. I never figured out what it was, but if it persists you might just try slowing down the training a little (e.g. run "only" twice a week instead of three times, or resist upping the mileage until the soreness goes away?). The reason I've never really been able to stick with running is because it does seem to be harder on my body than other typical gym-type workouts; in fact I'm experiencing a really pesky soreness in my calf. But this time I'm not going to give up on the running -- as soon as my calf is better I'm getting back to it, and I will take my own advice about cutting down on miles/intensity if that seems to help until I'm in good enough shape to run injury-free.
Night, I'm so glad you're back. Think how far you've come -- of course there will be times when you don't want to stay on track, and that's okay. But you know you can lose those few pounds again. You are already doing it!
There is so much great stuff going on here. I'm really inspired by all of you!

Don't think of it as exercise, just look for some ways to increase how ACTIVE you are. Park the car at the back of the lot ON PURPOSE so you'll walk an extra amount to do your errand. Or park once and take each package back to the car before you go into the next store. My start as an exerciser was nothing more than getting off the city bus one stop early and walking that extra block or two to work and home. Then two stops. Before I knew (6 months later) it I was walking 3 miles.
My recent experience with exercise shocks me. I was always the person who needed a date with someone to go exercise at a gym. When I started going to Curves, it was because I knew I needed exercise, but even more I needed some 'me' time during a very difficult period for my family. Now I relish my time at the gym as much for the opportunity to be alone with my thoughts and to focus on how it makes me feel pleased to be taking care of myself. As I said a few posts ago, I don't actually like the running, but I do love having pushed the envelope and I love knowing that I am once again doing everything in my power to regain my health (since I know that being perfect isn't in my power).
Just some thoughts about how to reframe your aversions to activity.

Great ideas on re-framing Ema. I am somewhat limited here by weather, and a very small town, and money. There just isn't any extra for joining a gym, we are currently experiencing below 0 temps, and everthing is close together in a small town. I do park as far away as possible, any further and I would almost be walking to work lol. Mostly my issue is my own resistance. We have a couple of good dvd's here, I just need to make a plan and stick to it. Of course when the weather is warmer and I no longer have to worry about riding home in the dark, I'll be riding my bike to work again. I look forward to that. My saving grace is that my job is very active. I never sit down, and am walking the floor of the store most of the day. Today I'll be unloading 3 trucks. Probably 75 boxes or so and many of them very heavy patio furniture. But all of that doesn't do much for toning backside, leg and abs. WI will be interesting tonight, I'm always surprised at the results. Have a great day Katie

Katie - many, many people have had great success with at home DVD's. I know when my son was younger and not in school yet I would do that during his nap and I tried to make it non-negotiable for myself because I knew I only had a short window of time. The hardest thing about exercising at home is that there are a million distractions and other things to do!!
That being said, I have been doing my C25K training at home on the treadmill in the basement. Yesterday I didn't get a chance to do it in the morning while DS was in school so I did it in the afternoon while he was down there with me watching a video, playing Legos, etc. I will probably have to do it like that tomorrow also. He was a good sport about it but luckily the workout is only a half hour!
Last night I went out to dinner with my cousins (there are 8 women in my generation and we try to go out once a month) and by the time the food came it was 8:30 and we were famished! I had two sushi rolls, some edamame and a few bites of chocolate brownie. I've gotten a lot of AP's this week so I'm trying not to feel too guilty about the cake! One of my cousins who had a baby last summer is on WW and almost at goal - she is back at her high school weight! She had less than 20 to lose I think. But her husband is also on WW with her and he has lost 45 pounds already. And they are both doing CORE! I really wish my DH would get on the bandwagon too.
Busy day today but I'm going to spin this morning, do yoga this afternoon and donate blood later today as well. I hope WI tomorrow reflects all of the working out I've done this week and the scale can start moving down again!
Happy Thursday!
-Beth

Good job Cathy, and Congratulations to your MIL Beth. Please tell her we are proud of her too Confession time...I didn't go to wi last night. I just felt like I needed to skip, dangerous thinking I know, but sometimes I just need a little break. I didn't have a stellar week and wasn't up to facing the scale. This week MUST be better. So as far as an update on my goals? NO, NO, NO. When you don't do well one week the only place to go is up, so I know next week will be better. (powdered sugar is now gone, so I can't make anymore frosting lol) DH will probably do the grocery shopping this week and he is a very good stick to the list shopper. If I don't write it down he won't buy it. Maybe he should do the shopping more often lol So Here's to the start of a GREAT new week HIHO Katie

Katie--One of my leaders often says "When you've had a good week, the meeting needs you, when you've had a bad week, you need the meeting." Do they use "No Weigh-In Passes" at your location? They are key if avoiding the scale keeps you from a meeting. I've never used one, but I have a friend who needed to see big numbers in the loss column, so she came to meetings every week, but used her no-weigh-in pass for 2-3 weeks in a row and then saw a big loss at the scale when she did weigh in. For most of us, if we feel a need to avoid the scale, it's a sign we've gotten off course during the week and we need the meeting even more than usual to help us re-orient ourselves on our journey.
Cathy--great job!
Beth-congrats to your MIL! So nice to have someone close to you also focusing on healthy eating and who can be a partner to cheer one another along. Especially a MIL! My MIL told me that the cause of obesity is sugar substitutes and that if no one used them (my main use is putting splenda in my coffee instead of sugar) no one would be overweight. This after I'd lost over 50 lbs on WW, including largely going off sugar. She has her own ideas about these things, most of which are counter to science and logic. But she has other redeeming qualities.

