Hey, great to have you here...check out the things in common thread and click on the cycling board. There are several there who also spin. Katie

Hi Marcia,
I teach spinning at the YMCA and it's an awesome workout!! You will sweat your butt off guaranteed! It's a stationary bike with a spin wheel. The seat and handlebars can be adjusted for your height. Most bikes have a tension or resistance knob. The class starts with a warmup and then progresses usually to an all terrain ride. (just like a real cyclist) The music is fun and upbeat and you can do lots of things on the bike like standing, seated climbs, jumps and sprints are just a few. When you first start out it's best to start out pedaling at your own pace. When you get too tired or can't keep up just back off the tension and ride like you are on a flat road. That's the beauty of cycling-you can go at your own level. It's your workout! Try it you will love it-most gyms that have group exercise have spinning or cycling. Wear padded bike shorts, bring water, a towel and wear cross trainer shoes.

Hey all! I just started spinning about a month ago and I have truly started to love it. How many times a week does everyone go? Right now I am shooting for 3 times.
Does anyone have any advice on spinning shoes? I tried some on yesterday (Shimado I think was the brand) at a cycling shop and they were really comfortable but they were $109 plus $19.99 for the clip. Does anyone know of any websites where you can get them discounted?

Shimano. You shouldn't have to spend $100 for cycling shoes. I spin in Shimano mountain bike shoes that were no more than 50 bucks. Fall is a great time to buy - everything's discounted! Get mountain bike shoes (not road bike shoes). They have a recessed cleat that allows you to walk more comfortably. Any moderately priced shoe will do for spinning. Make sure you get the right cleat system - check with your spin instructor. Most stationary bikes have SPD-compatible clips. Here are a couple of reasonably-priced options from reliable online sources: Bike Nashbar: tinyurl.com/yfl3hnREI: tinyurl.com/ykcvxgPerformance: tinyurl.com/yzzp2gGood luck!

All you Spinning gals....... anyone have any advice/ thoughts about how often you can & should Spin? I take a 60 minute class twice a week, and love it (love the music, love the sweat, LOVE the instructor!), but I've read that a person should change up their workout routine every 6-8 weeks. I use the elliptical machine & treadmill on non-Spinning days (but my knees hate me on the days I run!) I would be lost without my Spin classes..... any thoughts??

Hey Jonesy - I feel the same way. I am now stuck on spinning and absolutely love it. I am striving for 2-3 times a week but I think I need to add in some other stuff too. I do yoga also but that's about it. My problem I think is that I need to do it every other day and skip a day in between but the instructor I love teaches on Mondays and Tuesdays so I usually go both days. -Beth
