This week's topic was about slowing down and staying in the present.
When do you focus too much on the future? When are you tripped up by past ideas of yourself and your lifestyle? What do you do to bring yourself back to the moment? Other thoughts?

To answer my own questions:
I let the past rule me by holding images of who I was, beliefs about how I eat, and fears about failing as I have so many times before.
Focusing on the future minimalizes my successes so far, and puts me in a mindset of seeing a number or a clothes size as the perfect measurement of my success. The future can also seem so far away, a dangerous thought that can lead me into wanting to give the heck up and go eat several packs of cookies.
I bring myself back only as a conscious struggle. Sometimes I create a bell-sound in my head that serves to bring me back to this moment in time.
It was a good and helpful topic for me because it gets at my thinking which can be more destructive OR more helpful than my actions.
Actions are, after all, a result of thoughts--right?

I focus too much on the future all the time. I'm hoping to be engaged soon, so I'm always thinking about a wedding and family. I know I shouldn't think about it so much because I have a good life with my bf now and should enjoy it!
Sometimes I find myself thinking about how I used to eat in high school and college. So carefree, eating what I wanted and when. Worrying a little and making some smart choices but not always.
I bring myself back to the present just by realizing I'm daydreaming!

I really liked this week's meeting topic ... I focus too much on the future when summer's coming, or an event like a holiday or party is in the future...and I should stop myself because if I focus on making as good choices as possible each day leading up to whatever event, then when the event arrives I will probably be happy with how I look! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) AND I will have been healthy each day leading up to it.... I was better at this during the late summer and vow to continue into the holiday season...I should try every day, not just because "something" is on the horizon. Now that I'm at Lifetime for 2 months or so, I think I am beginning to understand that it's OK to feel exactly as I did in losing mode, as far as good choices are concerned, that should never stop. And that I must never look back to what I was, or look too far ahead and think...can I continue to do this? I must focus on today.

This week's topic was about the messages that play in our heads that encourage or discourage us. Our leader asked us to list songs that will keep us positive! We were supposed to pick one to motivate us this week.
So let's hear your songs! What lyrics remind you that you can do this? Do you want to pick one (or a few) that can get you through the week?

I haven't had my meeting for the week yet but during my spinning class today they played the theme to "Rocky" and it was definitely motivating! I'll have to keep thinking about some others, I'll chime back in after my Friday meeting.

Also haven't had my meeting, but reading this post I immediately think of "I will Survive" Not really that the words are so accurate, but the title sure is. I'll also post more after my meeting. HIHO Katie

HAHA I love yours, Katie! Don't like the song but the title is appropriate for me right now too! Since I had a hint from Night what my meeting was going to be about, ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I was not surprised to hear music blasting as I entered my center last night. "I Am Woman" was on, lol. Remember that one. Then "Celebrate" came on...man I hate that song, just cuz it's overplayed at weddings, lol, not for the words but anyway... I really liked the meeting theme last night as a different way for them to teach us positive thinking. Of course the songs I wanted to pick for me at this time were..."I Can't Get No Satisfaction" and "Help!" LOL At least I can say my sense of humor is still with me.... ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) How about "Accentuate the Positive"...eliminate the negative...come on Cathy...hee hee ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I am trying!!

We talked about "I Will Survive" and "I am Woman" too.
Someone suggested "Another One Bites the Dust" which made me giggle and sing "and another pound gone and another pound gone..."
For myself, I like Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" "Gonna keep on tryin/ Till I reach the highest ground!"
The song that I chose though is the SOS band "Take Your Time"...
Baby, we can do it Take the time Do it right We can do it, baby!![](http://www.grsites.com/webgraphics/clipart/music/notes/clipart_music_notes_034.gif)

We had a fun meeting last night, and I agree it's a fun way to get the positive self-talk message across. Our leader had a bag with several strips of paper with a song title on each piece, she then had a list of situations that you might be struggling with and we were to call out the title of the songs that would correspond with the situation...some examples are: after a "bad week" facing the weigh in... after a good weigh in...Another one bites the dust, Happy days are here again after a bad week losing self control... red light fooods...Ain't she sweet,Help fighting daily food temptation... How it feels to come to a WW meeting...Let the good times roll, To motivate you... Getting to Goal Weight...I am woman Hear me roar, Celebrate, We are the Champions To get exercising...Jump, Obviously, I can't remember many of the songs called out but you get the idea...There were some really great songs and it was a fun exercise. The important thing is to quit the negative self talk. Life is too short and there are just too many other people ready to critize, without being negative to our selves. One of my favorite quotes is "what goes in, is what comes out" If we tell ourselves negative things we will be negative... if we eat junk, we feel like junk... We are worth the very best. HIHO Katie

Our meeting came up with songs like:
Anticipation Impossible Dream I Feel Pretty Bye Bye Bye
It was a fun meeting and a good way to emphasize the positive self-talk we all need to do more of. We did not have music blasting today though like some of you did!

Sounds like great songs and music themes were shared by all. "We Are the Champions" -- I had forgotten about that one!
This week's theme was less fun for me. All about good health and moderation. We got into a discussion about Splenda which is my personal crutch. Studies (paid for by the company of course) all show that it's safe, but I've seen some websites that allege that it isn't.
I really believe that, just like everything else, I shouldn't overuse Splenda. It just seems so damn easy when everything else I do is healthful! I need to try and wean myself away from it a bit.
How did everyone else's meetings go?

Our meeting focused more on 6 different "buzz" words or phrases in the diet media lately. Trans fatty acids, antioxidents, free radicals, (sorry, I can't remember the other 3) We talked how the WW website has such good information in the science "room". We also ran through the healthy 8"s and how to get them all in. I noticed a big poster showing pictures of foods and their points values. The caption on the poster was something like "use your points wisely" Not one mention of Core foods. The were several pictures of completely Core foods and others that can be easily made Core. I made a comment about the lack of Core check marks. Kind of frustrating. There are several members at the meeting I went to today that are following Core. So maybe they will also speak up more and help people to realize how do-able Core is. Have a great day Katie

We did the definition thing too ... what are free radicals, what are antioxidants and where can I get them, trans fats, I forget the rest too! But it was interesting and my leader handed out a brochure from WW (2003) that had all the answers. She also did a silly question and answer...Is chocolate bad for me? Should I limit alcohol?...stuff like that. I said NO! ;D
Night - I'm with you on Splenda, boy was I happy when it came out because Sweet 'n Low is gross, aspartame doesn't break down in the body & causes cancer and I wanted to cut down on sugar. Well, time to just limit "natural" sugar (? processed sugar cane I mean) because I think Splenda may be bad...it's "only" chlorine added to the sugar molecule (made by McNeil Pharma - hello anything pharma is usually a chemical)...so it can't be that good for us. I love that you can bake with it and love the taste, have no problem with aftertaste or reactions...but... will we ever get a straight answer. Good ol' sacchrine is still around, is that even safe....I would like to buy stevia which I know is natural and safe, but expensive, hard to find, how to cook with, very sweet...like I said how about avoiding sugar as much as I can.

Stevia and I don't get along, unfortunately. It leaves a bad taste or sensation in my mouth and the back of my throat...hard to describe--kind of like a slipperyness that I just don't like.
I have tried agave nectar, it's a vegan honey alternative and wonderfully sweet and natural. However, like honey it is 1 pt per teaspoon.
