Forgive me if this is an incredibly basic question, but I don't know what the various icons and symbols on the forum main (index?) page and individual posts mean. A few of them give me a meaning when I put my cursor over them, but not all. Is there any key to their meanings? I looked in help already and didn't find it there.
Thanks for a wonderful resource you are building here.

Sure.
On the main page with all the forums listed, there are folders with different color circles overlying them.
On the first page of the individual forum chosen (like suggestion box) there are two colums on the far left of the screen. One has folders. Some folders are plain. Others have a red thing overlying them. Some seem to have something moving in them. The next column has something that looks like a piece of paper.
On the actual messages, some peoples messages have clusters of little icons on the left of the message, near their picture and other personalization.
I think those were all the ones mystifying me. Sorry I wasn't clear or specific enough in the first query.

OK, let's see, these are things I never pay attention to, so I didn't know what you meant contains unread messages. messages have been read. indicates a poll indicates a "sticky" or "thumbtacked" post. It will always stay at the top. indicates a "hot" thread, 2 or more pages long. means a standard post. You can change this icon to one of 11 different icons in the drop down box labeled "Message icon" when you write a post. I changed the one on this post to an exclamation point this means a post has been locked, usually because it has been moved. click on this to send someone a private message. This board has a private message system, check your mailbox daily, top of your screen. I will PM you! click this to e-mail someone using their regular e-mail. click on this to instant message someone using AIM. this means the poster is a female. male, we only have one at the moment, MrTim click on this to visit the poster's homepage. indicates they have Yahoo instant messenger. opi.yahoo.com/online?u=ask me&m=g&t=0[/img] I'm not sure, but I think these 2 indicate whether or not their Yahoo messenger is online at the moment. indicates they have ICQ I think that's it.

Pookie- the chart is exactly the kind of guide I wanted to the icons. I think you covered them all. Thanks for also giving me a chance to test out the private messaging function. I'll go do that next.
Finally, thanks for acknowledging my success. It's taken me a long time to be able to take pride in my accomplishment without being overwhelmed with shame that such an accomplishment was ever needed.
You look like you are solidly in the groove making progress toward your goal. This seems like a wonderful community of people, and I'm very glad to have discovered it.
