Hi i have been doing core for two months now and really like it. Are there any other nurses out there doing this too?

I am not a nurse, but my mom is, and I'm curerntly applying to nursing school. My mom is also a Kippy member, but I don't think that either of us has been on for awhile. I'll let her know about this thread, but her computer broke this week so I don't know how long it will be until she can log back on.

Hi, I am a Labor and Delivery nurse, and I have been doing core for over a year. I lost well at first, but have slowed down (you could even say plateaued) for at least 8 months. I have trouble staying with the program when I get stressed, and I get stressed a lot a work. There are also lots of temptations around work. It can be very frustrating, but I am still committed, and plodding along. I consider core to be a lifestyle change, and something I can do for the rest of my life. Even when I slip, I can get back to it easily. What type of nursing do you do? Jan

I'm not a nurse but a hospital-employed health professional. Hospitals are notorious for food temptations, aren't they? Especially those greatful families who give candy to the staff as a way of thanking them!
I agree, Chani, that core is more challenging when you are stressed. I find it much harder to pay attention to my comfort zone and not mindlessly eat when I am stressed. But I stuck with core through a very long plateau (over a year) as I was determined to master the skill of managing my weight during stressful periods. I got back to goal then gained 10 lbs during a very stressful period, and am now, after 6 months of a plateau during the stress, finally getting it back off. I've come to view maintaining during a plateau as a reasonable and acheivable goal, and is kind of like treading water or damage control until I am ready to go back into losing mode. Better than gaining during the stress and having more to lose when it ends.

Oh yes, you are so right. I am working at viewing a plateau the same way, as maintaining. I also look at weight loss (and maintance) as my lifetime work, and if I have small detours, it does not change the big picture. I will be doing this for my lifetime.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. My name is Karen. I work nights part-time in ICU. Talking about stressful. This is my second week on core. I plan on making it a lifestyle change.
My hardest times are at 3 in the morning and after I wake up from a nap, following the shift. I have been trying to plan my meals ahead of time. Seems to be helping.
Take care, Karen
