Hey everyone. It's been a long time. Like everything else, Core is a habit, and I've gotten out of the habits of journaling and going to meetings, and the practice of mindfulness with my food. I promised myself that after I did San Diego's 3Day Breast Cancer Walk (for which I initially intended to walk, but ended up medical crewing because there was such a need, and I'm so glad I did... it was a great time and I've already signed up to med crew again next year!!!). I finished that yesterday (we raised millions for breast cancer research, early detection, and outreach. I raised over $1,000.00. Remember to do your self breast exams every month ladies!!!). Okay lots of run-on sentences here. I finished the 3Day yesterday, and I'm back on Kippy's site this morning, and I'm on my way to re-register for meetings at 12:30. My weight has stayed steady at 130-132 (I'm only 5'1" (and a half!!!!!), so I'm about 10-15 lbs over what I would like to be. But, having turned the 4th decade corner, it seems that my adipose tissue (that's FAT!!!!) is rapidly replacing my muscle mass and I'm getting exponentially wigglier, flabbier, and larger. YUCK. When I was doing well on Core I felt SO GOOD in body, mind, and spirit, and that's the place I want to get back to. Journalling really helped me.
So here we go.... Coffee with real half-half (2) Late breakfast: chicken soup w/wild and brown rice. Hard boiled egg. Banana. Lunch: Core-legal cereal w/ soy milk, grapes Snack: ff popccorn, diet pepsi Dinner: salmon patties, broc, whole wheat pasta (3 APs), salad
Water iiiiii+ Vitamins y F/V iiii Dairy none!! gotta get in the habit again Whole Grains ii Protein ii Oil ii Sugar none APs: 3, walked 5 miles
PS signed up for meetings just down the road from my new house. The leader was good...energetic and experienced, and funny. Their scale reads much higher than mine...I weighed in at 137.6, then came home and weighed 132 on my scale. I'll go with their scale. It's all good.

Thanks Kate. It's good to be back.
So, today I went on a field trip with my daughter's 4th grade class to Whole Foods! They took us on a tour through the store and the back areas. The kids cracked us all up because most of the parents shop at least occasionally at Whole Foods, and several are vegetarian (just say no to that turkey bologna!!) and many knew about organic produce and bovine growth hormone, and 10 things to do with bulk lavender. The tour guide says, "who ARE you kids? You sound like little adults!" It was fun and they fed us lots of samples. My only indulgence was a fresh fig. Mmmmmmm. Most of the kids went yuck and tossed theirs. They went for the jamba juice and the vegan cookies. I walked around the store and planned my week's menu. Though I didn't get a chance to shop because we had to walk back to the school.
Here's what I got so far today: B: coffee w/ff milk, 0-pt tortilla (the la tortilla factory lo carb whole wheat ones) w/jalapeno yogurt cheese and a Dr Praegers veggie burger. L: leftover salmon w/ a bit of whole wheat pasta and fat free marinara D: I think I'll pick up a cooked chicken at Henry's and lots of veggies. Okay did it. Salad. Bit of sweet potato (2) Snacks: fresh fig, water, ff popcorn diet pepsi, large warm milk with cinnamon and splenda, apple.

Worked hard overnight and didn't eat a thing. Couple black coffees. Certainly didn't drink enough water. Today: Core-legal veggie barley soup-->sleep for a few hours-->dinner. Dinner=turkey meatballs over brown rice with fat free pasta sauce, sweet potato (2), cauliflower. Work nights and the following post call days are difficult for me. One thing I notice in writing down my food today is that I eat better on an incomplete core day than I ever did on a 'complete' pre-core day left to my own devices. Also, I was half-inclined to not count WPAs for the brown rice/sweet potato duo, and really I think that would be okay given the circumstances, but I'm trying to be ultra persnickety and scrupulous in these early days of core-return.

My 6yo climbed into my bed at about 2:30am, and I wasn't able to fall back to sleep, and I'm getting sick but doing the Zicam which really does work, oh then DS peed in my bed. And I have serious cramps today. Bleh. Okay, an attitude adjustment is in order. I am going to not listen to depressing NPR news on my way to work this morning. I will put on excellent music and fine tune my outlook. By the time I get to work I will be peppy and optimistic, ready for the day.
B: grapes, oatmeal with apples and ff milk, coffee w/ ff milk and stevia. L: black bean soup, 0-pt tortilla w/ yo cheese S: apple D: pizza and movie night. This will be a test. I have the points, I'll use the points, and I'll stay within the limits of my program. 2 small slices pizza (9) 1 non-alc beer (1) and big helping of salad planned, with Dreyers no-sugar added ice cream for dessert (4). I got me 29 WPAs to last through Sunday night. Work tomorrow so that will be no problem. Might want to save some for Sunday. Or maybe get some APs in over the weekend. Hmmmmmm, now there's an idea.

