I posted this in the GLBT thread and thought it should be here too. I really like this exercise:
Water walking, running and aerobics are activities that take place in the diving pool or very deep end of a regular pool. Exercisers wear belts that keep them afloat, and "walk" or "run" back and forth. The pool folks claim that 1/2 hour of water walking/running equals 2 hours of the same on land--because the resistance of the dense, deep water is so much higher against your body.
In addition, you use more muscles to move through the water than you do on land, but you are not impacting your joints! So this is an especially good exercise for larger folk and/or people who have join issues which prevent them from doing regular exercise.

Count the exertion that you perceive and the amount of time that you do your work out, just like with any other exercise!
