I've never done artificial sweeteners, and I gave up soda of all kinds in the mid 80's. (I used to work in the hotel business and one day pouring my ? soda from the soda gun, I thought......gawd how many of these have I had today?) So I went to setlzer and cranberry, then to setzer and lime, to plain seltzer, to plain water.
When I need something sweetened, I use sugar. But that is pretty rare, and even rare-er now on Core. My down fall was things made with sugar, cookies, pies, baked goods of all kinds.
Really the first week of Core, I thought I needed something after dinner, so I'd make a pot of flavored coffee. That seemed to do the trick for me.
Funny I haven't had a sugar craving since the second week in November.......until today.......I wanted it. BUT I just let it pass. I think its like anything, the longer you go without, the farther between the cravings will be. They may never go away, but they get less.....

My cravings tend to be more along the lines of a Big Mac or an Arby's Beef and Cheddar. I become obsessed with it. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure it will, and I want to be proactive by having a plan ready. I figure I can work those in occasionally with the flex points. Good plan, or bad?

Kel, I think it's a good plan. That's what the WPAs are for! I would also think about "smaller" or lower point alternatives. For example, instead of a Big Mac, a cheeseburger; or half a Big Mac (Although I have a lot of trouble eating half of ANYTHING! I want it all!!!), or even a Big Mac without the cheese.

Half a Big Mac? Maybe some day, but I really don't think I could do that now -- lol?
My mother, on the other hand, can take one of those little Snickers bars (not the fun size, but the next size up), cut it in half, and leave part of that half!
Maybe some day I'll be able to do something like that. And maybe some day a bite or two will satisfy my cravings. I hope.

Greetings... I am having a problem with craving Bread... I juat can't seem to over come the craving. I want a pipping hot piece of homemade bread. before core I made fresh bread at least 3 times a week this is me favorite...I don't miss the sugar at all and I even find that fresh fruit NOW seems so much sweeter than before. but the bread I would die for. I trashed all of the flour and yeast in my kitchen as it was a trigger... anyone else with this problem.....Help

First, some questions for you. You say you made fresh bread three times a week. So how much bread did you eat in one day? And how did you eat it? Dripping with butter, slathered with peanut butter, or just plain? See...you can still make bread and eat it, but you have to count points for it. Be honest with yourself. Is it a trigger food? Do you eat half a loaf at a time? Or could you eat one slice, count points for it, and be done for the day? So...option #1 is to eat your fresh bread, but in a Coresponsible way... Option #2 is to find a safer substitute. I'll tell you, I really dislike the "diet" breads that are 40 calories each. I'd rather pass on the sandwich. But I have found a product that satisfied that bread itch, that I never abuse, and that is only 1 point. ****DrumRoll******* Thomas' Lite Multigrain English muffins. They are hearty, toasty, hot, and filling. I make sandwiches from those when I need a bread fix. The other product that's gotten me through is Joseph's OatBran/Whole Wheat wraps....also 1 point. They are round like a tortilla but thinner and more flexible, so they make a nice wrap for a sandwich. With your bread, what if you made a loaf or two, cut them into portions, labelled them with the point values, and froze the slices? You could take one out to defrost or toast. The fact is, what you CAN'T do is sit down with half a loaf of freshly baked bread, butter it thickly, and eat it at once and expect to lose weight. You have do something different. Please let me how you're doing with the bread issue, ok? Susie

dear susie - I am confessing this as a fair warning to anyone and everyone. I gave into old habits and cravings yesterday. a friend's DH was rushed to emergency yesterday with a hot belly and horrific pains. I drove her to the hospital and waited with her in er till 10pm, then drove us home. after many tests, they found he had acute appendicitis and had surgery. I was very stressed and I caved in to a snickers bar, cheetohs and diet coke. well, let me tell you that it will never happen again! I thought I would end up in er. I could feel bp increase and an allergic-type reaction to sugar and junk. I did some deep breathing and drank lots of water. from now on, only core and healthy foods for me! ok, I needed to share this. thanks for listening. ;D

dear susie, Thanks for the reply.... As for the bread, I would eat at least half a loaf in a day.... usualy as a sandwich, no butter/peanutbutter....just meat , cheese, and BREAD....I think it is a trigger food for me... and I have thought about trying "thomas.... english muffins...." but I am afraid I can't controll myself in eating just one at this point.... I have thought about freezing them and taking out only one at a time..... but the intervals may only be a few minutes apart, and that would not be good...perhapswith time I will feel like I would be able to controll this issue betterbut at this point I am scared..........Does this CRAVING THING get easier to controll??? I guess at this point I will just keep dreaming about BREAD of all things......hopefuly it will pass soon.... thanks for you help. wribbenn With BREAD in mind I can't be trusted!!!!!
