Good job Monica. Don't you love not paying? My goal is to go free for at least as many weeks as I paid in and that's quite a long while.

So I was thinking about what Kate said in the AFC board and thought it would be a good question to pose to our Maintenance Circle.
How do you set goals while maintaining? Do you...or is part of being at goal is not having to set more of them. Is goal setting important to success at maintenance? Etc.

I try to focus on fitness goals when in maintenance mode -- earning X number of APs per week, or doing X number of minutes of high intensity cardio, or walking/riding X number of miles, for example. I have, in the past, worked on lowering my body fat % as another "quantifiable" goal. You can also pick a behavior that you're "slippery" on, such as drinking your water, or getting 5+ fruits/veggies, or eliminating post-dinner snacking, or challenging negative thoughts, and focus on that behavior for a week.

Yay Monica! You are my Core hero.
Hmmm, setting goals in maintenance is tricky. So far, I've continued to set small weight loss goals, since I haven't really reached my personal goal yet. But I think the goal of maintaining is a really good goal in itself!

WI at 162.2 this morning. So I am still at goal! This is almost as exciting as losing!

I think setting goals in maintenance mode is a good way to stay on track. Even if the goal is to maintain your weight! You have to have something to work towards, in my opinion.
Right now my goal is no sweets. No cookies, chocolates, muffins, cake, pie, nothing of the sort! I've never been huge on sweets but I find that my taste buds have been changing and I need to stay away for now!

I love to set exercise goals, especially running races and getting a better time than the previous race. Right now I'm really into spinning and am trying to see how many calories I can burn based on which spin teacher teaches the class. I love my heartrate monitor because it really makes exercise fun and goals easier to set and reach.

Sometimes just setting a daily goal is enough. I've had a rough few weeks, but have the luxury of not going to work today. So just for today, my goals are to eat only Core foods, to walk at least 15,000 steps, and to go to the gym. Kind of a detox day . . .

Hi, Gals -- my home scale ( consistent with the WW center scale) said 133.5 today -- which would be 1/2 lb above goal for me. I've been working at getting back down to goal for a while, now, so it really would be lovely if that number holds until Sunday's WI. I love getting a good sign like that, though, because even if it doesn't hold, that's the lowest number I've seen in a long time, so I know I'm still heading in the right direction. Hope you're all feeling positive and encouraged today, too.

Wow sometimes this maintenance thing is hard. I am holding my weight but I feel like I am eating too much. I haven't really been following core too strickly...or not at all. I have been hitting the sugar again. Because of that I am sure I am going to regain all at once.
The good news is that I am sticking to the exercise (4 hours a week) and that is probably the only reason I am maintaining at all.
Do any of you maintain and not do core? It is crazy to try that? Am I delusional? Should I just stick to the program? Am I thinking too hard.... help...

Cynthia, you've just explained the crux of maintaining. It's hard... hard to pinpoint exactly what you need to do to maintain. I follow core mostly, I don't worry anymore about having just one serving of pasta, potato, rice. I make sure I start my day with a core breakfast, have a core lunch, and usualy supper is core also. My downfall is having sweet snacks during the day. I make sure I have more core days than not during a week, and I keep a rough(very rough) estimate on WPA. You are not delusional, and I don't think you are thinking too hard. You have to for a few weeks to get on a good routine for you. Maintainence is deffinately an individual thing. You will figure it out. I totally understand how you feel about sugar. I also start to feel that everything will come right back on in one mouthful, but I eat it anyway. Comming to the realization that you will need to be mindful of what you eat for the rest of your life takes some getting used to. You are doing great and will continue to do great. Take a deep breath, relax and let your body get used to this weight. HIHO Take care Katie

Hey all, I just wanted to share how I did on my "moms only" trip that I just took. I met my former college roomies in Georgia and then we drove to Charleston, SC for some R&R. We do this every 2 years. I was gone for 5 days.
Anyways, I was hoping to workout in the hotel fitness center, but we ended up doing a TON of walking so I didn't need to!! I wore my pedometer and we racked in the steps!! We didn't snack, but ate fruit for breakfast each morning, a nice lunch, and then a light dinner each night. It was great!!!
Yesterday my scale showed that I lost a pound when I was gone and today it showed just a 1/2 lb. loss. Either way, I'm proud of how I ate. I ordered semi-healthy meals and drinks, but didn't stressout about eating too much. We talked so much that most of the time I let the waiter take away my plate even though I was only half finished with my meal!!! We also drank a ton of water at the restaurants.
It was a great trip and I'm pretty proud of myself for maintaining while I was gone!!!
;D Monica
