Hey all, I had a revelaton today....... Yes, the scale said I was up 2 lbs. No, I'm not worried. I swear it lies to me the same way every Monday morning!! Anyways, when I was getting dressed I looked in the mirror and was pleasently surprised to like what I saw. The size 8 jeans are still feeling great, sometimes I can even imagine that my hips are normal-sized. Then it hit me....... Why do we stress out so much about a few pounds when they don't even visibly show on our bodies?? We've gotten to goal and are maintaining our weight. The scale says we've gained a bit, so we just get our butts to the gym, or where ever, and exercise a little bit more and eat a little bit less. There, problem solved, and I still look the same!!!! GREAT!!!!! I hope no one thinks I'm bragging here!! I just am still figuring this whole Lifetime and mainenance thing and learning more every day. What do you think?? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Monica

I think you look MAHVELOUS DAHLING!!! ;D
seriously, not to deliberately be contrary, but at this weight I Feel 2 pounds. probably because for me it hits my waist and that's already the tightest spot in my jeans. at least 2 pounds of bloat from a big meal or something. i don't know if 2 REAL pounds would be the same---havent' truly gained 2 real pounds anytime since i started. but definitely packed it on overnight in bloat!
Funny, when i was 270 or so, losing 5 pounds didn't show at all. Heck, 20 pounds didn't show either. But soooo many people who saw me in early December or so and not again till this month have noticed the 5 pounds I've lost in the interim. BIG DIFFERENCE! And big difference in my jeans and corduroys. The cords are too loose! I'm going to have to have them taken in a bit before next season---probably not worth it this season since we'll be in capris in another 6 weeks or so.

Ok, cool, so that probably means that I really didn't gain 2 lbs. I'll let you know!!! I just don't want to be one to obsess over a few pounds. As long as I keep watching all that I do, eating, exercising, etc....I should be fine. Right?? Julie, where have you BEEN today? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Monica

We do it because WW stresses the scale so much. There is no other way to measure yourself and make WW happy.

I'm not near maintenance yet, but as I get closer, my philosophy is that we DO need to watch the fluxuations on the scale. I have read that people who have maintained a weight loss for an extended period of time have a couple things in common: regular exercise, and never letting the scale go higher than 5 pounds above their goal. I think the problem for those of us with weight issues is that we haven't dealt with the small gains until we're 10, 20, 40, or more pounds higher than goal, and many of us just throw up our hands at that point. My naturally thin friends know when the scale is up a few pounds, even without weighing, because their clothes feel tigher. They then reign themselves in and get those few pounds gone.
I think we always need to keep it in the front of our brains, don't you?

It's great that you are becoming so at ease with your body that you judge by how you look to yourself, not by what the scale says. I think the WW scale maxim, "feedback, not failure" is very sensible. It's just one source of information.
Keep wearing the jeans, by the way. I was in Montreal last week-end and I knew that my jeans would not fit over my Polartec leggings so I didn't bring them. I wore Polartec sweatpants over Polartec leggings. The elastic waists made me feel far too comfortable and I was not disciplined when it came to the hotel mini-bar.
How do you stay warm in Michigan?

All of the above is good for me to read. On my first day of maintenance here and frankly it is a little scary to loosing up the reigns at all. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) I terrified to gaining the 20 back over night so... your comments remind me that it doesn't happen over night and as long as I am vigilent, weigh in, and quietly catch the small gains that might happen...it will be alright. Thanks. ![](http://www.websmileys.com/sm/cartoon/1244.gif)

Xena! Congrats on making goal! Relax!!! Maintenance is simple. If you are really intending to stop at this weight (some of us continue to lose intentionally), then you just add a few more things here and there. Relax, take it slowly, and expect that you will be down (and up) a bit here and there for a while. Eventually those fluctuations will sort of level out.
For me, I'm trying to lose still, but more slowly. All I've really changed is that I'm eating more avocado (not sure what will happen when they're not in season anymore!), more bread, more nuts, more oil. Pretty much it. When I decide I've lost enough, I'll just add more of those things, and maybe a little more real cheese. Nothing special I'm missing though, and I'm already full, so the key will be to just add higher fat foods (healthy of course!).
Take it easy and enjoy the ride!

Thanks I appreciate your comments. Frankly I haven't changed anything yet. I am sure I will still lose this week because of that...which would be okay. I would be happy to have a few lbs. of breathing room. Then I think I will slowly add one point a day back in each week and see where I start to even out.
By the way your stats. are amazing. Congratulations!

Well I know this thread has been quiet for a while and it is interesting to see what we all wrote.
I have gained 1.5 lbs in the last two weeks and frankly I am freakin' out a bit. I know I just need to relax, admit I ate 6 chocolate chip cookies last night and move on. I always regain my weight by binging on sugar - this is my pattern. I need to reign that sugar monster in and stay focused on my goal of maintaining my weight. No two lbs isn't a big deal but if next week it is four then I am truly gaining again and that is a problem. Thanks for listening to my rambling. I just needed to journal this out and share a little.

Xena, 2 pounds through a bingeing habit is important to pay attention to! That can so easily get out of hand. Starve the evil sugar monster! ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

Jmmoon, I wanted to thank you for your helpful and thoughtful advice. You answered one of my questions on the Lifetime board yesterday, and your suggestions for how to use the extra points on maintenance are very helpful to me. Thanks. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Hiker-Chick---You're very welcome! I saw that you had posted to me on that thread, but by the time I read it there were so many posts that I didn't think you'd get the response. Happy to offer advise anytime I can. julie

Thanks for pointing that out Moonie. It is a good point that gaining weight from a weekend of occasional overeating is vastly different for me than from gaining weight by binging on cookies. Back to the drawing board...breathe...breathe
