Giving away my age here, but I love the British invasion stuff from the mid-60's - the Beatles before they went psychedelic, the Rolling Stones. I also like Motown and Otis Redding. It's the stuff I used to dance to at college mixers when I was thin and had lots of energy.
I also have a few show tunes on my playlist.
I am going to try the zydeco stuff, because I'd like to get a different sound in my ears.

Question...if you have an ipod, do you still have to pay for whatever internet service to download the music from? What's the best service to use for getting the music? I've been thinking I should prolly have one since I'm such a music freak, but don't really know much about 'em.

Let me preface this by saying that I always hated techno, BUT-
my boyfriend snuck some loooooong techno songs on the MP3 player. I went to the gym, I was running along on the treadmill, deep in thought, and I just let the playlist roll. I really enjoyed the techno because it had a consistent steady beat, but no singing. It's nice to let the mind go like that...
Thump, thump, thump, thump. I have to be in the mood, though.
Oddly enough, I also really like running to slower ballads. I set the treadmill so I run fast enough, but it's useful to breathing pace deep and it's relaxing. Sometimes I just don't want to get all emotionally pumped.

I just posted this elsewhere, but wanted to add it to the official music category. Here's a great tool that lets you calculate beats per minute so you can make walking/running mixes on your music players:www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm

It depends on my mood. Some days it is disco, some days Motown, some days rock (Van Halen, Kiss, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Godsmack, Disturbed are particular favorites in that genre).
My favorite All-Star Workout on FitTV is Masala Bhangra, which uses dance moves and music like a Bollywood movie, which is totally addictive! If anyone has seen "Bend It Like Beckham", think of the wedding dance scene in that, and you'll get an idea of this workout. It's a blast!

Oooh, I love Bhangra. I listen to a Bhangra show that comes on once a day--even though I don't understand a word of Punjabi.
My mom bought the Masala tapes and sent me the second one. Neither me nor my DP can get more than 10 minutes through it without pooping out! Maybe someday.....
I also move to disco, hip hop, some electronic music and I LOVE funk. I could move to Parliament any day of the week!
