I was standing in line at Wal-Mart this morning, apparently at the same time everyone else in the area needed an oil change, too, and glanced up at the closed circuit TV, which was showing us all from the back. Most of us were dressed pretty much alike on this hot, humid morning -- shorts and T-shirts. Well, my first thought when I saw the fat lady on the screen was, But I'm not wearing a pink shirt. I looked down and, sure enough, I was wearing the lavender knit shirt I'd remembered putting on (a size 16, actually, the first one of those I've fit into). So I looked around, and a woman in front of me was wearing denim shorts and a hot pink T-shirt, and she was about the size I used to be (probably a little smaller, in fact).
Then I looked back at the TV and found myself -- sure, I'm still way too big, but I was not "the fat lady" any more -- I didn't really stand out in the crowd.

How neat! Isn't it interesting that it takes our minds so long to catch up with our bodies? Congrats on seeing yourself differently!

It does seem to take a while to recognize yourself when your body has changed. What a great feeling it is though!
Congratulations! ;D

Thanks -- you all are so right -- it is hard to think of myself as looking any different, and it's great when something lets me see myself as I'm becoming, rather than where I've been

Isn't it strange how our minds work? I still see myself as that 250 lb. woman sometimes, although I'm getting better.
I remember the first time it hit me. I was wandering in a store that had a wall of mirrors, and happened to glance over and notice a familiar person. It took a couple moments for me to realize that it was me! Stopped me right in my tracks. I did not look anything like how I perceived myself. Definitely an "ah-ha" moment!

Thought about you and this thread when I was at the Liberty Science Center today with DH and my children (4 boys ages 19 months-8 years), walking through the exhibit on mirrors and illusions. Lots of fun house and other mirrors.
The sort of place that was torture 100 lbs ago, and today, IT WAS FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really enjoyed it and didn't have the least inclination to cut the boys enjoyment of it short to get me away from the mirrors. I actually had fun seeing myself in them, (though I was just in a long denim skirt and summer layered looking pullover, no make-up, no jewlery--pure mom mode!).
