I bought a crockpot and have used it 5 times. Each time it has either over cooked the meal to the point of me refusing to serve/eat it or I stopped it a few hours ahead of time so the meal wouldnot burn. Most of the recipes on this board sound great. I was wondering if any one has just combined the ingredients and cooked it as a casserole? Did it work? Maybe if I just switch back to a more conventional way I can make some of these meals work.
If not do you have any recommendations on how to twick my crockpot to work effectively?

Does your crockpot have adjustable heat settings? Some don't at all, some have low and high and some have many variations (the newer and more expensive ones).
If you can't adjust the heat, and you're making something with a soup/stew consistency, you may find that just adding some extra liquid or stirring a few times will help keep it from burning. Those are the only kind of things that I make in mine (except for the famous crockpot rotisserie chicken), and I find that the liquid content when I start is key.
