My meeting is tonight, and I'd like to thank you all for your suggestions and comments. I have a list ready and a plan of attack to get the discussion to include Core. I plan to assume the role of Core Advocate and chant Core Rocks, Core Rocks, which I think it does. As Nightsinge pointed out, this is the perfect time of year with all the fresh veggies and fruits available to promote the health aspects of the program. I also plan to remind people, as Cydkitty mentioned, that you can be within points or staying with Core, but still not be on program, You HAVE to follow the 8 healthy guidelines. My thought is since that addresses both plans, everyone will be included. Maybe we can have a group discussion rather than a two-way dialogue. Nightsinge - a few weeks ago I did ask my leader to discuss Core in the meetings, but so far no luck. I have considered writing a letter to WW, but am kind of new and didn't want to make waves so soon. I'm glad to hear Core is helping you manage your blood sugar. My mother is pre-diabetic; I compared her diet with Core and saw many similarities. I'll let you know tomorrow how tonight's meeting goes. Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to respond. Evy

Last night, for the first time since I joined Weight Watchers in April, our leader finally mentioned Core during a meeting. The reference was a small one. It appeared as a footnote – “Core Approved” at the bottom of the weekly recipe, but it was a beginning. As usual, last night’s discussion focussed on Flex and quickly digressed into an analysis of point values of items found on the Carl’s Jrs. menu. This continued for about half the meeting. Someone did report that she met her daily oil requirement by using low-fat salad dressing on Carl’s “Salad-to-Go.” That seemed like an opportunity to move the subject to Core or at least towards nutrition. I asked how others fit the various food groups into their diets. People who seldom, if ever, participate contributed, and we were soon talking about a variety of concerns, mostly related to nutrition. I thought it was a perfect time to extol some of the advantages of Core, so I did. Admittedly, only I spoke about Core, but people were listening. The leader was silent during the discussion, which, I suspect, was because she had nothing to offer. Maybe now she’ll do her homework, and we can have some informative meetings. The ice has been broken, and there is hope.

good job!! That's exactly what you need to do to get the party rolling. Interestingly, last night at my meeting a recipe was mentioned and I said that's a core dish and the questions started. My leader said Katie why don't you share what you eat on Core and answer these questions. So I did, the discussion lasted about 10 minutes. We do now have several people on Core at our meetings, but the majority are still flexers. People get hung up on no bread and eat till satilfied. They don't have confidence that they can listen to their bodies needs. Hopefully more will try the Core plan at least. Keep on singing Core praises and as you have continued success others will really pay attention. Katie

Yay for you--that's wonderful!
Boy, I do NOT like how your leader is so flex-focused. WW does not want their meetings to be about either one specifically.
Evy = Leader in the making!!!!

"Evy = Leader in the making!!!!" LOL. I'll take that as a compliment, Nightsinge. Katie - I agree with you that people don't trust their ability to stop eating when satisfied, which is why so many diets list and limit serving sizes. During the meetings, I hear a lot of people asking "how much of that can you have?", etc. I think this idea would make a good topic for a future meeting. CYDKitty mentioned in an earlier post that her instructor emphasizes "mindful over 'comatose' eating", which I think is an excellent way to phrase what is at the core of most weight problems (please excuse the pun). If anyone has suggestions for how to get a discussion on this started at a meeting, I'd be very interested in your sharing them. It would be a great way to further promote Core and give me an excuse to chant my new mantra: "Core Rocks!" I hope everyone has a great weekend.
