Hey, can I join this party??? ;D I got a little (OK, A LOT!!!!!) sloppy with Core on my 2 week Christmas vacation and I've been in losing mode ever since then. I've started journaling again (for the last few weeks) and it has helped immensely!!! I'm just about back to where my WW meetings are free again. Monica

It has really hit home this morning what an important role all of you at kippy's have played in my weight loss journey. You all supported me whether it was by direct comments or by what you posted to someone else and I read it. I am so thankful for being able to be a part of this community. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that my success in maintaining is directly related to the support on these boards too. Eventhough we have never met in person and probably don't even know actual names I feel that I have a tremendous friendship and bond with all of you. Thank you for that. Having the common goal of weight loss and maintenance is what has brought us together. Mutual respect and support will keep us together. Have a great day Katie

Nicely said Kate. I couldn't have said it more eloquently. ;D
QUESTION: How do you all define maintenance? At what point does a weight gain mean you are not maintaining any more? I have gained and loss the same twenty lbs in a calendar year and I would most definitely not call that maintaining even though I am at the same weight as 12 months ago.
I want to create a working definition of "maintenance" so I can know if I am being successful at it.

Kate, that was beautiful. I couldn't agree more. I don't know much about WW or maintenance, but here's my 2 cents: According to WW doesn't a 3 lb. gain mean "you didn't maintain" (within a reasonable range from your goal weight) and you have to work at getting the 3 lbs. off to get back to your goal # again? You have 2 lbs. leeway , that's OK, I guess any amount down is OK? Do we want to go by the WW definition of maintenance in our little Circle (we are all on WW... ) or make up our own??

Hello all! I'm glad to see this post! I've been in maintenance mode since July or so and not to scare anyone but at times I find it harder than losing!!
I think it's hard to define how many lbs you gain before being considered not on maintenance. If you go on a 2 week vacation and gain 5 lbs - I know WW would consider you no longer maintaining - but I think that's part of maintenance.

I guess you also have to look at how often you are weighing in and when it "counts". With WW you have to weigh in once a month once you are on lifetime...right? So maybe the first WI of the month (or after my TOM would be best) would be the one that counts toward being within that weight limit. I agree with angel that there are definitely times when the 5 lb bump will occur (maybe) but then maybe maintenance would be getting back from the trip and IMMEDIATELY refocusing on losing the five before they become ten. Or even better losing 5 lbs. before the trip...now there is an idea ;D I am trying to create a definition for myself that is flexible enough to not create failure but rigid enough to give me solid boundaries and guide my actions. Hmmm....... Got to go workout...keep posting everyone...this stuff is great!

Cynthia, I have a number that I will NEVER let myself get above -- I will NEVER let myself get back into the 140s. Okay, maybe I'll have to reevaluate that after menopause, but I hope not. Meantime, sometimes my weight will vary a bit (3 or 4 lbs) during maintenance, but I know when that's just normal fluctuation and when it's a gain due to overeating/underexercising. As you go along, you'll get the hang of that "swing" range for your body, too. Maybe it's 2 lbs, maybe it's a bit more, but there's a difference between that kind of thing and a real gain. That said, I know that when I've got a real gain working, it's time to get into w. l. mode, as I have been for about 2 months. When I see the scale creep up, I know it's time to cut back on my WPA and otherwise be scrupulous with the plan, but it's not that different from maintenance mode, just fewer points to play with. . . .