My pizza last night was far fewer points than I thought at first...I looked it up on Dottie's Weight Loss Zone (dwlz.com) and modified yesterday's entry. So I have 15 WPAs left for the weekend. What should I eat!? What should I eat?! B: core leftovers this'n'that mish-mash, coffee L: salad with no dressing because I forgot it, 1/2 bagel w/a bit of cream cheese (4) D: eggs, turkey meatball, quinoa, non-alc beer (1)

Home sick today, but turning the corner. Did make it to weigh in, however, and I'm down 3.6 lbs. Part of that is the fact that I haven't been eating much in the last day, but I'll take it. So far today: coffee w/ nf evap milk, banana, two eggs, leftover pasta sauce with lean sirloin, 0-pt tortilla, slice yo-cheese. later on...popcorn, carrots. D: sauteed shrimp, quinoa (I've decided shrimp and quinoa don't go well together. the textures don't work), broc, roasted, sliced potatos.

Hi, I just read your post about having your child in bed and all. It sure brought back memories. My "baby" is now 19. Yikes where did the time go. Our kids learned to wake dad up first cuz mom was crabby when I woke up out of a solid sleep. Glad to hear you're feeling better. Take care and have a great day. Katie

Well Katie, all I can say is that I hope that by the time my son is 19 he stops peeing in the bed. A Mom's greatest hope, eh? I am such a light sleeper that I'm awake before the kids even get to my door. Otherwise, waking Dad up first would be perfect....for me! I am feeling much better. I think the bacterial/viral part of this thing is over, but I can feel the inflammation setting in in my lungs. I get intractable asthma after a respiratory infection every year without fail. The plan this year was to do a prednisone burst immediately after the first cold to prevent the onset of asthma, so I'm going to start that tomorrow, after two days of prilosec to help prevent the severe GERD I get with prednisone. What a production the whole thing is. I'll do it, though, because the alternative isn't pretty. If anyone reads my journal from last winter it's an ongoing litany of health woes that I'm determined to avoid this year. In the meantime, kids are at school. I work tonight, so I'm going back to bed soon for a little while.
B: eggs, yo-cheese, apple L: veggie soup (aaaah the best layed plans...let's just say that I MINDFULLY ate the blondie in lieu of the nutritious soup...6pts) Snack: grapes, diet pepsi, shredded wheat, ff milk D: precooked chicken, lots of veggies, ww pasta overnight: core whatever if I have time.

Jeepers, I go one day without journaling and I get bumped to the 2nd page. I better get busy. I'm at a conference in Phoenix and trying hard to stay OP. It's a little hard, but I'm making good choices. Yesterday was an all core day. I can't remember what I ate but it was all good, though probably short on veggies. Today I've had core travel foods...fruit, soymilk, shredded wheat. I had 8 tortilla chips for a point and guacamole and salsa that I hope had no oil in it but I'll call it a point to be safe. There's a big reception thing tonight and I'm assuming I'll be able to find plenty of salads and veggies and lean proteins. If not, I did bring some pinch hit foods from home, like a pouch of tuna and stuff like that in case I get desperate. I won't stay long at the reception. I am very tired and, this is so silly, but we don't watch actual tv in my house, only a movie once a week, and I am so excited to crawl into bed be able to watch tv tonight!!! Without my kids!!!! Like the history channel or discovery. I swear if I had cable I would watch documentaries all day long and never get a thing done. How pathetic, lol. Anyway, I'll check in tomorrow. It'll help me stay mindful about my food. It's nice to know that, wherever I am, this support (ie, you all) is available to me.

Okay. I'm back home. I did really well at this conference, and I have to say I am rather proud of myself because everywhere one looked at this thing there were buffets of tempting, non-Core foods. I can honestly say I made the best possible choices, and my one indulgence was a pre-meditated slice of cheesecake. The rest of the time I sought out the salads, veggies, fruits, and lean proteins. I counted points for every non-Core food (like the white rice california rolls), and tended to add a point to each serving of even the seemingly Core choices because of probable extra oil (there were many sautees). I used every last one of my WPAs, don't think I went over. If nothing else, I "practiced maintaining" as my leader says. My regularly scheduled weigh-in today is being interrupted by work, so on Wed. I'll see what the results of my efforts are. If I have maintained, I'll be happy.
Here's today: B: coffee w/ half&half (1), banana, apple, melon, oatmeal w/nf milk early lunch: ww pasta, turkey burger late lunch: big salad with garbanzo beans and hardboiled egg, oil & vinegar D: split pea soup Snack: flu shot, ff pudding, banana
I hope I don't eat anymore today. It's all been Core, but I just keep wanting to fill my face with food. Why, when I was at all these buffets, did I not have a hard time staying Core, but today, now that I am in a more controlled and controllable setting, I am struggling? It's a rhetorical question. I know the answer. It's slow at work. I'm bored. I eat when I'm bored. Simple.

Eeeeek. I used every last one of my WPAs this evening at a celebratory staff meeting. On 1 1/2 slices veggie deep dish pizza, and a slice of unbelievably delicious white chocolate cheesecake. And weigh-in is tomorrow. What's a girl to do? Face facts, I guess, and stay 100% core until <gasp> next Monday. Unless I excercise. Which I guess I may have to do. Other food today: B: coffee w/ nf milk, TJs high fiber twig cereal w/nf milk L: 0-pt tortilla w/yo-cheese and an egg S: granny smith apple, 1/2 pear, another little red apple
