Are there any of you out there? I am a firefighter and would love to chat it up with other peace officer type folks out there.

Welcome to the board. It is nice to have some uniformed folks to talk with. How long have you been a probation officer?

I'm not a firefighter, police or sherriff and I don't even play one on TV. I do have tremendous admiration for those protecting the public safety. Don't know anyone here in NY who didn't discover deeper sense of appreciation for all of you after 9/11. Had to share this article with you--thought of Xena and others when I caught this headline about female firefighters in this morning's NY Times. Link won't work after about a week unless you pay, so read fast. Haven't read the whole thing, so can't vouch for the message in the article. Hope to find time to read it later tonight or tomorrow. www.nytimes.com/2006/01/23/national/23fire.html

Thanks! The article made the rounds through our city yesterday. I have worked on an all female crew many times. It's usually a pretty fun day.

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for 10 years...and was on a volunteer fire/rescue dept for awhile, cert as an EMT. Then I had children! :) My husband is a f-t Paramedic, so I know the life of emergency workers. Holidays are the worst, especially with kids, that's why I chose another occupation.
