Terrific!
It's that kind of awareness we want to remember before every meal.
If all you do is take a breath before your first bite, and center yourself, and then make sure you don't put food in your mouth until you've chewed and swallowed the previous bite, you will be well on your way to Mindful Eating!

I love this "raisin" exercise. I normally don't even like raisins, but eating one slowly and deliberately this way is like a delicacy. I homeschool, so my kids are always eating with me...so I did this exercise with my 7 and 4 year old. My 7 year old was able to do it but my 4 year old accidentally ate hers and had to get another one.
The raisin is really pretty. I could see where the stem of the grape had been, I never noticed that before. I wonder what the white stuff is on the raisin, maybe it is starch. The smell of the raisin is very strong to me. It smells very much like it taste and it was hard to know if I was smelling it or tasting it. Then when I put it in my mouth, I could not longer smell it but it felt nice and wrinkly in my mouth. I enjoyed the texture, almost meaty. Then I bit it once, the flavor was sweet and made me want to bite it again, I waited and pushed it around my mouth. I bit it again, the flavor got intense again. I continued this maybe 7 bits until it was swallowed. SEVEN BITES for one raisin! I actually enjoyed it so much more than eating one of those little boxes of them. I was not hungry when I did this experiment though, so I can only imagine that this would have improved the flavor even more.
Thanks for this exercise, I will be incorporating it into my meals!

SusieQ and everyone else that has responded. Thank you. I sat here reading this thread while eating my breakfast of ff cottage cheese and cantaloupe, sitting at my desk. Not good. I did eat is slower. I will try the raisin experience tonight. I'm going to shop for pretty dishes and lovely linens and tell the family that we will eat in the dining room. Hubby and I have a goal of running a B&B - this will be good practice of setting a pretty table and enjoying the meal. Last night I reread the CORE "rules." I also asked my husband to read them. I then asked him not to do me any more favors like picking up the huge package of white flour pasta or white rice at Costco. I'm tired of yo-yo ing. With these Mindful Eating exercises I can conquer this evil demon. Thank you all

I've been trying to slow down on my eating, and found I'd getso bored with it, and rush through, just to finish. I never realized that I never took the time to taste my food.
Thank you so much for the help. After trying your raisen lesson, I'll be looking at food a whole new way now.