Congrats to everyone on their hard work and success! I'm checking in since I'm actually up and around today. Had an utterly miserable week, with a really bad chest cold and then, on top of that, the nasty stomach bug that is making the rounds. I sure hope that all of you avoid it! The first day I felt like I was gonna die, and the second day I was afraid that I wouldn't! There should be a rule that one should not ever have to throw up once they become an adult. Needless to say, my efforts were pretty much on hold. I missed my meeting/WI, couldn't keep much of anything (core or not) down, etc. Just a bump in the road, I guess, but I'm getting back at it as I start feeling better. Have a great week, everyone. STAY HEALTHY!!!

Glad you're feeling better, Mikki. DS#4 has had a peculiar stomach bug. He's not miserably sick, just not as interested in food as usual, and a bit less energetic, having a bit of diarrhea and waking up in the night vomiting, but fine in the day. Not sure how long to let it go on before going to the pediatrician so she can tell me it's a virus, especially since he seems relativley fine during the day. We thought it was over, but last night brought more, eh, shall we say "symptoms"? DS#1 (9.5 and with high functioning autism) informed us, after we sent him to the kitchen for more paper towels, he's going to make sure HIS kids all get an anti-vomiting vaccine as he has NO plans to ever have to clean up throw-up. If only it were so simple.

Good morning!
Hurray for your MIL, Beth - yes tell her your WW core pals are happy for her!!
Katie - ya gotta do what ya gotta do...as far as not weighing in...but Ema is right, my leader said the same thing so it must be a phrase from leader training! Use your no-WI pass next time but attend the meeting if you can....you know how uplifting and supporting meetings are. You don't have to face the scale but the meetings are great. That said...so you skipped it...it's OK, move on this week toward your goals, you know it will be a better week.
Mikki - I hope you are feeling much better! Stomach viruses are the worst. Take care of yourself first, do not worry about Core or WW right now, get back into it when your body can tolerate food and exercise.
Ema - Haha, it seems we are into the vomit stories again LOL. Hope your DS#4 feels better soon too. I love your DS#1's comment and I agree wholeheartedly! ;D
Have a great day and weekend !

Hey all-
I feel like I am following in Ema's footsteps from last week because I did a ton of exercising this week (28 or so AP's) and tracked all my WPA's and showed only a .2 loss when I was definitely expecting to see my hard work at the gym pay off a little bit more. I do have my TOM, however, so maybe that had something to do with it. I donated blood yesterday and I thought even that weighed a pound! Our meeting today was about getting past a crossroads, and I feel I can't let the number on the scale deter or frustrate me, I know I'm going the right thing. That being said, I am not sure the new Core snack guidelines are working for me because I am much hungrier during the day than I used to be and with all of this activity I really need to have the extra protein or whole grains to fill me up in a way that fruits and veggies don't. My leader agreed, felt I should use my AP's (which I typically don't eat) on protein and see what happens.
Goals for upcoming week: -Increase my vegetable and dairy intake -Eat fish rather than meat for dinner at least 2 times (I bought Grouper for tonight) -Continue with spinning and C25K -Write down WPA's
Have a great weekend everyone! I'm off to do Day 2 of Week 2 of C25K.
Mikki - hope you are feeling better!
-Beth

Hi hi!
Ema: I appreciate the thoughts about reframing as well. I do some of those things already and actually do appreciate how my body feels when I move it--even just doing housework. It's a good step. Now to translate that into larger blocks of time...
Katie: after our month of snow and ice I feel you. Today it was cold but the ice was GONE. So good to just walk on the sidewalk without being scared. Sometimes it's hard to pull out those DVDs too, isn't it? Enjoy the movement you do and celebrate yourself for doing it. Don't beat yourself up when you don't, ok? Also, I think taking a week off is fine--especially if your attitude is a great as it sounds now. Wishing you a fantastic NEW week.
Speaking of beating yourself up--just a few bits, Beth? Cheers for you for stopping after just a taste! And a taste is ok! I think that's a NSV, not something to worry about at ALL. Also, congrats on your loss (no matter how small) and to your MIL--awesome!
Cathy: WOO HOO! WTG girlfriend! *cheers*
Mikki: Hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself and be extra good and gentle in your thinking too.
Here's a quote from the Dali Lama that I read today:
As long as we live in this world, we are bound to encounter problems. If, at such times, we lose hope and become discouraged, we diminish our ability to face difficulties. If, on the other hand, we remember that it is not just ourselves but also everyone who has to undergo suffering, this more realistic perspective will increase our determination and capacity to overcome troubles.
Wishing you all a bright and beautiful weekend!
