Hi dd,
i used abf-u-pack. They deliver a large/ empty tractor trailer and leave the trailer on your street/in your yard and then you fill it. They pick it up the next day and then deliver it 7-10 days hence. SO you need people on either end to load/unload. They also provide a ramp, at an additional fee if you have a smaller move, and a large barrier that you finish your move with, to prevent too much shifting and to keep your stuff indpendent from other things they may load the trailer with.
I looked into uhaul and tradtional movers and i saved a boat load of $ this way (btw, this option was cheaper than u-haul, too and i didn't have to drive a scary truck myself across the country.)
i also found the drivers and the people at the offices were extremely helpful and friendly. the driver at this end wouldn't take a tip, for instance, when I offered him one for really working to get the trailer practically inside my house!
good luck... moving pretty much sucks no matter how you decide to get your stuff transported!

Ugh, moving. I had a bad experience with United Van Lines four years ago.

One of are friends just moved, and after pricing out moving companies, they decided it would be cheaper to just sell off their furniture and just by new stuff when they got there. They rented a small u-haul to carry the rest of the stuff.
When my husband and I moved, we rented 2 big U-Hauls and payed someone to drive one. If you pack yourself, just make sure everything is wrapped tight and covered in moving blankets. Furniture tends to rub against each other, which causes a lot of damage. Also, get take out some extra insurance for your things in case something should go wrong.
