Sounds like you made excellent choices, Beth!
Our nice weather is gone; we are back to cold (if you call 48 degrees cold) and misty rain. Oh well, we need it.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to report in. I am doing fine; my knee is healing nicely and I'm feeling strong as far as food goes. My challenge is coming up this weekend; going away for retreat and there will be lots of great food. The place is famous for its hot, whole grain cereal at breakfast and fresh food throughout the day, so I think I'll be able to stick close to Core. I'm not going to obsess about it, but here are my guidelines:
- No chips, candy, crackers or cookies at snack times - No bread
Instead, I'll snack on fruit, cheese, and nuts (heavy on the fruit though!) And veggies, of course! I think I'll bring "my" popcorn as well. Tomorrow night someone is bringing soup to share; I'll eat that as well as my veggie plate. At the meals prepared by the retreat place, I'll just stay away from sugar and refined carbs, especially bread. I think it will be fine and I will come out of this weekend mentally drained, but physically feeling good.

Coco - so glad your knee is heeling - did you ever go to the doctor? Hope you enjoy your retreat. Your hot cereal sounds awesome. I had the BEST hot cereal ever when we were in Atlanta and I've tried to replicate it the best I can (Core-style of course) and it tastes pretty close!
Hi Cathy! It's freezing in Chicago - we've had below zero temperatures this week. Stay warm!
I AM DOING THE HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!! I weighed in yesterday 3 lbs. less and have finally gotten that holiday/vacation gain off. I'm now within 2 pounds of goal again, although the high range of that. I'd like to lose 5 pounds and get into the low 120's, I weighed in yesterday at 126.6. I was happy though and I feel motivated again.
I did a one hour strength training workout yesterday - I signed up for 3 of them at my gym. I have one more left, now to just keep it up on my own once it's over - that's the challenge.
MY DH and I are going to a matinee today while DS is in school - how decadent!
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
-Beth

Hi, girls - Coco, glad to hear about your knee being better. Sounds like you have a great plan for the weekend. Enjoy yourself at the retreat! Beth, congrats on your loss and not having to pay! You are an inspiration, I do so want to be within 2 pounds of goal again... and I will get there eventually. Have a great weekend!!

Beth! How wonderful that you got back into the "no pay" range. That's my short-term goal as well! Hopefully by March . . .
I did fine at the retreat. I did have a couple of treats but did not feel out of control, and that was my real goal.
Yes, I did go to the doctor for my knee, in fact I've been twice. I had to call the occupational health nurse because it happened at work, and they make you keep going to the doctor until you are positive you are completely healed. It's kind of a pain! So my goal is to be completely healed before my next appointment in two weeks, so I will not have to go again.

Never too late...right? I have been getting mentally ready to get back into eating as I know I would be healthiest eating. Having tried MANY ways of eating in the past I also know that losing weight on many of the various program does work. My biggest trouble NOW is choosing a way to eat that I can do forever. I thought I could count exchanges or points or portion sizes or give up some foods forever but am finding (after over 20 years of this) that I am tired of it all. Could CORE be the answer? Maybe...if I figure out how to make sure I eat healthily doing it...in the past the best way was to allow five non-core points daily. That might work again. Also, in the past I have felt I might not be as able to do it where I live since there are few if any "diet" products available: soy cheese, nonfat cheese, diet puddings, etc...that said...maybe I would be even HEALTHIER since I would not have them to eat? Will keep getting mentally fit and get back to a program by the next challenge (what will that be?) if not before.

Cathy - good luck with finding answers to your questions - are there any? I think you're right, we need to find whatever "it" is that will work and be maintainable for life.
That being said, I have been off track for the last week for no good reason at all. It's back on the bandwagon for me in the morning. And as much as I don't like working out at home and much prefer being in the gym, I'm going to need to dust off that treadmill in the basement and suck it up! It's just not always possible to make it to the gym. And we are getting more snow tonight and who knows what tomorrow will be. There was no school here on Friday. In any case, my time is much more limited now that I'm working part-time so I need to be on the treadmill or using my workout DVD's and not make excuses ANYMORE.
Wish me luck for a start over Monday. Happy February!!

