Have any of you heard of this before? My sister was telling me about it today. She said that for every 50 boxes of food sold one of them gets donated to the church for free to donate to needy families. She said the program is for the rich and poor alike to help on their grocery bills. It sounded like a nice way to spend some of my grocery money. Its all over the US. If your interested you can google it. But basically you get about $50 worth of groceries for $25. If they dont sell enough they cant do the program...Doing the program helps needy people in the area that need reduced groceries..anyway I thought it was kinda neat. Hope its ok that I post this here..I dont get anything out of it. www.angelfoodministries.com/menu.php

I used to work for a non-profit that originated this idea. It was called SHARE (Self-Help and Resource Exchange). We would purchase food in bulk, break it down into small packages and distribute it through a network of community centers and churches. People would pay $13 and promise to contribute 2 hours of volunteer work in their community. In exchange they would receive about $25-35 worth of food.
I ran the office for about 4 years. It was not a religous based organization although it was backed by the AFSC (American Friends Service Organization - Quakers) in our area. It finally went out of business because food prices were just getting too high and the value was no longer that great.
I am glad to see the idea still flourishing.

We have Angel Food Ministries in our town and I have used it before...especially when my adult son was living with us. You get very high quality foods. You have to go and sign up for it and pay and then pick it up at a later date, once a month.
I have also purchased them for needy families myself and delivered them. You can buy more than one unit, say two of them for a larger family....spend $50. dollars and it goes a long ways.
Ours gives you a basic list of what you will be getting, and it varies every month. It is such a good program.
