I have been Type II diabetic for 35 yrs, and on insulin for about the last 7. And been totally out of control for most of those years on "diets". I started Core on 1/22/05, and within 1 week of eating Core I was not only having "normal" blood sugars, but having lows. I went to my dr. last week for regular checkup, and for the first time in 7 yrs, actually had a loss on his scales (you know dr. office scales are notoriously "heavy", anyway that's my belief ). Also he cut the amount of insulin I was taking drastically. The highest blood sugar I have had in last 3 wks was a 130. This is down from running 250 and above all the time. If any of you are diabetics, you know how much better I feel physically just for this, let alone the 13.8 lbs I've lost. I will keep eating this way forever, even if I never lose another pound because of how much better I feel. Just had to share this. Jerie

That is so terrific! As you know, diabetes is a serious condition and is so often improved by a good diet and exercise. Core is terrific for diabetics to utilize in combination with their doctors' and nutritionists' recommendations. I am not diabetic myself but have always reacted strongly to processed carbs and sugars. Core has really helped me balance in a way that I wasn't acheiving even being careful on Flex. I never realized that the white foods that I ate---the occasional rice, pasta, sourdough bread were affecting me that much, until I pretty much quit eating them. Still eat the bread once in a while, but generally not white sourdough. But the white rice and pasta are gone from my pantry, never to return. Keep up the great work with Core! You clearly have an extra incentive that you can always look to for 'motivation' if you are ever struggling with what to eat.

Jeri - I know where you're coming from. I have hypo-glycemia (low blood sugar) and since I've been on Core, my blood sugar has stablized. I was gestational diabetic when I carried the last 2 of my 3 children (many year ago). Plus, my Mom and my Grandmother were both diabetic. So, I know that I have a good chance of developing it.
I've been interested in eating foods with a lower glycemic index for a while now. The book entitled "The Sugar Solution" published by Rodale talks about how eating these foods can help stablize your blood sugar (whether it be high or low). I was so thrilled when I learned that the Core plan had taken this into consideration. Core provides not only a ready made plan (that works) but a multitude of recipes and ideas from the good people on the boards. I've only been on the plan since the last week in December and I too am thinking that this may be the way for me to eat for the rest of my life.
I know what you mean by how much better you feel physically. It's amazing to me. No more shakiness, fuzzy brain and tiredness. I've quit many other diets because my blood sugar would not tolerate them.
You go girl! Keep up the good work and enjoy feeling better!
Patty

Jeri, that is great and thanks for sharing. ;D DH is type II and he is following core when he is home. I know he is feeling better. his bs would be lower if he just exercised, but I am working on that. the gazelle is being delivered this week. I am going to a diabetiic conference this week to get more info to help him. the current prevention mag has lots of info on the sugar effect and he took it to read on the plane today. keep up the good work. ;D

Hi Jerie,
I know exactly where you are coming from. I am Type II on Avandamet and Glipizide. My normal readings with the meds are in the 90-110 range. However, since I started Core less than two weeks ago I have been getting readings in the 70s and low 80s which bring on the effects of hypoglycemia for me.
I don't have another appointment with the Dr until April and hopefully will be significantly lighter by then. I may go ahead and schedule an appointment sooner if the "episodes" drop into the 60s.
WTG and hopefully you will be able to get off insulin all together!
Tim

Congrats to all of you who are getting improved blood sugar readings on core. I am also hypo...with strong family background of diabetes and have eaten pretty much core for a number of years. I do tend to eat at the protein end of the scale, and not as many starches as many others do, cause they seem to really mess with my sugars.
