This is a great snack!! I have had it at the movies, football games, parties, car rides, you name it, even my hubby likes it (that's alway the test!) I either lightly salt mine or add soy or teryika (sp?) sauce. I have found it at Sam's in the freezer section or at Kroger in the health food section or by the sushi counter. Enjoy!

Kammi, It is acutally soy beans, so they are high in protein and fiber. They are in a pod and look like sugar snap peas from the outside a little bit. You don't eat the outside just the peas inside. here is a picture...hopt that helps! agsyst.wsu.edu/plate.jpgJ

I got this recipe from wholefoodsmarket.com I have not made this but tasted it at Whole Foods Deli and loved it.
Edamame Salad with Herbs
4 large garlic cloves, unpeeled 1 bag (16 oz) shelled edamame beans 1/2 teasp salt (for taste) 1 cup ff plain yogurt 1/4 cup chopped fresh flat leaf parsley 2 tab. finely diced red bell pepper 1 tab. thinley sliced fresh basil 2 teas. balsamic vinegar Bibb or Boston lettuce leaves for serving
Roast the garlic in an ungreased skillet over medium heat, turning frequently until softened (they will have dark splotches in spots). about 15 minutes. Cool and slip off the papery skins. Boil the edamame beans in salted water to cover until tender, about 5 minutes. Drain. Mix the beans and remaining ingredients. Add salt to taste, ususlly about 1/2 teas. Serve the salad on lettuce leaves.

Thanks for posting the salad recipe. I love edamame plain, too, but the salad would be a nice change.

I do not like anything that looks like bean -no red beans, no black beans and surely no lima beans! I got really brave and tried edamame (lightly salted). Wow, they are really good! Who knew?!!!? ;D

How big of a container of edamame did you find at Sam's? How much was it? I have seen it frozen at Kroger. I have bought it fresh at Target. It's really really good. I like it because it has a mild flavor to it. Sheila

The container I get has 4.5 servings, and each serving is 1.2 cup of edamame "meat" - but since they come unshelled, it's probably close to 6 cups total, and a good deal for $3, or thereabouts. I've also bought it at Trader Joe's before, but there's are like $2.50 for approx. half the amount, so it's definitely worth it at costco. If I want it already shelled, though, I do get it frozen at trader joe's.

My grocery sells them frozen in the pod and not in the pod. I have been unsure about getting the ones not in the pod because I was concerned the texture might not be the same. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
