I have dabbled in yoga for years, very sporadically. In the past few months, I find myself increasingly interested in the many facets of the practice, in addition to the physical (asana) practice. I've been learning about ayurveda, doshas, nutrition, "right" thinking, chakras, mantras, mudras and all sorts of very cool stuff.
I must say that I think a lot of the philosophy fits very nicely with Core eating and the Healthy Guidelines (for instance 'eating to satisfaction'), not to mention the ways that many of us are trying to understand the not-physical aspect(s) of hunger and eating. And, speaking of physical... asana practice is GREAT exercise!
Does anyone else practice? Are you interested in learning more/sharing more/discovering? So...how about some yoga chat!

Hi Sulee,
I don't know if I'm anyone to be giving advice as I've only "dabbled" as well, but I'd love to hear what other people have to say...
Right now I am not practicing with a teacher (if at all. yikes!) but I have a few books that I like to work from.
how about you?

Hi Jeanne,
Happy Thanksgiving.
I felt so lucky last night that my yoga studio had class. It felt like the perfect centering activity to help me approach today's food fest successfully. Plus the asana practice was, as always, so invigorating.
One thing that i have really been looking at for myself is the notion of insatiability. The vedic view of overeating is that it come from an effort to quell a sense of fearfulness... not horror film type of stuff... but for me, fear of deprivation, fear of failure, fear of what my life might look like if I REALLY lived it as a thin person, to name a few!
I really agree with people who note that the first few tastes of a food are the truly enjoyable ones, the subsequent eating is just an effort to return to the pleasure of those early bites. I am going to try today to truly enjoy what ever food I decide to eat, in limited quantities.
I feel really thankful that I am learning to adjust my mindset. I think it may help me be more successful in my quest to carry less fat and look on the outside like the fit and vital person I want to be.
I hope you, and everyone else, has a great day!

I practiced yoga with 2 different teachers, the first one was my introduction to yoga. All I felt was, it was a stretch class I wasn't comfortable in and so quit going. Then when I was going to the local health club I decided to try again after everyone raved about it. I now understand yoga and the instructor made it fun and after a month of once a week, I saw significant changes in my body. Unfortunately, I no longer belong to the health club and have learned anyway she had moved on also. I would love to find another instructor, I have some tapes but haven't tried them yet. Still searching.... I highly recommend yoga and Pilate's!