Cathy in Lebanon - hi! You can find your answers, getting mentally back into it is a good first step. You are correct, you do need a way to eat forever to maintain weight -- it's not easy!! I think you should forget about "diet" foods and just eat food. If there are no low or non fat cheeses, etc. where you live, maybe you can concentrate on whole grains, good veggies/fruit and lean meats. And of course your WPAs are for the non-Core stuff that is around, don't deny yourself. Glad to hear from you! It has been a quiet challenge but we try. Hi, Beth - sorry about your weather, there has been little snow in NJ and I'm glad. However today it's supposed to be 40 degrees and it started snowing! No accumulation though and it looks like it's stopped now. Surprised me, though. Good luck at starting a new exercise routine at home! You can work out a new routine, no excuses! I'm working out at home after work today, let's do it together (whatever time you want). There is a gym here at work and I have been doing the elliptical Tues. and Thurs. but I find I miss my Firm workouts. I may go back to all at-home exercising. We are moving into our new building later this month but the gym there won't be ready for a while. Maybe when it is, since it will be brand new, I will try again to exercise there after work but for now it's back to what I am comfortable with. Have a good day everyone!

Not going out to dinner today so can eat a Core type meal...hooray! Will be focusing on more whole grains and such but will definitely be setting a date AFTER my birthday on the 11th to really buckle down. In the meantime...will focus on one meal at a time.
What will the next challenge be?

Cathy, good to see you here! I'm not sure there is any one solution to eating healthy, for ever. There will always be special occasions, different foods we want to try. The only solution I am discovering is to take things one day at a time.
I was completely off track for about a week, right before Lent started. I think it was the very idea of Lent; partly the idea that I always give up soda and sugar for 40 days. So guess what I was binging on?
Funny, right before that retreat a couple of weeks ago I was at my lowest weight for 2008; the day after Mardi Gras I had gained all but 2 pounds back. But after staying on Core and drinking no soda or having any sugar for four days my weight was back to a new low. Just shows how much it can fluctuate, but also how effective Core can be especially the first few days!
Good luck to everyone. What should our next challenge be? March Madness is too soon . . . April Fools? I think that's what we did last year . . .

Hi and welcome to the new work week ... April Fools Challenge sounds good ...that's me! I wonder if I'll feel like a fool reading over my goals for this challenge...I will do that next. I guess keepin' on plugging away and attending meetings and paying says something for my tenacity. I hope there are a lot of lurkers out there in Kippyland, and that they will join us for the next challenge!

I like the idea of an April Fool's Challenge. That would be longer than a St. Patrick's Day (one month) and shorter than a May Day Challenge (more like three months). I suppose there could be a spring challenge...but when does spring really arrive...end of March? Whatever it is...will join this one

Cathy, I feel like a fool too! I didn't exactly keep one of my goals, don't think I even tried. Here's how I'm ending up:
Weigh every day -- yes, except for a weekend away Weight training at least 2x/week -- nope, didn't even make it to the gym. My body shows it, too. Journal 3-7 times per week -- more or less . . . No potato chips or low-nutrient types of crunchy snacks -- most of the time, except for a few binge episodes. I think I'm over these, though!

I'll be honest too and see how I did on this challenge: I will watch portion control and eat Core 90% of the time. - NOI will cook and freeze Core meals. - not nearly enoughI will keep Core snacks on hand at work. - no, I don't snack at all during the day....would this help my metabolism? It certainly would help my munching on an occasional mini Snickers or other candy at work. I will get 4 APs 5/6x a week. - yes, I would say about 5.I will attend my WW meeting each week. - YESI will journal every week day. - YESOK, time to get more serious in the next challenge. Now I feel I am more back into my normal groove of life with eating and exercise, I will do better in the April Fool's challenge!! With the same goals! ;D
