Hi everyone...
I'm a Lifetimer, and have been doing Core for the past seven weeks, in order to get back to my Lifetime goal weight. Today at my WW meeting I weighed in at my goal weight (yipee!). I asked the person weighing me what adjustments I should make for maintenance on Core, and she told me there are no changes! So I continue with 35 WPA's? She said yes, but she didn't seem very confident in her answer.
I just find that a little odd. I thought you got more points to play with. I think 35 is difficult to work with if you want to go out to dinner occasionally, or enjoy a glass of wine each evening. Those points can disappear pretty quickly. But if that's the way it is, that's the way it is.
Can any of you can confirm what I was told today? Thanks...

I was told to add 28 more WPA's (7 per day) to my 35 to start. Then each week you weigh in and either increase or decrease that depending on if you are gaining, losing, or maintaining. Eventually you will get to a level of maintenance that works for you.
FYI - it's the same as Flex maintenance as far as adding points.

Jen, I was told the same thing as Rita. Strange that your receptionist didn't tell you to add more points.....Monica

Yes, I agree with the others. Add some pts, and evaluate weekly until your weight stabilizes.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I have found that with the 35 WPA's I have to be really stict about choosing a restaurant to go to. I think if I had to face a lifetime of only 35 pts. my husband would quickly lose patience with this whole program, and so would I! I normally stay within 35 pts., but it would be nice to know you could go to a nice restaurant and have the points available to order regular menu items, without being completely obsessive about eating only Core foods! Am I making sense? What I mean is, at home, I do strictly Core and have no problem with it; in fact, I enjoy the foods I'm eating. But I'd like to be able to relax just a bit when going out for a special meal. So I'm glad to hear what you all have to say. Those extra seven points a day would come in handy for special occasions. I wonder why I didn't get the same information. Hmmmm!

You are right Jen, about how the extra WPA points makes the program livable for the long term. You don't get to go back to your old habits when you get to goal, but you do get more leeway with what you eat. Only a little, but for me it has been enough to make the program livable for the long term.
You add an additional 28 points to your WPA (sorry to correct the math, but that's 4/day on average, not 7). If you continue to lose for two weeks with the increased WPA, you add another 14. If you essentially maintain your weight, you don't make any changes, and if you gain for 2 weeks in a row, you decrease the points by 14.
Interestingly, and in contrast to the way it works on the e-tools screens, you are supposed to do the same thing on flex, add 28 to your WPA (where as before you were supposed to increase your daily total target.). For the most part, it's an accounting difference, but depending on big splurges in one day and activity points, it could be different.

Ema - thanks for the correction regarding the 28 wpa's: (sorry to correct the math, but that's 4/day on average, not 7). I hate that I made that simple error. It's not like me. Oh well - glad you caught it.

Thanks Ema and Rita for the detailed info. For the most part I've been very comfortable with the 35 pts., and I don't usually use my exercise points. (My leader does the opposite - she only eats the exercise points in a day, and saves the 35 for special outings, etc. Whatever works...) It will be nice to have those extra 28 to use on occasion.

Jen...how successful have you been at this? I am beginning maintenance tomorrow. Planning on keeping a very close eye on my WPAs. Nice to know the extra 28 are there.
Having been a WW for more than 30 years...this is definately a maintenance plan that I think I can live with.

Sunshine... I have been very successful so far in maintaining my weight, but I'm very relaxed about it. What I eat every day on a routine basis is pretty set by now. I make sure to get at least three servings of calcium per day, whole grains, fruits & veggies, usually a sandwich for lunch and a more standard meat/potato or meat/brown rice with salad or veggie for dinner. I have wine almost every night with dinner. I am not counting any points. When I do go out for a meal I try to relax the rules a bit, but I don't eat very much at a time so I usually don't finish my plate. One night we went out to a nice restaurant and my husband talked me into ordering dessert. I felt so awful afterward from over-eating, it was just not worth it! I will definitely not do that again.
I very rarely eat anything with sugar, and then only a bite. I don't trust myself with any more than that. My biggest sin is snacking on 94% popcorn sprinkled with Splenda; I do that a lot. I am still a snacker and that's just how it is.
At first I went in every week for weigh-in; now I'm weighing once a month. I exercise regularly at a gym.
The core foods program is definitely something I can easily do for ever. My husband is still trying to grasp that fact, though. Today, we went for lunch at a mexican restaurant where in the past I would have filled up on the chips - yum! Today I ate about three chips, and only after he said I should relax a little. Frankly, chips are just not worth it. I only could finish less than half of my shrimp fajita, and he'll have the rest for dinner. So bottom line, I am not a very strict core maintenance person, but so far this is working well for me and I can live with it. If my weight creeps up, I'll just count again for a while, and maybe cut back on that popcorn! =D

Jen...thanks so much for the reply. I'm so glad it is working for you and that you are able to relax about what you eat. That is where I want to be.
Mine WW journey has been a long one. I always get to where I want to be and then slowly creep up to just above my actual WW goal. From there it is "Katie, bar the doors." I eat until I am disgusted with myself and then go back to attending meetings and losing weight. Seems like losing is much easily than maintaining.
This time will be different! This time I will do it!
Thanks again.

Hopefully, this time will be different. You need to rephrase that. Take out the word "hopefully", and tell yourself it WILL be different this time! Positive self-talk can make a big difference in your success. If you think you can, you will do it!

I love Core and find the maintenance points work for me. I'm confused about the exercise points...do we have that option on maintenance plus the extra points over our WPA ?
